I have no idea what you are talking about ?
I presume you are American, I could be wrong, but you give your address as America ?
Is that correct ?
I thought it was you who said you had seen far more Carp than I ?
But you know nothing about me or where I worked ?

You may be right, the 7lb 13ozs Chub I caught from the Relief Channel in January was 26inches long, but it's girth was only 14inches and it carried very little in it's gut, but this was January and they usually fill out with spawn in February/March.
Interesting stuff, chub weights.

One thing I have noticed about the larger chub from Southern waters is how short, fat, unfit and unhealthy they appear compared to the ones from more northern regions. They appear to have bloted guts like the carp we often see. It make you wonder if the fish that get so fat have some kind of genetic disorder.
By the way i'm not trying to put these fish down, i'm just pointing out the obvious.
That does appear to be true, but I honestly believe it's down to a diet mainly of Crayfish, you see the same in Carp which have feasted on Crayfish, having said that, the Big Chub I have caught fought very well and were certainly fighting fit.
My biggest Chub was 251/2 inches long to the V of the tail with a girth of 181/2 inches, a truly massive fish, Simon Chub of 8lbs14ozs was 241/2inches long with a girth of 171/2inches, having spoken with other big chub captors, I think that Chub seem to reach an optimum length of between 24 to 26 inches and then expand their girth depending on what they are eating.
Interestingly the Crayfish in the Fisher Green catchment area seem to be less this year and I wonder if that is why the Chub were slightly down in weight ?

I have only fished the Kennet a few times, but the Chub weights in the Lea have certainly been influenced by Crayfish, in fact the 3 Big Chub caught by Simon King and Myself all had coughed up bits of Crayfish at the bottom of the Landing/keepnets.
I was told by someone who has a Fishery Science degree, that the large Chub we were catching, were from the 1976 spawning, the two huge Chub known as the Police Pit chub and Neill Stevens chub were not caught last season, it does not mean they are dead as there is a lot of water where they could be, that is out of bounds to anglers.
But at near 40 years old, they have to be nearing the end of their lives.
Incidentally, it is believed that there were 4 different 8lb chub from the Old Lea (Kings Weir/FGC) Relief Channel section last year, plus some very big 7s.

I could donate a signed copy of the Osprey Specimen Group and Friends Book.

That's precisely my point Bob.
John.
John,
Your main aim is to have a go at me when ever possible, I know you seem to have something against Carp fishing and fisherman, I'm an all-rounder, thus my Gallery, so I will always come back at you and if it sounds elitist, go out and catch the same kind of fish I have !!
And when you have, post up a few pictures as prove of those captures.
Taking pictures of fish has been a part of British Specimen Hunting since the 1950s, it's part of our a culture and not something maybe understood by anglers from abroad, those who don't want to take pictures often like to belittle anglers who do and thus we find the same old arguments turn up time after time.
I have been asked by a number of poster to give advise on certain types of Specimen fishing and I have given the advise willingly, but there are one or two poster on here who don't seem to appreciate the type of fishing I do and some of the other lads on here.
To bad I will continue to help if I can and the Tread Spoilers will get short shrift from me !!

I had my first trip out this close season and as usual I like to do a bit of pleasure fishing, using my Cane rods and dated fixed spools.
Sitting there minding my own business and firing out maggots, the line suddenly ripped off and I jumped up only to find myself flat on the floor with a tweaked shoulder ?
Still not a blank and a very enjoyable afternoon !!
Bob
This is how I started the Thread, only to be hijacked by those who have issues other than catching a few fish and creating a thread of fish caught in the old Closed River Season.

I have read the thread Bob, that's why I was able to comment on something I thought was wrong. No point scoring involved, just a dislike of avoiding giving a 'proper' answer, by an attempt to belittle the other person. It's not the first time I've mentioned it, and sadly I doubt it will be the last.
John
gozzer,
Same as, the last time we crossed swords !!
Phone,
How would you know how many carp I've seen ?
Bob
-
Rich,
It took me over 50 years to get a "4" and as far as I'm concerned they are still Huge fish, like you I caught a few 3s last season and they are still remarkable Perch, I've only had two 4s in 60 years of fishing, so as far as I'm concerned, you did amazingly well.
A long time ago a famous angler once told me, you can only catch what's in front of you !!
You never know when that float goes under or the tip goes around, what might be on the other end of your line.
Very well done on your captures.

Well done Kappa, lovely Perch, what a brace.

Tut tut Bob, here you go again, putting 'lesser mortals' down. Why do feel you have to do that?
We've all seen and admired your impressive list of angling achievements. There's no need to try and belittle others for not matching them.
John.
Read the thread Gozzer, thread spoilers scoring points ?

I have only ever taken two pictures ,i have no need to show off and my memory is just fine thanks so i dont need any for personal use ,i stopped taking them when i grew up and realised i dont need trophy shots or to impress others
I have no problem looking at others but i look at the scenery rather than the fish ,my competitive spirit is long gone when they thought came i was only competing with myself LOL
I did however post a vid of me walking to my local pond over in the photo section ,it has no fish but a couple of white herony things which i guess eat fish so fish related
I've heard it all before, usually from people who cannot catch any thing worth photographing !!
And only interested in spoiling threads for their own ends.

Go fishing chester and put up some photo's !!

Chester,
It would seem you are only happy when bringing a political side to any thing about fishing.
There is nothing to stop any one fishing in the close season on Still Waters where it's allowed, it's their choice if they choose not too !!
So back to the thread- Close Season Captures.

chester1
You would ?
But hopefully this is a tread and pictures of fish caught in the traditional " Closed season !!

Androo,

Nice fish Andy, really fun on light tackle !!

Thankyou lads, I really enjoy this type of fishing, using the old gear, even if you don't catch looking at the split cane rod and old fixed spool reel is a pleasure in itself.
Can't wait to get out again !!

If that's for me Paul,
I don't like braid for any form of fishing, be it trotting, legering of carp fishing.
The noise of the line going through the rings makes me cringe, I tried it for a season and gave up on it.
I realise the advantages, but it's not for me !

barry, there was only one team in it I'm afraid and they had lots in hand.
Only if the two Mercedes break down or get knocked out will you see anther winner on the podium this season.
Bob

Dave,
Honda have been there before and I have no doubt they will sort out the engines, it's how long it takes ?
Certainly going to be a boring season if the Merc's continue to dominate, but no more so the four years of Red Bull winning.

Rusty
Is that the new rod ?
Sitting behind such a creation is a pleasure in itself, even if you don't put a bend in it !!
Well done on the captures.
