  1. In hindsight, maybe i should have posted the above in the Politics of envy post ? Working in the front line as i do, i see a very bleak future indeed.
  2. Your right there Ken, the banks have alot to answer for in my opinion. The amount of our money that has been ploughed into them works out at £5500 per family !!!! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbys...per-family.html Then there's the bonuses that are being paid to those that run these banks. More than 5000 bankers will earn at least £1million this year ! http://www.citywire.co.uk/personal/-/news/....aspx?ID=371146 Smacks of self-interest and greed and i have just been told that i will not be getting my annual pay rise next year ! Sorry rant over. I need to go fishing.
  3. I admire Prof David Nutt et al who have stood by their guns and not towed the line, shows the ignorance of the current government, and this in light of what has happened to past advisors that have criticized them ! On the subject of cannabis, which i may add, i smoked for at least 25 years ( stopped now i also may add ) It has had no debtrmental effects on me and has in fact inspired me to do things that i would probably would never have done and meet some excellent people on the way too. On the other hand there is a dangerous new home grown strain of Skunk that has been engineered to have a very high THC content and this is now the perfered choose of the younger generation of users and is more readlly available that resin. There is definetly a conection between this new type of cannabis and mental health problems (Psychotic episodes ). I have first hand day to day experiences of this as a professional working as part of the Community Mental Health Team.
  4. Sorry Chris should have checked C and P forum first really ! A+
  5. I have just been sent this link - http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/pollutionfinesPollution fines Some of you may wish to add your names to it ?
  6. Cracking fish and what a way to catch it. Thanks for sharing with us
  7. One could argue that 15lb line, lead core, 4oz lead, size 4 hook and and 18mm boilie does the trick ! But to catch one by design one needs to be able to fish when the combination of weather, light and river conditions are just right. Not easy for the minority of us with jobs and families etc. Also you need a very good knowledge of the river your targeting. Once a day i walk my dog along a river near me and never see a sign of any Roach but the other evening i saw a dozen in about a foot of water, the biggest one was i guess around 3lb. Went and got my rod and on the first cast i had a 1lb 8oz Roach followed on the next cast by a 2lb 4oz one, after that the Chub moved in and i gave up. Right place at the right time i guess ? Never seen the Roach again dispite looking everday.
  8. Thanks for the invite Tony but due to childcare issues i can only fish weekdays. Hope you have a good day, on what is a lovely venue. Had a 15oz dace on the first day last year, so gutted i miss this year.
  9. London Anglers Association have a day ticket stretch of the Avon near Sailsbury, well worth a trip and not too far from you. Britford http://www.londonanglers.net/Y-Fishery%20I...M%20BRIDGE.html
  10. Looks like to fishing gods where watching you that day. Well done, a day to remember and thanks for sharing. Has inspired me to target some Perch this year. Bring it on !
  11. Missed the opening day at Timsbury this Year, engine on my car blown !!!! Fished the last few years and had some good fishing. Any of you guys fished it ? How did you get on ?
  12. Cheers for that info Steve, good to know.
  13. I swim in my local river ( river Meon ) throughout the warmer months, beats swimming in the sea any day.
  14. As anglers should we be concern about Fluoride ? There has been a lot in the local press about Fluoride being introduced into the water supply in the Southampton area. One thing that i have not heard debated, is what effect will this have the rivers, if any ?
  15. Woke up to a very mild, wet and windy Monday morning, sounds like the idea conditions for a spot of fishing after the cold snap ! But did i go ? did i b***ox, two things put me off, the wind, have you tried trotting with braid ? and the hundreds of tons of salt being washed into the river. Was i right not to go ? Today would have been a better prospect i think, no wind and the salt washed through. Did anyone else go out on the rivers on Monday ?
