  1. Also with a bit of practise you can feel what the bottoms like gravel, weed, silt, etc they all have a different feel when the lead is pulled over them you have to use braid for this though because of the lack of stretch
  2. No amount of practise helps failing eye sight. My old man has the same problem I tie most of his hooklenghts but if im at work a fella from the local tackle shop ties him a few up charges him no more than the price of the bits. Might be worth asking your tackle shop. Or maybe a fellow angler
  3. Can someone shed some light on why people seem to target barbel in winter? I remember reading a chris yates book where he says barbel are his species of choice through the winter months. I love fishing for barbel but ive never had a great deal of success through winter Cheers scott
  4. Found that net stuff I was on about earlier its by fox and its called arma mesh
  5. You can get these nets to wrap your baits in they only really work affectively with boilies though I think never used them but might be worth investigating
  6. I spend nights awake thinking about what I want to catch where im gonna fish, what tactics/new tactics, when can I wangle an hours fishing in around the family, where could I go where the family could come for a picnic etc I spend more time obsessing over these things than actually fishing and the new floats im making arent helping!!! 7. Nice idea ill try that when they are ready to be varnished Cheers
  8. Hi lads Can anyone give me some info on stret pegging. I remember my old man telling me he had used the method years ago and had some good catches on the local river. I get the general gist of the method but im not too sure in what situations it would be an advantage also the thing I carnt get my head around is if your fishing over depth do you tighten up to the quill so the line is taught to the weight or let the quill drift. Oh and the other thing is I assume you need enough shot to hold bottom so would this method be very practical on a fast flowing water? Cheers scott
  9. I also perfer banksticks but on some waters its just not possible. So I bought a fox x pod cost me £95 and ive had it ages now
  10. Cheers for the info lads ive never been the best with a paint brush but im quite handy wih the lathe so if nothing else they will work well if not look the best. I think I need some decent thin brushes but I quite like the dipping idea. I made 6 floats so ill have a go at different things and ill let you know how I get on Thabks again scott
  11. Hi all Can anyone give me some advice on painting floats im using strips of masking tape to get straight lines which works well on stems and tips but the current float im painting is an avon and getting a straight line on the curved body of the float is proving tricky anyone got any tips on how to do this Cheers scott
  12. I use I mix that's not far from that but I put a little tigernut flour in mine and try adding some cream cajouser flavouring makes it kinda creamy smelling also I don't use Robin red but that's only because I have caught well on pale baits. The tiger nut flavouring I use is tigernut oil the Cotswold baits one is good. Oh and one more thing I've been meaning to use some almond extract it smells amazing I've just not got round to rolling any yet
  13. Hi guys I make alot if my own boilies and make my own base mixes. I wondered if anyone did the same. And if anyone could recommend anywhere to buy cheap ingredients it's not so much flavourings it's more soya flour and cornmeal things like that most bait companies sell it but the price can be ridiculous. And when you add postage it makes bait really expensive. Also I know tesco do sell soya flour but only in 500g bags Cheers scott
