  1. Ive got a 1,3/4 lb test curve daiwa rod but i aint sure if it is too soft i bought this daiwa sensor carp rod because i fish margins on the surface for double figure carp. && this rod is just about 11 foot, therefore give me the helping hand shouldnt it in small gaps etc. BUTT, when i feel the tip of the rod, it seems extremely flimsy, [is this just because i am used too using stronger tipped rods ?] i catch double fig carp to roughlyy 17lb but if the odd twenty pops its head on the surface i want the rod too have enough strength too able to handle it and for me too feel safe playing the fish && another query is that i have 10lb line on my rouge 50 reel, will the rod be able to handle that thickness of lines due too the smaller eye holes ?? i would appreciate any help as i am going fishing tomorrow morning, [32st may] too a place guarented catch plenty of mid doubles or bigger [soo if you can tell me anything that changes my mind before then, i can take my 2,1/2 test curve rod instead heheee thats all i wanted too ask, have a great season by the way everyone this year =P AARON =D
  2. Do you wana get into bottom fishing then, if so just try to learn to tie your own hair rig . If u cant be bothered Just go to a tackle shop and buy one, it will come with a swivel, so maybe add a small lead and just then connect the mainline to the swivel.Add maybe a bead also against the swivel and maybe a shot. just to decrease chance tackle. In my words that the simpliest and cheapest rig for ledgering. On the other hand my personal favorite tactic! is surface fishing in the margins with dogbiscuit. size 10 hook, bait band, chum mixer. Simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope ive helped
  3. welcome m8 to AN, I'd just like to say it is whateva your comfortable with and also what type of tackle would suit your style of fishing. light float work, with light lines, stick to a nice and light 10/11ft rod, maybe even a closedface reel to stop your delicate lines blowing everywhere. But i still prefer open. feeder, casting a fair distance with a feeder packed with groundbait needs some power. Stick to 12/13ft rod with quivertip insert. And definetely open faced reel, but a reel with some power in the engine room!!! Maybe a little shimano 4000 spooled with 6lb,(can always use hooklenght if worried) waggler, for small to meduim carp, tench and bream. Id stick to an avon style rod with a 1.75 tc. So you can give the fish some stick!Again same kinda reel, shimano 4000. or maybe Daiwa. finally carp fishing. No less than a 12ft, at least 2.50tc to whack the leads out unless just generalist fishing, for example, floater fishing, stalking carp in shallow waters with float etc. And personally which i think is the most inportant part, the reel. Basically a freespin 50/60 will suit best, with good drag settings and a spare spool. Loaded with no less 10lb mono or maybe braid!!!!!!! I really hope i've helped Good Luck
  4. When ever i have a choice of an over fished, baited swim where fish may have become spooked of! I ALWAYS INVESTIGATE WEED or where natural surface scum has built up. THESE ARE ABSOLUTE GREAT HOLDING ZONES FOR BIG CARP. bUT MY VIEW IS THAT THE ONLY FISHABLE IS WITH FLOATERS, TO AVOID LESSSNAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIGHT LINES
  5. went back to the same pond yesterday!!!!with no gear to typically find carp feeding on dog biscuits i was throwing in!!!!!! i could only do one thing sprint back and get my gear.I didnt get one in the end but they were definately feeding!!!!
  6. I have a beta box, £8 from boot fair! Love it! Anyway i have a preston catalogue and from my local tackle shop which gives you an in depth view of every product, to shots, rods and seatboxes!!!!!!!!!! SO GET DOWN YOUR LOCAL AND ASK!!!!!!!!
  7. YEP, I HAVE TO AGREE MAYBE YOU CANT ANSWER THAT QUESTION OVERALL BECAUSE DIFFERENT VENUES PRODUCE DIFFERENT OUTCOMES!!!!!!! SOME VENUES THE FISH BECOME TIRED AND BORED OF MARKET BAITS SUCH AS SWEETCORN AND MEAT SO IT PAYS FOR A MORE THOUGHT TACTIC LIKE A HAIR-RIGGED FAKE CASTER ETC........... IT REALLY DEPENDS WHERE YOUR FISHING AND WHAT FOR!!!!!!
