Hi i have the Korum Neoteric quiver twin tip, 1.75lb top section Mine is very much like the 3g series and i can defo say they are a brilliant rod The quiver model is superb and the 1.75lb top allows me to carp fish, i have casted 2oz with PVA bag and i can get 70 yds approx which is good for a light rod. If you wait there are new versions of the 3G about to arrive in the shops so you may pick the outgoing models cheaper. My Neoteric was £104 instead of £120 Well worth a look

Hi Lastcast, i used to live in Ipswich and fished most of the local waters as a member of Gaps and other clubs You could try the river at Needham Market ( day ticket i think ) but there are some nice chub in there at the lakes area of the river where they have the picnic area. The Gipping has some large carp but the river condition is poor and its a hard river to fish unless its changed alot in the last 3 years. If you want a good club join Purdis fishig club or Kingfisher in Nacton ( if you can get in ) they are by far the best places in Ipswich to fish by a long stretch. Hope this helps, nothing to add about the Stour but as you are Ipswich i thought this would be useful.

The hair conditioner and water is the way to go ( not fairy liquid or other washing up liquids as the chemicals will damage the laccy over time, same reason why you shouldnt wash your car with washing up liquids as it damages the lacquer ) I used to use in my pole days a small pump sqeeze bottle they sell them in Boots etc look in the travel section. i used to pull the laccy out and spray the stuff on it and then let the laccy back into the top section. Never had a break or an issue with sticking

Hi its interesting some of the comments and i can relate to many of them What i find surprising is the many comments about i went carp fishing i caught a bream, etc etc To me fishing is fishing i go with the plan to catch fish regardless of species and that makes it rewarding. I am very worried when carp anglers complain they have hooked a bream and treat it as a second class fish compared to carp ( granted i also prefer carp to bream ) I think most anglers who started before the carp revolution have delight in what ever they hook from silverfish to specimen. Please note i am not knocking carpers as i too have and will stick a rod out and see if i can catch a decent fish. Main pet hate i guess is waiting for the weekend looking closely at the weather reports only to find it chucking it down all weekend Tight Lines

I thought this would be useful to know about. Having returned to the fishing scene after 3 year break and starting again with new gear i found myself with a dillema I purchased a 3 piece match rod for my float work and then a 2 piece 12ft Korum quiver tip for feeder and light to medium carping. Now here lies the problem which the Korum has solved, i wanted a rod holdall that was not the typical carping holdall with made up rod intentions. I wanted a traditional holdall that would cater for short and long rods i.e at least 1.9m long Most i found were too bulky or too short or the carp holdalls that had huge reel puches and resembled a pair of German military trousers ! I had seen the Korum Allrounder holdall in the Korum book and on the web but no mention of its length ( crazy why or why doesnt it tell you that its 1.9m long ) Anyway i ordered one and its superb and solves my multi purpose needs Hi quality construction, will take two 2.5" dia rod tubes and three rods on the other side with a protective flap to keep them from getting scratched etc. There is also an internal quiver tip pocket , an external bank stick pocket and a large brolley pocket. The handle is perfectly positioned and balanced ( many holdalls are not ) and there is the extra shoulder strap. Reinforced holdall bottom is also a good feature. I am very delighted and thank goodness Korum thought this one through. Incidently i did see the Preston, Shimano etc pole holdalls ( some rigid ) and they were very bulky and not as practical for the 5 rod max pleasure angler ( bag max ) Hope this helps others if considering, supplied online from the excellent Quaker Fishing (Codfather ) as stocks are hard to find at the moment. Yes you may be right Polaris and sliding rigs are not the easiest things to start with I still think a good starting point is the waggler rod, learn from there

I was recently in the same situation, do what i am doing get a decent mid priced float rod approx £40, Daiwa, Shimano, ABU Esprit , Maver Abyss etc Then get a twin top rod with quiver tip for feeder fishing and then use the avon top for light carp work with bite alarm Basically two rods and you can fish many methods And you can fish the bottom with a float but you are restricted to distance you can cast and if its really deep use a slider float or polaris float for depths greater than 12 ft approx Plenty of good gear you can go for and alot can be caught on the humble float rod which is sadly hardly used by the growing numbers of new anglers in favour of beep beep rods !

Sorry but i know we all start from scratch but you should be better prepared in my opinion for your first outing. The internet has a ton of reading matter on how to fish The most important thing not mentioned is HOW DO I UNHOOK A FISH using a disgorger and how to handle and return fish safetly If you are in doubt about depths, what a swim is what bait etc then you need to take more advice and make sure you have 1. your licence ( if older than 12 ) 2. basic water knowledge and precautions 3. basic tackle knowledge, the what bait will come from trial and error as will fishing over or under depth, most important thing from my memories is make sure you can land and un hook the fish with care. Alot of shops sell gear and fail to consider what new anglers with little skill and cause damage to healthy fish. Sorry to get on soap box but it had to be said from someone ! My god i sound like on of those old farts from Maggotdrowners complaining

Hi sorry didnt really suggest i would only ever fish one style, my plan is to return gradually to the hobby and i cannot decide to start back with carp rods, or maybe a float rod or a feeder rod, I wish to buy just one all round set up so if i decide that returning to fishing was a mistake i havnt purchased a heap of gear. My ideal would be one decent rod capable of float work, feeder work and medium carp fishing with a bite alarm i would get one small to medium sized reel and have 4lb line and 8lb lines loaded and end tackle to suit So my problem is which allround rod to buy or should i go for low cost secondhand and a carp rod, float rod etc etc I plan a budget of all in for £200 tops

Having given up fishing for nearly 3 years i am planning a return I cannot decide to go basic float waggler rod fishing, feeder rod fishing or carp fishing I am not into match fishing so will not go back to the pole style of fishing Although i like float fishing the typical silver fish catch is normally small in size Carp fishing was fun when you actually caught one but slow going in between Any help or advice, what method should i start back with ?

Hi i have recently moved to the Mildenhall area of Suffolk, used to fish a couple of years ago in the Colchester / Ipswich area Looking for good lake pleasure fishing ( club preferred ) I am not into pole, or match fishing and defo not into bivvy up all night carp fishing Any ideas Somewhere where i can turn up at the weekend find a decent swim and have a few hours relaxed fishing. I have spoken to the local shop in Bury and they have suggested the Bury St Edmunds club Not much of a river guy so lakes is my preference Any help much appreciated Thanks
