  4. My mistake it is 3 tons cheers steve the revised quota was posted last week. Rick MustGoFishing
  5. You are correct Barry, 90% of the Cod quota was up in February and Defra spread out the remaining 10% to 50Kg a month, And rod and line anglers, professional or not, wouldn’t make a dent on fish stock, I’m not saying scrap all trawlers and netters, it is all supply and demand industry. Like you, all of our Conger go back unless its for the anglers pot (Not nice) or for their fishing club records, Most fish weights are estimated and returned, with all under 40lb are released at the side of the boat, With regards Pollock’s habits, you do have to work your gear! Pollock can be found from as soon as you gear hit the bottom to 60+ turn of the handle, but that’s fishing! You never know what you’re going to catch! Wednesday on the reef 4lb 8oz John Dory using a Lance whist targeting Pollock (nice to see)
  6. Hi Clicker, 50 Kg of cod is our limit per month to land as a registered and licensed under 10 commercial fishing boat and that can be trawlers, netters and potters if they have they correct license but they would not target Cod, As a part time crewman on a charter boat, The skipper and I would often go out and do our homework for our next charter and land the fish that we caught to pay for fuel and a day pay (Hopefully), last month we did that quota in a day, and we was looking for Pollock, every wreck that we went to had cod on them. With regard returning Cod to the water would they go back after being pulled up 270ft? not that anglers put them back anyway!
  7. Hi Cornishman, You are spot on about the under 10's rule beaters and MFA, With regard spawning fish and quotas, I except we all need to earn a living and for the netters the Pollock is there bread and butter money during the winter and I respect to the guys who battle the weather to retrieve there gear daily, But MFA and the marine scientists are always discussing fish stocks, common sense would say to increase future stocks, on any fish, would be put a quota on the fish during the spawning periods, This would improve the prices on the quay, and improve our stocks for future generations. Saying that if you take 2 fish off a wreck today you can't expect them to be there tomorrow! (chicken and the egg) Anyway how's fishing! look forward to your reply. MustGoFishing
  8. In the SouthWest we have a 50kg a month quota for cod, now that ain't alot per boat, What makes me laugh is the quota for Pollock During the sporning months and the pollock are on the wrecks there are no quotas, netter hit and empty every wreck , now when the remaining fish have spent and dispersed, fisherys put a limit on them. Where is the sense! Cod fishing down the Southwest is improving, better size and better numbers, Thats got to be a good sign!
  9. Not only fuel consumption, you will save a fortune on servicing! She will shift when she in the water, whats the estimated top speed with the volvo

  13. To true blue, but it's almost overnight this happerns the blanks are alright!
  14. As a crewman / Ex commercial Bass angler we use Uptiders (Shimano twin power a good example) and an Abu 7500, the rods has the power for bulling fish out the wreck, yet you do have some cracking sport, the reel is the mutts nutts, they take a pounding and never give up! The same as the 7000 Red end caps, but the red caps get eaten after two seasons, the silver end cap are made of brass worth the extra. Hope this helps Rick MustGoFishing
  15. Is it me or no-matter what you do to the rod(s) the eyes rust! What ever happerned to Silstar
