  1. Very good....made me chuckle that one!
  2. Paint the last 12" of the tip white and you'll never squint again - even in low light levels.
  3. hey Wilko, I fish the Ouse regularly - If it's Pike and Chub you are after then you should do alright. There have recently been pike to 25lbs taken on the stretch above the tidal limit at barcombe. This stretch runs from the mills upstream past the Anchor and as far as Isfield. You can get a day ticket from the farmhouse or from Percys tackleshop in Lewes high street....only problem is you only have limited access with the ticket! You can buy a winter season permit for the ouse angling preservation society from Percys for £30 which is a better bet if you're going to make a few trip and gives you pretty much unlimited access to the river between lewes and newick ( about 8-9 miles of it!!) Percys have all the maps showing access points and carparks etc... v. useful!! Below the weir is tidal and there have been quite a few double figure pike taken there this season, there are also some lovely roach and chub to be found here. Nice sea-trout in summer too! Further upstream past haywards-heath is where the some good chub and barbel fishing can be found, the river is alot narrower and shallow up here. No decent pike. You need a permit for the haywards heath and district angling society which can be purchased from Sporting Chance tackle shop in haywards heath. Good luck - let us know how you get on! Maybe see you on the bank! Sam.
  4. The fishing in Holland looks to be pretty good, especially if you like chucking lures about ( like I do!). Does anyone know if a license is required or can anyone just turn up and fish the rivers and canals?? Anyone know of any particulary good areas that would be suitable for a Brit looking to try their luck for an Asp or two?? Maybe theres some info on the net?? Many thanks.
  5. Great work lads! I live in Brighton and used to fish there as a lad in my sea-angling days. It was always a mess even back then, great to see you all taking the bull by the horns. Lets hope your good-will spreads and catches on!
  6. Hello fellow fishers, I am looking for a syndicated carp lake to fish in the sussex area with a good head of fish from the 20lb bracket and upwards. Pleasant surroundings would be a bonus. Has anyone got any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
  7. Wow!! The stuff of dreams! Great reading there Vagabonds. Fishing the Amazon is on my hit list for the future - would love to go there! I went to India and Australia for similar adventures this year myself, choosing where to go next year is turning out to be quite a dilema! So many countries and species to choose from!! Looking forward to the second installment! Great report!
  8. I have a great spinning rod - 6 piece - from Shimano. Comes in a hard carry tube, straps to rucksack or bike no worries. I bought it to take travelling in India and Oz. Never let me down - caught some nice big barramundi and mahseer on it! Shimano Exage STC 6 piece spin rod. £45 from tackleshop.co.uk. Various models to suit different lure sizes. Top rod.
  9. Nigel is in the wrong for sure on this one but the thing that really gets my goat is this: When the whole situation came to light some months back and he was caught transporting the live fish he gave a press release that stated this " I did not intend to use the fish as live baits , I intended to kill them before commencing fishing to ensure I was using the freshest deadbaits possible".......... How stupid does he think we all are? Thats a ludicrous suggestion! It was obvious his intention was to use the baits live otherwise he would not have gone to such effort to conceal them and get them to Ireland alive and well!! What really annoys me the most is that even though he was caught red-handed he still did not have it within himself to put his hands up and admit the truth. To get caught and continue to try and lie ones way out of it in the face of the public and britains anglers is really quite sad. He's digging a hole he may have some trouble getting out of and is going to have difficulty getting back the respect he probably should'nt have had in the first place!
  10. Hi Charles, I have watched both episodes now and thoroughly enjoyed them. You really have captured the essence of what fishing is all about. I too have made the pilgrimage to the Cauvery in search of mahseer and could really relate to all that was said, the imagery brought back many memories from my own trip. It's as much about the culture as the quarry when on an overseas fishing adventure and I have personally found that as a travelling angler you are never short of company or something to do! Travelling and fishing go together so well I never leave home without a rod strapped to my rucksack, it really enriches the travelling experience. I don't think I could fault the programmes in any way as there is a perfect mix of content ensuring entertainment for everyone on a sunday evening...especially us fisherfolk! It really is great to see angling back on the beeb after all these years and as far as comparisons to 'A passion for angling' go, I reckon they are unjustified as your series is in an entirely different league all of it's own. Keep up the good work and heres hoping they sign you up for some more adventures in the future! Tight lines, Sam.
