Hi all, bought the above to try, has anyone used them, have you had success and whats best method to use them. im fishing in morning, and going to give them a try, i know my post is a bit late, but had to keep the good lady happy, so i can get a earlly morning start and a full days fishing in...lol

Have not look at the report, but can some one tell me if the carp was intended for british waters, or was it carp for the table. Im not a carp fisherman, have only had a few carp in my fishing years, common, mirror and ghost. I notice the carp for the table seems to have the colour of a common, but the scaling of a mirror. can this sort of carp be caught in our ponds and lakes. regards smac

Klienboet, do you own a TV, a Radio, a book on fishing or any book, a DVD, Video recorder. Do you read the news paper. I guess one of the above will be true. Now which ever one of the above you pay for, do you not want the best, to read the best report, or watch the best dvd, video. I work hard at my job, and im on a performance bonus. i put alot of time and effort into what i do, sometimes work in my own time to increase that. my point is, that, if you want the best you pay for the best. in this world we have a choice. these people work very hard at what they do, and should be rewarded accordingly. I have just purchased a whip myself, like you i have never used one either, this is the advice i was given. Telescopic whips are normally fished to hand. For example - a 5 meter whip can have a rig of just under 5 meters attached (so you can swing small fish to hand). Most whip fishing is for small fish on the drop involving small pole floats, small wagglers or a small float such as a stillwater blue insert float. I prefer a small insert waggler as they are easier to swing than a light pole float. The great thing with a 5m whip is that you can fish out at 9m in a meter of water or at 8m in two meters of water etc etc. The idea is to swing your rig out in a straight line in front of you keeping direct contact with the float. Modern carbon whips are mainly a mix of telescopic and put over top two three's or fully put over all the way through and normally come with a top two/three flick tip to be used as above and top two/three kits that can be elasticated incase of bonus fish and used with short rigs - long pole style.

Hi, just upgraded my pole recently and fitted it out myself. i decided what i was going to fish and used that as a guide, there are some very good people on here who can give you great advice. i called my local tackle shop, told him what pole i had, 1 top 3 section and 2 top 2 sections. I fitted mine for my main venue of silver fish with a number 4 elastic and then i went to a bush for number 8 elastic using number 4 connecter. this allows the elastic to run freely, also if you was to move up a grade elastic, your pole is ready for that, thats for my top 3 section. My top 2 section, i have a number 12 rating elastic, with the correct bush and connector for that. my second top 2 section i have a 18 elasctic and the the same bush and connectors for that rating. that covers my pole on its maximum rating, and kits me out for all venues. Cutting back the pole is not so bad, bit more scary than it looks, you just have to be patient, and cut back a little at a time to take you bush. I use a very sharp stanley knife, or one of them disspossible knives you can buy, i find it not to harsh on the pole. So start by cutting a little at a time, and keep trying the fit. i use the put over bush as there is slight more margin for error on the fit. The V roller you got is a great addition, but can i ask is that the type you intend to attach to a bank stick. If so can i recommend you buy a roller that has the four ajustable legs, you can get these from around £25.00 upwards. they are great for hard ground and easpecially canal banks where you cant ship your pole behind you due to lack of space. having that a couple of feet to your side, makes shipping back great and keeps it away from dog walkers and cyclists. A range of pole floats, 1/2gramm upwards and then your off and fishing. regards smac

The idea of this thread was to find out, would people change a hook every session, and if so, then was there something the manufactures could make that would degrade fairly quickly, for those who are happy to use new hooks each session, while i understand cost to some people, or prefference, the normal hooks we all buy at the moment would still be presant and available. Its just to give us anglers a choice, especially when we fish a lot of places with small perch and roach, and these fish can be prone to taking the hook deep down there throat. so rather than prod about sometimes, we could cut the line as a last resort, knowing that the hook would degrade fairly soon and give the fish a better chance of survival. surely this cant be a bad idea in thought, whether its actually possible i dont know. smac

