Caistron is a great place to fish, there is allot of weed in places but plenty of fish, it was very bright so bead headed buzzers and lures worked well, as well as the rainbows I took a blue ( first one ) Kielder is so big we should have had a boat, as it was we struggled on the bank, again a very sunny day the fish must have been way out in deep water. Maybe if we had stayed until the sun dropped a little we would had better success lesson learned and excuses made.

I feel the same as Greg I would replace it, it will spoil a good day if it gives you problems Ive have been asked to go fishing for mackeral in a couple of weeks time off a boat, what's it like with fly gear ? what set up do you use, im thinking sinking line and lead head lures? please let me know sounds like fun.

As you mention, the water is huge, so fishing to features and following the wind would seem the safest bet. Right I might have a look up before I fish it again might even walk around it, the largest man-made lake in Europe with a whopping 27 miles of shoreline, maybe not Anyone fished Caistron Lake ?

Has anyone fished Caistron Lake its near to Thropton and Rothbury. Im going on the 11th of June any advice would be a great help as ive never fished it. Fishing Kielder on the 6th June from the bank, fished it a few times, it seems very hit and miss, one visit a fish every five minutes, next visit finding it hard to draw any interest at all, maybe its a size thing, it is huge

Ive been three times now and had a great day each time, it's not a big water by a long way, but big isn't always best. For me it's a place to fish, it's small size gives me the confidence to try those flies that don't come out of the box very often. You know you are covering fish you can see them as explained above.

for warm sunny places (ie not the north east of england today) I think the tesco specials would come first. Some of the tesco ones look just the same as the 39.99 pairs from the tackle shop. Right then I'll save my money and go for the Tesco's type Reviews don't come any better, thanks

Thanks to all for the help and advice so far my next thought is off polorised sunglasses should I pay big money for them, should I buy a cheap pair or stick with just standard sunglasses? Will i see fish or is it just hype.

It just looked like a circus, trout leaping clear of the water all over the lake, i ve fishing just about every trout lake in the North East this is the only one to put on such a show. Coarse fish dont do this do they? Been to the fishery in question three times each time the same thing.

Fished today and have never seen trout behavior like it. Trout were leaping out of the water everywhere i looked, maybe three times in a row, they were not feeding, after catching a few and giving them a check over i found small clear lice on them. I was told that the water used to be a course fishery and the lice were left over Anyone come across this type of thing ? Is this stressing the fish ?

Well Berkely Vanish is fine, the type i bought is gold coloured, i'll not be going back to mono my eyes have been opened it just seems to connect to more fish maybe it's the colour or the lack of stretching or the way it sinks im not sure, it's just better.

Great now i know what they are i can order them, i was given a few, years ago and did like them for the reasons mentioned. Now i'll get some more thanks for the help and comments.

Has anyone used the small clips used at the end of a leader to attach lures ? They would make changing lures quicker and may allow a lure to move around more as the clip should act like a swivel Anyone know what they are called ? Anyone used them ? Thanks in advance

Well ive got it now so I will give it a try, what was the problem you found Sportsman ? Was it snapping, not turning over or did the fish not like it ? Let me know so I can watch out for it. It looks and feels fine I guess the proof will be when I get it on the water

Well I ve caught trout with just about everything in my box at one time or another, but my favorite two for Rainbows are Kate McLaren and Orange Fritz. Favorites for browns Ginger & gold and Black & Peacock ( both dry )

Just ran through some of your other posts & found you talking about Haltwhistle so must be Tyne near me any chance of a better description of this free stretch Or even a meet up.

The Tyne you say, which Tyne ? is it the Tyne that runs through Newcastle

Is it the free stuff thats been snapping or is it fluorocarbon in general ? Got a copy of Total Flyfisher with the free flurocarbon on it ( thanks ShedHed ) & im expecting some Berkley Vanish 6lb from e-bay.

Im not sure about sticking bits of food to hooks but ive help net a 20+lb carp from an old coarse fishery which is now stocked with trout. It took a Olive Bloodworm, after 20 minutes it came to the net not sure if this is unusual as not as ive not fished water with these fish before, it may be quite common.