  8. Hello, i love the joy and excitement (and frustration) of surface fishing for carp. I tried it first in a small estate pond nearby, with carp pushing twenty but it's REALLY HARD FISHING i arrived one early to blank once again!!! when to my amazement the carp where everywhere, a common which looked like a definite pb just sitting in front of me!!! i gently lowered my bait-banded piece of bread to the surface!!! i was distracted and turned around,,,,,,i turned back to see,,,,,well nothing bread gone and common slowly lowering back down into the unknown. i was quite as my pb then was just 5lb. I bent into the fish, it kited hard to my to left, heading for the same island that i got broke off by an even bigger carp!!!!! Tip under the water, i cushioned the fast rotating spool and brought the carp back into my swim, after another dive to a sunken tree on my right i finally brought the gold scaley common over the rim of my net what i used to think was massive!!!!It was just touching 11lb minus the net, 10 and a half!!!!!!! heaven i carefully let the fish glide back through the murky water!!!!!!! I really had to home i didnt have any more carp on my mind!!!!!!!! That one, was enough for me at the time i thought im not going to catch a bigger fish than that for ages but that was then!!!! AND BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!!! JOIN ME IN SUFACE FISHING HEAVEN 2, WHERE A PB FIRST CAST AND CARRY ON TO LAND 5 MORE!! THANKS FOR, SORRY IF I BORED YOU.
  9. I'VE QUITE A FEW LOVELY 4 POUNDERS NOW, REALLY DARK WITH A BROAD BODY!!! I FIND THE BEST RIG IS, 30GR DRENNAN OPEN END FEEDER,RUNNING FREE WITH COUPLE OF STOP SHOT AT HOOK END, I USE 6LB LINE AND I FIND ITS FINE TO RUN STRAIGHT THROUGH TO A SIZE 14/16 HOOK!!BAIT WISE I USE MOSTLY BROWN CRUMB MAYBE SOME WHITE, MIXED UP WITH SWEETCORN JUICE AND SOME CORN MIXED IN, WITH MAGGOTS MAYBE SOME CASTERS ETC. THEN FISH CLIPPED TO TO A TIGHT SPOT AND GET SOME BAIT OUT AND TRY MAGGOT, IF GET TIDDLER PROBLEM MAYBE CHANGE TO WORM OR SWEETCORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HOPE IT HELPS!!!!!!!
  10. I AINT EXACTLY A PROFESSIONAL,,,,,BUT I'D SAY A GOLDFISH!! GOLDEN ORFE ARE GENERALLY ALOT PALER AND STREAMLINED!! DEFO AINT A CRUCIAN CARP!!!!!!
  11. I WAS FEEDER FISHING AT OULTON BROAD(CONNECTED TO RIVER WAVENEYIN SUFOOLK),FOR SOME BREAM AND WITNESSED A FISHERMAN IN THE NEXT SWIM,SAME TACTICS AND SAME BAIT AND HE CAUGHT A 10LB MIRROR. OKAY NOT A MONSTER BUT THEY DO GO BIGGER IN THE PAST THEIRS BEEN 20'S OUT.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUT RIVER ARE HARD TO FIND, LET ALONE CATCHING THEM!!
  12. At the mo gotta be float fishing in margin on the bottom the some tench!!!! But in season a bit of stalking will be coming out the cupboard!!!!
  13. hiyaz Phil, welcome to A/N, i started fishing (coarse), last season and am fishing every minute i can. I mainly fish lakes also, i have fairly decent gear, two rods and two reels, which i use for two different types of fishing. i use my float rod/reel for targeting small carp, tench and bream on a waggler. But i also have a carp rod/reel to use for fishing on top or legering for big carp!!!!!!!!! So if i was you i'll decide first want methods and want size/species you will be targeting before you rush out and bup say a light action float rod/reel when you find out you want to fish on the bottom on big gravel pits. .....BUT DON'T BUY FROM ARGOS!!!!! HOPE I HELPED M8 GOOD LUCK!
