  1. Folks, Where can i buy the rivets, little pulley wheels, ties etc to make anchor trolleys and mount on my kayak hull? Thanks
  2. I use a Ron Thompson Steelhead Pro. It's ideal for my needs. There's a great deal at the moment at glasgow angling centre which will set you up for less than 40 quid! The reel is naff but you won't cry if you loose it and the rod is really surprisingly good. Click below: http://www.fishingmegastore.com/cgi-bin/sh...14551#a1_214551
  3. Folks, I've recently moved up from Essex to Scotland (just south of Glasgow) and amm looking for sites to launch and fish my kayak. I've heard that there are bass in luce Bay and along the Ayrshire coast...can anyone recommend sites which aren't usually to rough or with fast tides? Cheers Mark
  4. Folks, I'd be grateful for any advice or help you can give me. I've recently returned to Scotland after some 15yrs absence (did you miss me?) and would like to get back into fly, trout and salmon fishing. I'm based in South Lanarkshire, work in Ayrshire and stalk in Dumfries and Galloway. So, can anyone suggest good venues, rivers, lochs and clubs, etc. I can't believe how much the fishing has changed in only 15yrs.
  5. Thanks for the advice guys. I did use your advice and caught a big 2.5lb brownie on a black pennel and a 4lb rainbow with a hare ear nymph in the afternoon. Both flies were used on a sink tip line with long leader and retrieved slowly.
  6. Folks, I'm of fly fishing on a scottish loch tommorrow for brown and rainbow trout (stocked). It's been some years since i've fly fished lochs so was hoping for some advice ...namely which flies to use. The weather promises to be cold (5oc) and wet so i figure sink lines. The area is devoid of trees with mostly heather and scrub - bloody windy to! Any recommendations gratefully received. Marc
  7. Guys, I've moved into a little town called Biggar in South Lanarkshire. Locals shouldn't be a prob as i am Scottish! Just been out of the country for the last 15 years or so.
  8. Well, i've finally made it and moved from Essex to Scotland. That'll be despite the house initially failing to get a habitation order and the removal truck engine siezing on the M6! A week spent in travellodges makes you appreciate your own bed so much. Anyway, now that i'm here - is there any sites on the south west coast of Scotland worth a visit at the mo?
  9. Seriously mate, it does work. We used to use the same method to part some erecting poles when in the Paras. The point is that your thigh muscles are stronger than your arms and the hands only grip each blank, either side of the spigot so force is directed in equal and opposite directions; not twisted etc.

Honest answer is no.....he turned out to be a carbon copy of his father who didn't see what my problem was. His car was subsequently modified some (we probably ende up increasing its value!) and he got a few slaps for good measure. It's amazing how someone who previously couldn't give a toss about his spawn can suddenly take an interest in their behaviour etc. Especially when their own well being is directly effected.
  11. Put rod behind your knees with the mated sections between your legs. Bend knees and grasp rod with hands on the outside of each knee. Slowly part your knees wider and wider whilst holding the sections firmly - your knees will force your hands outwards.....you can apply much more pressure with your legs than arms....it should part.

It's tempting but isn't worth it guys Last halloween some shits in our neighbourhood decided to go one better than eggs and bounced a bloody pumpkin off the wife's new Audi. Unfortunately for them i was just getting ready to take the dog for a walk so caught the main offender in the park near the house. Stupid bugger didn't even have the sense to keep his mouth shut so i lost my temper. Police rolled up a few hours later to question me because the sap actually admitted that i'd given him the beating because he'd only just vandalised the wife's car. Stupid plod didn't want to record the vandalism because poor scrote had ended up in hospital and that crime was more important....blah, blah. Thankfully a mate is a good barrister who told the police to sod off and a few mates and i paid the scrotes family a visit. So it all went away but the point is that scum was almost 18 and had a whole string of crimes to his name yet the police were only interested in trying to get me to confess because i was seen as an easy collar. The days in which the rights of the average working tax payer are over.
  13. sod those. This is what i'm saving my pennies for: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=X11g5id9mkI&...ted&search=
  14. don't forget that the bass and mullet are in at the moment. You can get some cracking sport in the rivers joining the Thames, etc. It's free and just as worthwhile in teaching you to cast!