Well i care about the welfare of fish, and i will continue to loose sleep over it, think what could i have done better. I guess some people are so good, maybe you should teach the rest of us, your methods, your hook sizes and what fish your targeting. it seems as though you have the answer, that im looking for, and guess thousands of anglers are looking for. smac

maybe it is superstition, or prefference, does it really matter. im looking at the protection of fish. thats why i started this thread, im happy to pay a few more pence to save a fish than not. some people like to save money and not fish. smac

I agree they may be less stronger, maybe a slightly bigger gauage. but what part of the hook is the strongest point, is it the bend. and would we all not buy more hooks better for the hook companies, its not always about cost, sometimes protection is a higher price. or should they not make them and give us anglers and option. we have an option on food, organic or not, we choose. its just a thought as i dont know much about hooks and the manufacturing process. smac

I do the same, my point to this thread, is: is there not something the manufacturers can use that degrades fairly quickly, but keeps the hook in good condition for a sessions fishing. its just a thought, as there seems to be so much doubt about, do we leave the hook in, try and get it out and risk damage to the fish. its something we all seem to have a problem with. smac

Just been reading another topic, on fish deep throating, and i was wondering how long you use the same hook for. is it one session two sessions or more. we all change our hooks through fishing sessions when need be. do you save all your hooks, or discard that hook later at home and use new hooks. i would be grateful for your replies. Its a fact of life, its the way fish feed, most fish suck food into there mouths. we have all done it, had something in our mouths, a pen top for example, chewing on it while podering over life, sunddenly we breath in and its at the back of your throat. if we sucked our food up everyday, we would choke more often than not. I still feel cutting the hook sometimes gives the fish the best chance. it may be in there, but may not stop it feeding, and we all hope in time it will shed the hook as the hook rusts away. regards smac

Hi i fished aldernham this summer, you can still fish on a day ticket, £4.00 a day, great perch and roach fishing on the wagler off the dam wall. The baliff is a bit funny, but when you get to know him his is a nice guy with some good advice, i know he is going to spend this winter pike fishing day and night. i offered him some sea baits to get him going. he will allow night fishing by permission only, so what i would do is go along, fish a couple of times on the damn wall, and then chat to him.. i get the impression from him, that many people come for a day and never go back, alot of this is due to fishing wrong methods, or expecting to much. i remeber the day, when i got there, had to fish the damn wall. he was on peg next to me, ledgereing, he told me to save my £4.00 as it did not matter how good a fisherman you are, you wont catch when they go off. i had 40 fish that session, only small roach and perch, was great sport and good days fishing. they had crayfish problem a while back, but that has been sorted out now. well they just vansished. anyway, get down, offer him his peg money, and you will be ok from what i have seen of him. best time to catch him, is early morning or evenings. just another point, they have about 6 pegs in woodland, the rest is the damn wall, in front of the woodland 2 pegs is a nice island, and plenty of space to get a bivvy up or for 2 people to fish couple of rods each, let me know how you get on. regards smac

you find that funny newt, i dont have the pics, but have the better story, it was a truck just like that. It was clamped, all hell broke loose. things calmed down when the driver called his boss to say he been clamped, and was being charged over 300 pounds because they had called for the tow truck. anyway, his boss said he was on his way with payment, so they sat in there truck, the clampers sat in there van..5 hours later a bigger lorry turned up, and lifted the smaller truck onto the back of the bigger truck, the police were there and said there is nothing they could do about it, as long as the clamp was returned undamaged. that was one way round it. smac

roll on the cooler weather to get rid of the buzzer wasps., went early fishing other morning, to get baited up, before dawn. set up my light so i could see what i was doing, to set up my rods while i waited for daylight. i was not plagued by moths lol, but wasps buzzing about my light. and god i hate them. dont know why god created such a creature, they are not part of food chain, nothing wants to eat them, they dont buzz about flowers pollonating. what do they do, or what are they here for, except to hang around bins and my night light lol. smac
