  1. England youth international fly fisherman Mark Harrison from Willenhall was top rod at Gailey last week catching 14 fish up to 5lb. 17 year old Mark fished from a boat catching his superb bag of fish all returned, on a mixture of flies. Buzzer patterns accounted for a good percentage of the fish caught last week including Shipmans when the trout where feeing on the top, and Goldhead buzzers when fish where deeper. Gailey regular Peter Davies had a purple 4 hour session on Friday evening catching 12 trout averaging 2lb all on orange Shipmans from a drifting boat down the middle of the 35 acre reservoir. Gailey was stocked again last Wednesday, with high quality full finned trout averaging 4 1/2 lb. Tony Nunn from Gailey said after the initial stocking of fish averaging 2lb, we will be stocking larger fish up to 6lb to spice things up at the Cannock reservoir. Full day sporting ticket costs only £17 with boats from £5. Gailey trout fishery, near Cannock. 01785 715848 visit Gailey’s website for full details about fishing. www.gaileytrout.co.uk
  2. Gailey Trout Fishery Cannock, Staffordshire Trout fishermen are from Gloucester, Liverpool, Nottingham have visited the improving 35 acre trout fishery over the past week, feedback from visitors has been really positive about the size and quality of the fish caught. Black and red buzzers have done the business again for many anglers, including John Goodwin from Cannock who fished from the bank and had 10 trout on red buzzers under a brown shipmans during a 4 hour morning session Fishing throughout the week has been excellent with the early spring sunshine and gentle breeze, but the cold wind on Saturday and Sunday made fishing more difficult and knocked the weekly catch rate down from over 4.4 fish to 2.75 fish per angler, but with a large stocking of trout ready for the Easter holiday, should see Gailey fish it’s head off. 5. Great news for serious Pike Fisherman one of the UK's most improved Trout Fisheries throws opens it's gates open to Pike fishermen from Monday 1st of October. Gailey Trout Fishery was taken over in January this year by 10 members who set about improving facilities at the 35 acre water, new lodge, new boats, new engines, new fishing platforms are just a few of the investments made. Gailey has been a Trout Fishery for nearly 30 years and the management team at Gailey see the natural resource of a good head of large Pike as a way of improving the economics of the fishery. Peter Davies one the team commented " We know we loose a number of Trout to predators Pike, Cormorants etc, by offering winter Pike fishing revenue gained pays for lost Trout, it's a win, win situation we recover our losses and Pike anglers have a great water to fish". The relationship between our Trout fishermen and Pike anglers works quite well, although the two styles of fishing could cause conflict, we have rules of common sense and courtesy. Gailey holds a good head of mid 20lb fish, but Trout fishermen report monster Pike chasing hooked trout, Good news for Gailey Pike regulars, is an early bird season ticket available at £100 if purchased before 15th of October or £150 (same price as last year) Day Tickets are available for £10 which includes a £1.00 per ticket that goes in to a pool for the seasons biggest Pike. Large Lures can be used as well as Live Trout which can be purchased from the lodge.(No live or dead bait can be brought to Gailey) Gailey's Motto is "Run by Anglers for Anglers" so the new management team would love to see old faces and season ticket holders and new visitors, Season 1st October 2007 to February 29th 2008 Day Tickets are £10, Large Boat Hire £10, Engine Hire £10 Booking in advance is recommended For full details contact- Gailey Trout Fishery Main A5 Nr Cannock (800 yrds Jct 12 M6 Motorway)Staffordshire on 01785 715848

  8. Gailey Trout fishery in Staffordshire, was just weeks from closing until 12 members stepped in to secure trout fishing at one of the Midlands oldest fisheries. The 12 have formed a management committee and have set about to radically improve Gailey. Facilities, maintenance and the quality of fishing are the main priorities. The committee have already completed many improvements they identified when the took over Gailey in January. Visitors will notice construction of a superb new lodge with kitchen rest area and meeting room. Timber decking terraced down to the new boat moorings, New toilet block, A new safety boat and engine has been purchased, New boats have arrived with more on the way, existing boats are being refurbished, extra casting platforms and maintenance of the existing one’s are well under way. Area’s of reeds are being cut back creating interesting new pegs, also being considered is a walk way through the woods for wading on the gravel banks, a favourite haunt from years gone by. Any one who hasn't been to Gailey recently will not recognise the place, one visitor said "more improvements have been made in 3 weeks than i have seen in the past 30 years. "Gailey's Motto is "Run by Anglers for Anglers" so the new management team would love to see old faces and season ticket holders and new visitors. Gailey already holds a good stock of fish, new stocking will take place at the end of February and through out March. Gailey Trout is located 800 yards off Junction 12 M6 off the A5 Cannock. for more information Tel 01785 715848