  15. Hanningfield is your best bet, mate. They have stages positioned around the loch from where you can get that extra bit out on the water before trying to learn to cast. They also offer lessons but i think it's a bit expensive. They do an inexpensive evening ticket. There are loads of package deals available at the moment - it's mid season and ot alot is selling. You could try the tackle bargains here or post another thread stating your budget and the guys will suggest options. However, make sure you get yourself a reel with a couple of spare spools and get yourself some differnt lines. I'd suggest the following: Daiwa Wilderness Fly Outfit These rods were new for 2005 and have proved very popular. They were awarded best buy for rods under £100 by Trout & Salmon against some stiff competition. These rods are a fast modern action and easy to use. Full Outfit Contains Any Wilderness Fly Rod Scierra IC3 fly reel and 3 Spare Spools 2 Supreme Fly Lines (one Floating one Intermediate) 2 Spools Braided Backing and Loops Fly Box with 50 Assorted Flies Code Length AFTM Handle Pieces Rod Price Outfit Price DW1959 9ft 6 #7 F/Wells 3 £68.08 £136.16 You'll find it at http://www.fishingmegastore.com/acatalog/F...ng_Outfits.html Incidentally, i normally fish with an intermediate at Hanningfield at this time of year.
  16. Are they stable enough to go out in the sea with? A mate wants one. Marc
  17. Cheers guys. I'll order the marine glue and try. Cod - Sunday was my last oppertunity to fish Essex before my move back to Scotland so was desperate to get out. As we discussed, the weathermen, shipping forecast and magic seaweed couldn't make their minds up so i decided to try Canvey as i was just as likely to get blown off there are somewhere further away....that and seeing the pic of your mullet. Fortunately the wind was relatively calm and the tide wasn't bad upon arrival. Wind mainly easterly and waves approx a foot. Anyway, i went down to the little beach area by Thorney Bay and launched from there - dodging the bloody morons who thought it funny to race on their jetskis there. I paddled out into the main channel and let the tide carry me up to the jetty at the refinery. I trawled around a big mackerel type plug and a wiggly worm without success so then tossed out the anchor just outside the deep hole there and baited up with sandeel on 1 and squid tipped with rag on the other. The sandeel was completely ignored but i started to get small bass on the squid/rag. Nothing serious; just small ones. About an hour later i got my one and only serious bass of just over 4lb (it tasted lovely). Everything got quite at high tide and the bloody jetskis had decided to follow me over to race over to the jetty so i decided to up-anchor and head back with the ebb. Unfortunately the anchor wouldn't budge and also wouldn't trip, no matter how hard i tried. The wind really picked up and the waves rose so i cut the anchor line. The trip back was a bit hairy and i definately discovered the limitations of the caper and myself! I decided there and then to get myself something more stable and able to carry my lardy backside and kit. So i'm off to Scotland early nexy month and no doubt i'll be harassing the locals and fish there
  18. Guys, I currently own an Ocean caper and have a fishfinder mounted in the cockpit with a battery stored in the hull (inside a tupperware) and the transducer mounted on the inside of the hull. Unfortunately the transducer just won't stay permanently fixed. I sanded the inside of the hull and transducer face and stuck them together with araldite - fell off after 2 trips, plastic type glue - fell off after 2 trip, PVC cement - 1 trip. Does anytone have and ideas how i can mount it permanently? Marc
  19. Simon, Now you have my attention! I'm 5'10", 50inch chest and weigh approx 18stone...and yes i was a prop for many years. I was fast coming to the reasilsation that my current yak just isn't stable enough with my weight and had come to the decision to order another...such as the fish & game but i think i'd like to get a fibreglass for it's strength, etc . I intend it for fishing primarily and one the more open west of scotland shore. So considering my size, tackle and operating area, which of the 3 should i consider: Pelican, Dorado or the marlin?
  20. My kid's primary school won't allow the kids to sing 'Bah Bah Black Sheep' and the potty head even thought about not celebrating Easter. Even the muslim and sikh parents kicked up a stink! Thankfully he's since moved on to bugger up another school.
  21. Almost bought the C-tug after being thoroughly embarassed by my DIY effort. However i spotted the kayak trolley offered by Decathlon Sports and bought that instead. Bloody good trolley and the wheels come off for easy storage. I think it was £50. You'll find it on their web site.
  22. I wonder what makes them jump like that??? Incidentally, the bass are def in at Essex. I caught 3 crackers yesterday
  23. Get yourself some hooks with an additional bard half way down the shank. Take the point of the hook and pass it down through the head and round in a big circle until the point comes out below and behind the head. Take some elastic and whip it on the hook - don't mumify it. Lastly - accept that it's a bait prone to work loose and that it's less than ideal for distance casting.
  24. what are the names of the edible crabs, prawns and lobsters in the british isles......i think i need some pics before i start munching
  25. The problem won't necessarily be with the actual yak. More likely be the danger of cross contamination of water by failing to sanitise the hull before entry. The float tube lochs that i know demand that you spray the float with their sanitiser before using (if you take your own).
