  1. Have you been watching me? The only time i ever go on a golf corse is at night with a torch, Oh and a bucket to put me lubs in.
  2. I have just payed £66.50 so i can go coarse fishing & do a bit of Salmon fishing in the back end and i need to fork out another twenty odd pounds if i want to use more than two rods when carp fishing this summer. I have not had my licence checked in the last 10 years and from reading the news today the average fine for not having a licence is only about £100. now if i have got my maths right there's quite a saving going on in my head.
  3. Looks more like a Salmon to me!

    Barbel fishing

Its a Proper river, should'nt take to long to catch a few barbel on there.
  5. The rod merely acts as a shock absorber and does not lessen the strain at all. yes the clutch can be set to slip at say 3lb of pressure but then there would be little point in fishing with 10lb line. If you tighten the clutch to slip at 9lb of pressure then the extra strain is taken on the bailarm and gears ,well at least thats the way i see it but feel free to shoot me down if i'm wrong.
  6. Bought my first pin 12 months ago an avanta pro & love it to bits only down side it makes me want to go fishing even more.
  7. Was he good? Was he bad? No just another gobs..t politician!
  8. I like Okuma reels a lot although I have not had hold of the reel in question I would be a little wary of putting 10lb line on a match reel as they're not usually built for that much strain.
  9. If you want to keep it simple I've been getting good results for carp and bream just using scalded pellets.

    Maggots

I like to keep them in the fridge but I do find permission to do so relies on how long they were in there last time & if the lid was on right. O & as said don't let them sweat lots of dry powder (ground bait, saw dust, flour even curry powder).
  11. This week its tench on the method, Last week it was sea trout on the fly, next week.... well the list gose on & on. I just love fishing.

    Wormery

I find Brandlings & Dedrabena are quite easy to rear in a wormery all you need is a big tub with a lid (dust bin) put holes in the bottom for drainage.Put a few inches of moist not wet old compost & some worms in the bottom & keep adding all your veg. kitchen waste and some shreaded news paper to stop it getting to wet. As it grows you should find you can start to farm off the worms. But i have allways found lob worms very hard to keep or breed in a wormery. Best way for lobs is a head torch, a warm wet night short grass & fast hands, but fish are easier to catch than lobs! hope this helps and best of luck.
  13. But even better with photos 10/10
  14. I have a mate who takes a machette on our night fishing trips he says its to clear a space for his bivy. As a kid I liked to do daft things like prodding wasp nets with sticks and I have wondered what might happen if I prodded his bivy in the night with a stick. Think I will find a very long stick first.
  15. As an angler who fishes for salmon & sea trout through the summer and chub & barbel in the winter on the Ribble. I have yet to find a bait or lure chub will not take, opportunistic i think is the word & i would not like to say what their diet mainly consist of. Different in different waters i would guess. What i would say is they learn quick and i would take anyone on with a meps and a roving approch if they were sat on their box educating them even if they had a keep net. Well perhaps not in the deeps of winter when they're shoaled up but certainly in the summer when they're all over the place and chasing fry. When you stalk chub with light lines and have a hard time of it & then wade in the middle of the clear river with a pike bung 15lb line a bright red shrimp intended for the salmon & catch a good chub first cast they can make you think a bit but dont give up on lures for chub just keep moving.
  16. A reel and eyes spaces age stuff should be band.
  17. 1500lb of castle loch bream with fish over the scotish record liked 10mm meaty marines fished on the method.

    Best fish

Last summer i got an invite to fish with a friend on an unfished 4 acre lake in the garden of a friend of a friend (some garden). We had a good day on the pole catching about 30lb each of mostly silver fish but while we where fishing we noticed some bigger carp showing and a decision was made to go back a couple of weeks later with some carp gear. About half way throw the day i was pleasantly beating my mate 2 carp around the 10lb mark - 0 (very competitive) when he got a good run and after a real scrap i netted a 27.5lb cat for him. (Well I was real pleased for him!) As he spent the next half an hour telling me how we didn't now there was cats in the lake and this was the frozen north of England and how we should send a photo to the press. I thought was never going to shut up when I got a run on one of my rods and after the scrap of a life time I landed a cat that we could only estimate to be 40lb+ as it bottom out the scales. Funny there was no more talk of sending photos to the press. But I think this is defiantly my best fish to date if not only for the timing but I'd still like to catch a 2lb 1oz rudd.
  19. I treated my self to a pair of these rods two years ago and i use them week in week out. Yes the weight & balance is not great at first if your used to lighter float rods. But these are the best barbel i have ever used and the only rod i would want in my hands when playing a good barbel or and fishing in a winter river. I also used them for method fishing for large bream(1000lb in 8hours), worming for salmon and sea trout (15lb)& light carping (20lb).