  16. Many happy returns my fellow capricorns ! Chris Plumb and Andrew PI. Got to agree with you about the bathroom wellyphant, good advice. It now looks like the weather is easing up abit over the weekend, so i feel abit more confident. With regards LIF Modelcitizen, get down there and give it a go. It's a lovely fishery and a great day out. I'm off to sort my tackle out now, will let you know how i get on. Thanks chaps.
  17. Dont get to go fishing as much as i use too ! Two young children and a big mortgage put an end to my over night once a week ( sitting behind Three rods ) Now i like nothing better than a bit of trotting with my pin. It's my brithday next week and i always book a days annual leave to treat myself to a days fishing. Usually either going to The Lower Itchen Fishery, The Royality or on the Avon at Britford. I'm not that confident of my prospect, with regards this weather ? Is it worth still giving it a go ? or do i get in the girlfriends good books and spend the day finishing the bathroom, i started Two years ago ? Is this cold snap due to stay with us for next week ? Oh and i am thinking about giving Britford a bash !
  18. Voted Agree with Janet, use to like looking that the photo's, when stuck in my office. Will be missed on here.
  19. While having my rice crispy's for breakfast one morning, back in 77. I notice an offer for a 5"ft solid fibreglass rod, a little basic reel and some line, a plastic red and white perch float and some hooks to nylon. All i had to do was collect 3 token and sent of a cheque for £2.50 P & P. I dont know why i did this, as no one i knew fished at the time. I use to cycle on my old Tomahawk the 4 miles to the river Wallington, catching mostly beautiful golden Rudd. If i was not fishing, then i was cleaning or sorting my tackle, i even started to read fishing books having ever been near a book before. I have some excellent memories of times spent on the bank in all weathers, especially those long summer evenings and misty dawns. I remember when i snapped that rod in the garage door, boy did i cry! After getting a proper fishing rod for christmas that year and a Michell 206, i progressed to fishing Peterfield lake. Here i made friends with an much older lad, who had a pair of Northwestern, 410's, and a couple of herons. I use to spend every friday evening up there, learning and watching this lad cast great balls of free lined trout pellets paste, the monster he caught ( probably about 5lb ). I also had the pleasure of spending my summer holidays at my nans, who lived in fordingbridge and working in the pub that was right next to the bridge over the Avon. This pub ( forgotten the name ) was always full of fisherman and they use to take me out with them on the Avon. Still think about those times and the the people i meet ( i'm sure there was more characters around in those days ) It seems to me that the older you get, the more you remember about things you did as a kid, or it might be that i now have young children of my own !
  20. Been using 4lb Crystal fireline on my CP for a while now and never had a problem.
  21. Hi Anderoo Thanks for sharing your day with us, i think you captured the essence of trotting what looks like a wonderful little river.
  22. Hi Mike T Thanks for sharing that with us, looking forwards to doing a bit of trotting myself next Monday on the Itchen. 37 years of angling and still getting excited !
  23. Know the feeling Anderoo, it's happened to me on my local gravelpit unfortunately, as i use to love fishing there and have been on and off for nearly 30 years ( carp fishing ). Now given up carp fishing as disillusioned with the unaducated, underdeveloped and mostly unaware new breed of carp angler now on the scene. Sorry to say it but i think it reflexes society in general now adays. Started going back to my roots and now enjoy nothing better than trotting a float down one of the fabulous chalk streams we have down south.
  24. I've gone back to my roots, from doing 24hrs aweek sitting behind 3 rods, to doing the old couple of hours with the stick float and pin ( this was due to being a dad ). Cant believe how much fun this can be, it's like starting fishing again. Best fish of 06-07 season was a 35lb common. best fish of 07-08 season, a 10oz Dace. Which fish do you think put the biggest smile on my face ? Given up my carp ticket, joined LAA and come the 16th i will be running my stick down at Britford. Cant wait for the glorious 16th, have'nt been so excitied since i was a young nipper.
  25. Looks like a good day was had by all, on what is an excellent fishery. One question, did you have access to the whole fishery ?
