  1. Yep, no problem, quite looking forward to the experience :-). Is there anything that I would find useful which I'm not able to borrow? It would be nice to slowly get together everything I need for this style of fishing so if there is something which I need which I can't borrow I might as well start off looking at buying that.
  2. Anderoo, I was thinking about buying the following just in case they were needed. 2 x H-Block Markers (I think this is what they are called) Selection of jig heads and lures Hopefully I will be able to get them before Friday, if not then they will be fine for next time. Would you be able to recommend where to get them from? It looks like you were using non-standard weights on the h-block markers, was this for additional weight? What weight were you using to hold bottom? Cheers
  3. Ok, that sounds great then. I've requested the day off work so I will hopefully here back this today/tonight but I'm sure it is fine. Anderoo, are you able to book the additonal boat or do you need me to?
  4. Hiya, A crash course in using/handling the boat would be fine (assuing it is safe and Anglian Water are happy with this). I'm not too worried about the actual fishing, I would just stick to white/silver lures and paddle/twin tail so if I could borrow some that would be great, I would also probably bring one of my own rods as well to try those out, but the use of an a rod I know will work would be useful. My main worries would be 1 - Following your drifts may get a bit annoying for the people I am following, you spending all the time finding the good spots and I take advantage of it. 2 - Cost, it was £60 for two people in one boat, how much is it for one person in one boat? Still £60? If all these are ok I would most likely try and follow drifts for the first half of the day and then if I did have access to a fish finder start trying to find some spots by myself, unless we are in an area with lots of fish (good learning chance and more chance to find fish for both boats)
  5. When would Alex know if he can make it Anderoo? I would need to book the time off as soon as possible.
  6. Hiya, It sounds like it might be better to leave it then rather than come in at late notice, I'll make sure I sign up early for the next one :-). I'll possibly book the week off in which the 2nd option is occuring so if there is a spot available without causing issues I could join. What is the date of that one October 23rd?
  7. No problem Anderoo, I should be able to find one of my lure rods which is suitable and assuming you can point me in the direction of the required lures/jig heads I should be fine for all that, so it's just the more boat specific stuff really which would cause the problem. Let me know if you can fit me in and I'll try and get the time of work (before you book any additional boats)
  8. So I'm officially hooked on Zander fishing! It looks like I need to take a week off work in October so I was wondering if it's too late to add my name to the list? Which date is the fishin? Are there enough people with equipment (sonar + drouges) to allow another person to join the fishin?
  9. Thanks again Andrew. We had a great day, the weather wasn't too bad and I was made to feel really stupid at the bites I was missing!!! One of them I felt the bite, my rod tip bent over, I felt the fish kick and for some reason my body decided not to bother striking!!! I've never had so much fun being made to feel stupid and frustrated :-D Already trying to think about when I might be able to fish there again.
  10. Hi Andrew, I have permission from the relevent people to be allowed to go :-). Just need to check I have the right amount of tackle or I can get it tomorrow and then I can confirm assuming the place is still available. Also let me know how much the space is. Neil
  11. Not sure if it's still available (I would need to check with work/girlfriend before being allowed to go :-)) but what equipment would we need? I suspect I don't have the lure/jig heads required so do they sell them at the venue or would I need to find some today?
  12. Hiya, I think (although someone who know more might be able to give a better answer) you need to find out the storage capacity of the Battery. There should be a Ah rating (possibly specified mAh) for the battery and I think you need to know that before knowing how long the batter will last...... I mgiht be wrong though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampere-hour
  13. I'm very tempted, always wanted to catch a Zander. I think a combination of expecting a our first child next month and not having any experience fishing from a boat might make it not possible this time :-(.
  14. Good luck everyone! Even though I'm not there, it is exciting waiting for the catch reports to come in :-)
  15. Thanks :-). I was using a Major Craft Go Emotion GEC632ML(5-14gr) with an Okumo Komodo 273. As you can see I wasn't expecting a 25lb pike but the setup did really well and didn't struggle at all even in the snaggy swim, I will probably using a lighter baitcasting outfit for perch/chub when the river season starts and keep this one for Pike. Edit - Lure was a 9cm Rapala Shallow Shad in Perch Pattern
  16. My closed season started with a wimper and has now come back with a bang! almost all of my fishing in the last few years has been lure fishing for perch and chub but this year I decided I wanted to try and improve my lure caught like PB to at least a double......... I've smashed this target tonight with with a 25lb 4oz gravel pit pike :-D 2 problems now....... First I need to come up with a new target and secondly I now have to come to terms with probably never catching a pike that big again!

    lure rod

For wire when targetting perch I use Drennan Soft Strand in 10lb if I could find something supple that was lower in breaking strain I would probably use it but this seems quite good. As far as rod goes, what size soft plastics and weight jig head are you planning to use, the combined weight will factor into the rod you need.
  18. I currently use the drennan soft strand for chub and perch lure fishing and yes it's great for presentation but a nightmare to have to have to replace often. I'll have a look at those two, can you let me know what they are like when they arrive :-) Edit - Just looked at the Nova Silk, it looks good and being able to get it down to 6lb might be good for perch fishing. I might have to order some as well but if you can reply with some initial thoughts when you get it that would be great. :-)
  19. I'm not sure if it exists but have you found/tried any low breaking strain multi strand titanium? The two titanium traces I've made lure traces out of were drennan 20lb titanium and 12lb/20lb knot2kinky. The knot2kinky I think (if I remember correctly) is a stiff single strand wire which I found wasn't any good for anything where you wanted the fish (pike/perch in my case) to hold on to the lure until you set the hook i.e jigs/seedless frogs, it would be good for crankbaits though. The drennan was great, it was multi-strand, very supple, much more than similar strength normal wire. If you could find a multi-strand wire at around 8/10lb that might be what you need....... If you find something like that then let me know :-)

    Big rudd

If you want to be driven mad try catching them on tiny lures, I've had rudd over two pounds (estimate) follow tiny spinners in and nip at the tail but getting them to hook up is difficult. My biggest was only 15oz but if I can tear myself away from the rivers on a hot summer evening I might give it another go.
  21. Conditions looks good for sun bathing if the fish don't feed..... Hopefully they will feed well after the mixed weather of the past few weeks :-).
  22. Really looking forward to seeing the catch reports for this :-). Good luck to everyone!
  23. I said I wasn't going to apply this year.....but I'm getting tempted :-). I would assume it is full but now though. I have been reading past years reports and it brings back lots of memories of failing dramatically :-)
  24. It was me that had the 10lb tench sat year...... Steve put me in a great swim, I couldn't believe my luck :-)
