  1. Hi guys I’m from Bridgend and fish Newton in the winter and Gower in the summer, Haven’t been out for a couple of months due to a house move but I have been doing this for a couple of years both in small boats and kayaks. This time of year your likely to catch dogs whiting cod and conger from Newton, just be careful of the tides, fish on an incoming tide and stay just inside the point, try and avoid the big tides. The fishing beyond the point is best, but get used to anchoring your yak first, it’s safer to fish there with a buddy. It’s like anchoring in a medium flowing river. Good luck let us know how you get on and I should see you out there some time.
  2. Hi Ive got the Vivitar ViviCam 6200W waterproof to 10m great little camera £80 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vivitar-ViviCam-Ru...6726&sr=8-1
  3. It was just to windy, NW off shore breeze out going tide my fault must of been a rush sh*t to the brain mixed with a desperation to fish
  4. Nice one Jer sounds like you had a great session , What bait where using ? I went to Oxwich on Sunday with live sand eel, It was way to windy to fish and I launched anyway like a dickhead just cause I had travelled an bought the bait. Ended up regretting that as I spent 20mins trying to get in safely stuck in the rip paddling against the wind Had a VHF and inshore pack on the yak in case thing went really wrong , if anyone reading this hasn't got that kit get it, you'll pay anything for it when you need it. Luckily I didn't need it yesterday but it was close. Wont be making that mistake again
  5. Try one of these almost the same as the apex 1 and very comftable. http://www.kayakfishinggear.com/index.asp?...&ProdID=143 Got mine in about a week from the U.S, had the same problem as you the apex 1 is like rocking horse sh*t.
  6. Great report lazyhooker, I’m going to have to have a go anchoring near the wreck only ever drift fished it. Those pout sound like a nice live bait size Every time I anchor near the boats all I can catch on the bottom is dogfish it seems like the place is carpeted with them What’s the secret ?

  9. If your looking at launching in the Porthcawl area , launch from Newton fish it from low water up. If your not comfortable with anchoring in fast tides drop in behind the point. Its good for Conger and Cod through the winter, if your looking for bass on lures you need to go west Swansea onwards much better water clarity, its worth the drive. Granted a C tug wont get over melon size boulders but its the best trolley out there at the moment and it has no problems with patches of rock and large pebbles. Hope this helps Chris
  10. C tug trolly will handle most ground quite well. Where in South Wales are you fishing?
  11. Great report Richi, when using the baited feathers are you casting them away from yak or jigging the directly below the yak ? The reason I ask is that the bass down this end seem reluctant to take baits directly under the yak, drifting with a light weight seems to bring more success. Might be something to do with water clarity. Chris

    Oxwich

Had a better day at Oxwich today , launched at 1500 come out at about 1930 fished the flood. Weather was overcast wind 15mph on the point SSW. Got straight into fish catching small pollock mackerel and about seven gurnard of varying sizes Also managed a bass this time All fish catch and release

    Oxwich

Hi Lloydus I was fishing any where from 14ft - 40ft depending on how far out I was. Its worth having a fishfinder fitted if fishing down the Gower as there are a lot of drop offs and pinnacles. Take some of the guess work out of it.

    Oxwich

Great day for fishing just not that many fish about today , fished around the point today , With about 4 boats and they werent catching much. Caught plenty of dog fish small pollock and a codling which I wasnt expecting off Oxwich. No bass did see two caught by one of the boats. Also saw some dolphins, but they were too quick to photo
  15. Respect Ive had them to 20lb on a yak and they can be a right hand full when up on the surface.
