  1. the reason is simple its called "carp" carp tend to dominate any lake canal or river they are in. my own club decided for a change they dig a new lake but only roach bream tench and crucian was allowed and what happened ? Bream became the dominate species ! increaseing in size to over 4lbs in weight within 3 years . So there decision actually backfired on them big time. crucians and tench and roach are still small the club reckons that it be many years before the other species actually get to decent sizes. They ended with another problem (not of there makeing) the lake is fed by drains from crops and ditches and what has happened thousands of perch have got in. so far they are very small but i have a feeling these perch will pray on smaller fish (probably anything that moves basically ) which come from the ditches and drains. So if they did not put anything in the lake it would still have a thousand perch in the lake. I have a feeling they will net the perch out at some point filter what comes into the lake (ie underground streams) sell off the perch so another club.
  2. i am looking for a buddy to mainly night fish/day fish for carp . i am over 50 Have a bivvy but dont have a car but willing to pay for the petrol . member of two clubs both dont allow night fishing ! can you help ? xanadau96@yahoo.co.uk
  3. i live near brentwood do we have any forum members who live nearby or within 10 miles
  4. for the last 3 months or so i have been useing bread balls of around 18mm haired. with a lot of success. reckon at least 50 carp this year so far been on haired bread. PB so far is 15lbs on bread. and tench 4lbs there are of course dangers with bread. ducks have the habit of chaseing the bread. but as long as the water yu fishing in is over 2 ft this should not be a problem. the other problem is the amount of runs yu get but the hook fails to hit the fish. reckon for every 3 runs yu get one fish. on a good day the amount of runs can be over 20 . these are usually short runs of a couple of feet. then the bait is dropped by the fish. the other problem is of silver fish knawing at the bait until it becomes a small hard piece of bread. the reason a tend to squeeze the bread into a ball is to avoid the small fish takeing much of the bait. on average a bread ball will last over an hour in the water... sometimes longer .. it depends on the time of year. winter is prob the best time of year to use bread in this way.
  5. to be honest i dont support this method. a number of reasons 1 should not be done where there are birds present,as likely to tangle on tackle 2 it look unsightly.(it is used in france when chucking out well over 100 metres) 3 a number of fisheries ban it anyway. 4 it is debateable whether it actually works better than haveing the line as low as possible, and really should only be used when fishing with a bubble float or useing a surface bait like bread.
  6. i use a size 8 commercial hair for bread pellets. or a size 10 kamasan if i am makeing my own for pellets. i find bread pellet balls work very well ! but size can be aproblem i am useing one around 22mm think a little too big as get many runs compared with successful hookups. maybe a smaller size say 16/ 18mm would be better. i have tried bread now on method for 3 months and have caught approx 40 plus carp up to 14lbs and the wife caught 20 plus in three weeks includeing 2 large tench. i am learning all the time
  7. a lot of lakes in britain have suffered from lack of rain esp ones not stream fed. our lake in ockendon essex. was only 18 inches deep in the middle since september its been a complete transformation. that rain has filled it too safe levels and still filling it. without this rain ! i shudder to think how the carp would survive the winter. we lost over 80 big carp ! Still take another 3 months of what we been getting to get back to what it was 3 years ago... with the mild winter so far i would think normal carp baits be the order of the day. hey why not try legered bread ball or meat.. the weather here in uk will change to winter ,soon, so why not give it a go.
  8. i have a three pod from geologic with the hangers and bag it was £24 plus the £9 each for the alarms not bad ! take a drive to decathlon sports...all in for £51
  9. do yu live with in 6 miles or so of romford then give me a IM . i am looking around the area for lakes to fish and details on local clubs thanks LChrs608@aol.co.uk
  10. i agree with rob find the fish ! in our lake its easy as its only 40 or so feet wide and one and a half acre long the fish tend to go near the trees. to feed. i use bread or pellets on method.. as long as its mild the fish feed. we fished thursday and did well.. 3 carp to 8lbs we off sunday to ockendon lake. one thing not tried is to bait up the area with ground bait couple of days before fishing. one reason i not done this was because i tend to move my bait a lot. recasting every 15 to 20 minute with two rods and change the bait regular too. weird baits are not a good idea.. ie banana in winter. bread is always a good staple bait. yu always catch something. on it,. but as a summer bait beware unless fishing on the surface..
  11. i have used piece of banana threaded on to hook works but it goes quickly, as soon as fish grabs it. but did catch 8 small carp on a pole useing that bait. in one session. never tried it since now use bread on method and haired sometimes
  12. well that should get people thinking. i have just bought a okuma opi drag baitrunner cost £20 this adds to my 2 geologic baitrunners . all three have only one ball bearing. so not exactly the best around.. It would be interesting how bad /good the okuma is. I have been happy with the geologic had them 2 months and caught 2 10lbs mirrors. and a dozen 7lbs. with no problems. as with the okuma they are made in china. quite robust construction. i needed to replace my 3 old argos reels that are not baitrunners and are feeling the strain on keep changeing the drag in other words they have had it....... I must admit i was tempted to buy 2 shamino s but at £110 it a lot of money. Was i riight i buying the okuma. hopefully it was and replace the other old argos reel very soon.. okuma does seem to have a huge range i just wonder if there is much difference in the models at the bottom end of market.. ie up to £40. what does the forum think
  13. luncheon meat works the problem it attracts anything that swims in the lake. and find small stuff biteing at it. you might try a larger 20mm piece.. ok for float. but waste of time ledgering for carp. i started on luncheon meat but found it almost dissapeared before i managed to strike. maybe good in the winter when less tiddlers are feeding.
  14. well not a lot in my opinion they tend to drag there heels. very keen to save fish shame they dont seem to put them back in lakes that have lost fish. so where are these going too "fish mongers " perhaps. maybe you know where ?? cos i dont.. still waiting for the last 2 months a return to my email i sent them ! typical govt bodges in my view
  15. i am looking for 2/3 good quality second hand baitrunners. even okuma considered. but the more expensive models.. would prefer shamino or diawa fox. etc... flashgordonandwendy@yahoo.co.uk
