  1. Just stand them in fresh tap water, they will come out of their shells on their own looking for sea water. Works a treat for me.
  2. Everyone to their own mate but to be honest I believe most boat anglers go not for the 'mass catches' but hopefully to catch a fish of a better stamp than one caught from the shore and if you are on a boat, with an experienced skipper like those in Whitby then you won't draw a 'blank' as often happens when fishing from the shore. Also fishing from a boat out of the likes of Whitby then you always stand the chance of catching a 'record' or close to one. Every area has it's own good class of fish, Whitby has Cod, so that's why guys will go for an extended trip, not to catch a boat load. If you were to ask many boat anglers I think most would give up their entire catch for just one fish that was either a record or near it. A few ports round the coast have that ability, that's why some are more popular than others. I used to boat fish a lot but due to my health and also, (the main reason), is that I was ALWAYS sea-sick, not that it bothered me but seemed to bother everyone else....One starts, they all start etc!!! lol I never went to 'bag up' but to enjoy a day out with the lads, have a laugh and hopefully a few fish. If you just want fish then a trip to the 'fishmongers' would probably work out a lot cheaper and less time consuming. :-)

    Knots

Hi Mate, try these two sites for tying knots, the first one has animated knot tying, brilliant. Both site are useful for beginner and experienced alike. I've learnt new knots and I'm 58years young! The first site gives descriptions for what the use would be and I believe the knot strength after being tied. Hope this helps. This problem you have is also a reminder to everyone to check their tackle and rigs before every fishing trip! I've always found that the old adage is right, you normally get what you pay for. To me, line is probably the most important factor about getting a fish on dry land, without it you have no chance unless of course you are very good at throwing a spear! We all do it, spend £100's on a rod and the same amount on a reel then buy a bulk spool of line 'cos it was £3 for a 1000 metres! Not saying that is your problem but it is something to look at. http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php http://www.fish4fun.com/knots.htm cheers mate and tight lines. :clap2:
  4. He was a great character, sadly not many are left.
  5. I love them grilled and then cheddar cheese over the top and grilled until golden brown. Most folk think the cheese will make it real greasy but it works the other way around. The cheese soaks up the juices and it tastes absolutely divine. Who mentioned food again?
  6. Hi Steve, Would this club be boat angling only? Cheers John
  7. Sorry mate, posted twice, didn't think it had come up first time around.
  8. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ May, 06:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Absolutely correct about not having to pay a fortune for quality gear, just because it's made in the far east doesn't mean it's inferior gear. Now that they've sorted the quality control the gear is as good as anyones. I review far east built gear for some well known firms and if they were dishonest and stuck a union flag on it we wouldn't know the difference. Couldn't agree more Norman about the far east, I have purchased a spinning reel made in the far east somewhere and a mate has already pinched it off me so I have to get back on ebay and order another! I visit a Chinese products site and their prices are brilliant. I have purchased several Bass poppers and plugs from HongKong and I think they are top quality. I paid 99p for 4, starting price on Ebay, though it did cost me £12 for postage but still works out reasonable for 4 quality items. And Tony, I don't think it was me that posted on Cuba site, is there a link to it? I'll check it out. I do post on a few sites but not sure about this one. Living in MK it helps me keep in touch with what is going on around the coast. I have just bought one of their travel spinning rods to go along with the beach-caster I got off them. I have just got back off a weeks holiday up in the N/East, only had a couple of chances to use it though because of the weather! It is good quality and has a lovely action. As I said in my previous post I also use a Century F40 and I have an old Abu 464, (does anyone remember them?) purchased about 30 years ago and still going strong and still one heck of a rod. Only thing with the Abu is that it now looks deformed from the kink in it at the spigot from my bending it when I used to do a lot of pendulum casting...honest! I don't want to sound if I am going overboard about these Firefly guys, there are loads of great gear out there. All I would say is, check out their feed-back on Ebay, take a look at their site and then make an informed decision. BUT I would go over-board about Ebay, Bought LOADS of cheap quality gear off there! tight lines
