I think there is an area where you are allowed to bait fish from, but like you say, maybe by using a bigger fly one could be tempted!

Does anybody on here fish Stithians at all? Just wondered if there is any evidence of pike in there?

I always hear that trout waters are good for pike. Does anyone know if there are any pike in Stithians? I know it is mostly trout in there, plus some other coarse species, but what about pike? Do any of the fly fishers get bothered by them?

There are apparently some good fish in Argal, but there are lots of jacks. Lyn - was it Porth that had pike to 30lb in or another water all together. Someone else mentioned about Retallack to me, so I will get up there and have look. Would just like some other options to Argal, its the only place I seem to fish now!

Does anybody know of waters that hold pike in Cornwall? I have been fishing Argal for a while now and would like to try some where else. Thanks

It will be a pair of chesties that I purchase. Looks like I need to make the decision of neoprene or rubber. It is just the warmth issue that concerns me.

Thanks Newt. Are you able to wear thermals/trousers underneath the neoprene waders? Will they do for summer and winter?

Thanks for all your replies on this. I have passed on the info to my mate and he is hoping to give it a go ASAP. As he has never fished a river before (and neither have I) he is a little unsure as to the best places to fish. Can anyone recommend anywhere along the river as a starting point? Thanks again.

Hi, I am after some information for a mate who has recently moved up to Hadleigh. He has been telling me about this river that he has been walking along and has seen evidence of fishing along it. He would like to have a go himself but is unsure of how to get permission. Can anyone help? Thanks.

We are not sure exactly yet. Sooner the better tho!! What about targetting skate from the shore? (Same for all the species I have mentioned). We thought the rib might be useful for drfting a wreck or two, or for the tope etc.

Thanks for that, but we have looked at various websites prior to our trip a couple of years ago. As I said, info for the Tarbet area, Lochaline and so on would be appreciated. (The marks I have mentioned I have only seen mentioned briefly so would appraciate more info on these marks and others if poss).

A couple of years ago a friend and I spent a weeks fishing in Scotland. We were based in Oban and had a couple of days skate fishing and a few sessions on Loch Etive. We caught spurdog on the Loch, but nothing of any great size, although we did get bitten off a couple of times. This time, we would like to concentrate on the shore fishing, targeting tope, skate (if possible) spurdogs and some light rod work for pollack. Again, we will be based in Oban with family, but we are willing to travel within reason. (We are travelling up from Cornwall again). We will hopefully have the use of a RIB for a couple of days to. The RIB is kept at Tarbet (?hope that is correct). So where should we head from Oban? Is Loch Etive worth another go? When would be the best time to head off? Thanks!!

Cheers mate, I had a feeling it would be some thing like that but thought I'd better check! So does the barbed hook get 'threaded' through the bait (dead or live) and then the plastic added to prevent it coming off? It will probably be obvious to me when I use them at the weekend, but don't want to get to the mark and be unsure!

Hi guys, I bought a couple of pike rigs yesterday and they are different to the ones I have purchased before. On the trebles, they have little plastic bits on one of the hooks. What are these for and how do I use them? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear in the posting. If we do not have a boat on the canal for 3/4 nights, we will bivvy on a lake for the duration, with the hope of using a boat for 1/2 days. If we can hire we will if not, we may look in to taking our own if the lake allows. What does it cost to fish the canals normally?

OK. What about lakes in that area. We would be looking for a 3/4 night session, possibly with the use of boats if possible. Can anyone recommend a lake with a good head of fish? Thanks again.

Hi, Has anybody fished these stretches of water. A mate and I thinking about getting a boat and having a weeks fishing. Are there any pike in this area or would we be best to head to Norfolk? What other species could we target and any other general info greatly received. Thanks!

Hi, I have noticed on previous threads that trout fisheries are mentioned for there pike fishing. I have never heard of anything other than trout coming out and was wondering if anybody has fished it. I haven't fished it before as I don't have the fly fishing bug, not for trout anyway! So what species are in this water, if other fish occupy the lake, what size do they run to? Thanks
