  1. Hi chaps, I'm thinking of going to mid Wales for a few days and I can't make up my mind if I'm going to take the inflatables for a paddle or if I should take the Malibu 2 and have a spot of Pike fishing. So does anyone know of any lakes or Res in mid wales that alow kayak fishing?
  2. Hi John, we have the Malibu 2 XL and I can't think of anything thats wrong with it. It hold two adults with comfort and a child in the middle seat, you can put storage wells in it and as far as handling goes its great. I'm 5.11 and about 10.5 stone and not built like a monster, the other half is about a size 6 and also disabled. We manage fine in our yak and have even been stupid enough to tackle 9 foot waves in the med on a few occations without any problems. You'd have to be a fool to turn it over, I've dirved off ours and its never come close to tipping over. It's also not hard to take out alone, just move one of the seats to the middle position and your away. I think you'll find you can get one with two seats and a paddle for under £500 so I'd say it's a good all round deal.

    Anchor weight?

I'm certainly no expert on anchor technique but I'd say trying to anchor side on or from the middle of the yak would be a very bad idea. If you were hit by a wave or picked up by a swell you would tip over really quick. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though

Hi Gary, we are home safe and sound, thanks for the advice about the Med, shame I didn't call you a few day's earlier. Anyhow, let us know when your in the Kent/Dartford area as we would love to join you at some point, we are off down the Medway river this weekend to chase a few Pike. Regards Gavin
  5. Hi everyone, just got back from Spain, didn't manage any fishing but did buy another Malibu 2 XL while we were there. Don't know why people think it's hard to handle, my lady is 5.3 and 7 stone and she managed 3 foot waves all on her own We did have a bit of a scare on the Med though, we ran into some very big waves I'd say they were between 6 and 10 feet, scared the pants off me but she loved it Said it was like being on Deadliest Catch lol. Gary Smith advised us not to go one the Med after 1pm but that was after we did it twice lol.. Anyhow, I'm waiting on my flush rod holders and hope to be out on the river Medway this weekend for the Pike and perch and some chub. My question today is what weight anchor should I get, I'm going to get one of those dinghy anchors or grapnel anchors; http://www.jimmygreen.co.uk/chandlery_prod...pnel_anchor.htm I think the 2.5kg will do it, just thought I'd ask the experts.
  6. Hi Mike, I had a quick look at the Kayak shop in Wrotham, very helpfull people indeed but they only had the one perception fishing kayak 11.5 foot i think, it was ok but the hatche looked a little small, I'd like to have a good look at the Ocean Kayak range I think. I did have a look at the Malibu 2 xl for Spain, very nice indeed, I'd be happy taking my mate and hi 5 year old out in that, not to sure where I will put the rod holders though, I couldn't see where I would fit flush holders. I guess a couple of Scott holders would fit somewhere. When are you likely to go to Laybourne next?
  7. Hi Mike, I don't suppose your going down any time soon, I'd love to have a look at your Kayak. I'm strugling to find anywhere local that I can see them, are there any shops near that you know of?
  8. Hi everyone, I've just just joined and I'm rearing to go So I have many questions to ask and I'm sorry if they have all been asked before but I'll read as much as I can soon enough. Ok firstly I'm looking for lakes and rivers that I can fish in the Kent area, I'm based in Dartford and the coast is a fair way off for a quick afternoon's fish so I wonderd if anyone knows any good lakes or rivers I could use a kayak on to fish. Secondly I can't make up me mind as to what Kayak to get, idealy I'd like to get a two seater and take the other half or a friend but Its most likely that I'll end up out there on my own and I'm a little concerned as to how hard it would be getting about on my own in a two seater. I'd also like to make a few friends here from my area or close by that I could go out with, so if anyone is close by please say hi. I currently have an inflatable Stearn Yakata and I use her down at Laybourne Lakes, so again if anyone wants to meet up and let me have a butchers at their boat give me a shout. I will also be getting a two seater to store at my mates place in Spain that we can use so again I'm interested in advice there to, i.e. where to purchace on in Spain. I see there is a Decathlon store in Murcia that is close to him but they don't have a great range and any tips would be apreciated. As for the type of fishing I'd like to get into, well lure fishing mainly, I've spent many moons as a Carp fisherman and need something a little more involved. As for me, well I'm 36 mental about me motor bikes, shooting and trying to get back into fishing, I see Kayak fishing as a great way to combine my hobbies. I work for the NHS in London in an IT dept as a Network Systems Analyst and can't wait to retire lol.
  9. I brought two Stearn Yukatat Kayaks last year and can honestly say they are great, very comfy, very good on the water and track well. They pack down to almost suit case size and weigh about 18kg, I got ours from the Brighton Canoe center cost about £320 I think. Not sure if they are ok for the sea, I would be happy to try one on a calm day. Pix