  9. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ May, 09:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is the posters name and the word "Firefly" in the link a clue to a vested interest I wonder? No problem with me if it is as I often plug my paper but I have declared an interest but this praise is not impartial if there is a link. Hi Norm, No I don't have a vested interest ...honest! I joined another forum before joining this one and couldn't get the name I wanted so decided on FireFly because I hadn't had one of their rods long, just bought a second, a spinning rod, lovely rod honest - Decided to keep the name FireFly because this other forum had a link to this one, I wish I did have a vested interest or was on commission!! I do honestly rate these rods, if you visit ebay and read their 'feed-back' you will see that a lot of guys do as well. They remind me a bit of Century when they first started out, started small and look at Century now, these guys are a father and son outfit based in Yorkshire, building really good quality rods at a realistic price without ripping people off. I was the first guy in the Tees area to get a Century rod, I was a rep for a fishing tackle company and did a deal for one. That was a lovely rod but very stiff, trying to power it was some effort believe me, got one of their Formula 40's now, they really have come on. I think they are one of the top makers out their. As someone else has already stated, you don't have to pay a fortune to get good quality gear. Cheers
  10. Hi, Can understand where both of you are coming from. PC has gone mad in this country now. Phil if you lived where Mr Motorola lived you might feel the same as him. I run a neighbourhood watch scheme in my area, the biggest in the city and got asked to join the committee for the city. I did this because of all the crimes and anti-social behaviour that goes on. I won't go into chapter and verse but all of it committed by lads and lasses from 14 up to 21 led by a 21 year old who fed the rest drink and drugs. I had the same argument with my local plod about the use of the word 'gang' in a newsletter I put out. I kept it in for the most. The dictionary I read said the definition was 'group of criminals' - 'group of hoodlums' both accounts correct for my area. The plod are absolutely a waste of time, what I found out being part of the committee and meeting senior officers astounded me. I have now re-signed from the committee, no point, and continue promoting the scheme in my area. growing all the time. We as residents have got the area BACK to where it was, the 'GANG' that was trying to terrorise the vulnerable, women on their own, 70yrs plus, the disabled etc we have managed to 'discourage' without the help of the local plod. They have taken NO action in 2 years of asking. All words no action, as is par for the course in my city. If the 'PC Gang' used as much energy in tackling the REAL issues instead of the use or meaning of a word, then we might make inroads into putting OUR society back on track! Mr Motorola you have my 'sympathy' though that is probably the wrong word to use, I wish you luck in your endeavours, I would do exactly what you have done. The plod don't help, they are now powered by government legislation and targets and percentages. They look for a reason NOT to do anything rather than look for a way to HELP. If you think any other then believe me you are wrong. Cheers. I'm off back to me fishing
  11. Hi, Take a look at these rods, I bought one and was impressed enough to go back and buy one of their spinning rods. They are all quality built and get very good reviews. They sell on ebay so have a look at their feed-back, it's ALL good. They are a relatively new company based in the centre of Yorkshire somewhere. you can read all about them on the site and their products. The 14ft rod I found very good, just what I wanted, it chucks a 6oz lead and bait no problem at all. They are inexpensive but very good quality. The link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Firefly-Angling-Surf...oQQcmdZViewItem You can pay hundreds for a rod but for the price, the quality you get will really take some beating. Hope this helps. Cheers
  12. Hi Mike, That must be nice to get that close to a species and see what is actually happening. That to me is a lot of the appeal of fishing, pitting your wits against nature and winning. Just to let you know about these flashing lures, arrived this morning, they do look the business, very good quality so it will be interesting to use them and see how good they are. Without the lights I think they would do the business because they do look good but then again I ain't a fish. :-) Will keep you informed. Cheers
  13. I agree Mike, a lot of stuff is just there to catch the wallet but this is a knew concept I suppose. anyway, in for a penny in for a pound so it will be an interesting exercise. I have delved into my pocket for some so will let you know the outcome when I've tried them which should be the week after this, going up to Cleveland for the week so hopefully will get some fishing in. Well to be honest, not hopefully BUT will, please don't tell the wife yet as she doesn't know so hasn't decide to let me go yet.
  14. Hi, pleased you got sorted with Incredimail - I use it all the time and find it excellent. Especially for rejecting spam direct off the servers without having to download the stuff to your computer. If you ever need to change you password in Incredimail again, the following instructions might help: Click on 'Tools' on the top menu bar - on the drop down list click 'Accounts' - highlight the account you want to change, then click 'properties' a box will appear with 3 tags across the top, click the middle one which should say 'servers' - in there you will find UserName and PASSWORD, UNCLICK the box that says 'remember password' change your password then RE_CLICK the 'remember password' box, click OK and everything should be fine. Sounds complicated but it isn't - honest! Hope this helps. Cheers
  15. Thanks for that info Brian, I am coming up next weekend for the week so will post how I get on after. Cheers
