  1. Hi mike I fished Soak alot in the late 70's early 80's and practically lived there. Fishing at least 48 hours aweek, 52 weeks a year and only caught 3 fish ! i must have been doing something wrong i hear you saying but i knew everyone who where fishing there at the time and visited the pond daily. The fishing was hard and blanking was a very common occurence. The best chance of a fish then, was the first couple weeks of the season, fishing on the top. Still it was a beauitful pond and i have some very pleasent memories of times spent there. I know that nearly all of the oringinal stock have now died and i dont know about what has been restocked but everytime you fish you learn something about the water. My advice would be to fish number 1 swim ( if its still called that ?) with single bait and a small PVA bag of crumb to the back of the swim. RIP- lionel, squarebum and all the other lovely fish that use to grace Soak. and of course Rick Jones who made the fishery such a magical place.
  2. i brought myself a car i just use for fishing, as i have a young family and the girlfriend needs our family car (toyota surf, an excellent fishing wagon in its self) It's a n reg Skoda Felicla estate and has 175000 on the clock. You can completely take the back seats out and fit loads of tackle in it. Just past its mot, needing just a exhaust rubber £3:76. Then theres the bonus of it not being nicked or sratched !!!
  3. My Normark feeder rod only has about 2" of orange on the tip and i'm having trouble seeing it. Any idea's what i can do or put on it to make it more visable ?
  4. I'm having trouble seeing the tip on my Normark feeder rod, as the tips have only about 2inches of orange on them. Anyone know what can do to improve this ?
  5. That other Angler was me Chris, believe we had a brief chat. Glad you had a good day on what is an excellent fishery. I alway try to fish it on a Monday (it's a good feeling sitting in the rush hour traffic into Southampton knowing everyone else is of to work and i'm on the river for the day ) Normally have the place to myself. Wandered down from the end of the coarse fishing section, trotting double red maggot for Garyling but without success. Changed over to link ledgered bread flake and had Six Chub from 3lb 5oz to 4lb 14oz (pb) so well please with the day. All the fish came from the lower pike pool. Do you know or does anyone else know what the biggest club from the venue is ?
  6. Let me girlfriends sister use my computer and now when i go from one web page to another, the page comes up in the middle of the screen about 3inches by 6" and i have to keep using the maximize feature, which is a pain. How do i get it back to normal, ie pages loading full size ? Got windows xp.
  7. After any info on The Testwood fishery near Southampton. John Wilson fished it a couple of times on his program and there is an article in this months Total Coarse Fishing where Bob James is fishing for Roach. Done the usual searches on Google etc and came up with phone number which never gets answer when i call.
  8. Oh mike so glad you have brought this out into the open where we can all help one another with this infliction/addiction. I to brought myself a Sheffield a couple months ago and am suffering the same symptoms, to help with sore finger i suggest a fabric plaster and depending where you live a trip to the following- Timburys manor, The Royality, Lower itchen fishery. it's given me a whole new meaning to my fishing, having spent hours and hours behind 3 shimano long casts. I recommend if anyones thinking about getting a centrepin go for it, its like when you first started fishing as a kid all over again. PS how do i post without all the 1st post above ?
  9. Cheers for that slap but i'ved done a search on google for Drennan after sales and cant seem to find it. you dont happen to have it do you ?
  10. Had an excellent day on the itchen on monday and was trotting a stretch that was around 9ft and at the end of the swim it went up to about 2ft with lots of weed. Always got snagged up in the weed but with abit of side strain the hook would pull clear. However i gave the rod a one armed pull upwards and it snapped at the joint between the 1st and 2nd section. The rod was a Drennen im8 super stick ( it was an excellent rod and i have had fish up to 6lb on it ok ) with a centrepin and 3lb maxima straight through. Was it me or the rod ? do i look for a replacement middle section if that is possible ? do i try and buy another im8 ? or do i need a more beefy rod for trotting ? and what rod would you recommend ? The last fish i caught on it was this ( see attachment ) is it a sea trout ?
