  2. I would like to think that a good tackle shop would sort you out the right gear, if you explain what you intend to do with it. I would look for a beachcaster rod 4-6oz class (weight it will cast). 12 to 14 ft long. Make sure it is ringed for the reel you will be using, multiplier or fixedspool. There is such a wide choice nowadays and the quality at the cheaper end of the market is very good. Have a look around.Best of luck.
  3. Its probably worth a try for light boat fishing inshore. I would also suggest water thats not too deep. Its suprising how long it takes to wind in 100+ of line on a centrepin. Dan, Black Bream have been making quite a recovery along the South Coast IMO. Good catches from Brighton, Weymouth (Lulworth side) and ditto Littlehampton. All from the boat and not too far out.
  4. Nick, I thought they were all extremely good. I automatically prefer the ones with no "man made" objects in them. That land/seascape is so beautiful it doesn,t deserve man made objects. Congratulations.

  6. I,ve used Veals for many years especially for bulk buys of swivels, hooks, booms etc. Never had any problems at all and I agree the staff are very nice and DO seem to know what they are talking about. Even though I live within 30 miles of the Coast, the local Tackle Shops have a very poor selection of "end tackle", plenty of rods and reels, but no "bits".
  7. If it is a complete groundbait ban ie not even feeders, then I would sparingly feed pinkies or squatts for the smaller fish. For bream, tench and carp, I would loose feed my hookbait, sweetcorn, maggot, chopped worm etc. Its difficult to "feed off" these species. 4th out of 15, after a "slow start", doesn,t sound too bad to me.

  9. I have fished trout still waters that have had a healthy stock of tench, roach, carp and bream. No "predator" species though. There was one interesting and significant fact about this water for you to consider. With other baits going in to the fishery, the trout were almost uncatchable on flies. I suspect you can have a good "either", but not a good "both".
  10. Dragonbat, your comments were down right rude at best. We have many overseas members on this forum and we welcome their contributions and friendship. As a relatively new poster you will probably get the benefit of the doubt ,this time.

  12. Rob there is an artificial bait for crab/lobster pots. It is in a block form. One problem.........it costs money.
  13. Various additives for sea bait have been around for years. Three friends and I tested many different ideas over 2/3 years on over 35 boat trips in the UK, fishing at anchor with bait (not lures/pirks). We have marinated squid in natural oils, such as fish, crab, lobster etc. Tried to inject worms with the latest "feeding frenzy" artificial chemical. Used everything from freshwater feeders to old wasing-up liquid bottles to get "stimulants" soaked in sponge, cotton wool, cork etc, down to the "frenzied" fish. It was almost impossible to field test the efficiency of these methods. The users sometimes caught more fish, sometimes they didn,t. When we all used exacly the same bait, rigs etc, some of us caught more than the others. Sometimes the uptide rods caught more than the "droppers" ,sometimes they didn,t. Port outfished starboard and then starboard outfished port. I suspect it will always be like this, especially sea fishing. We finally lost interest in making someone else rich or performing miracles and went back to enjoying our fishing. It stopped the charter skippers having a smile as well. I think if the fish are there and you have a good natural bait, you have as much chance as the angler next to you. I can,t remember the exact wording, but its something like "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".
  14. Mike, I think you mean "lavatorial" I looked at an AT in the newsagents, then put it back on the shelf. That cod is no where near 40 lbs.
  15. I agree with fisherking, they are mandarin ducks. Cheap wooden ornaments worth about.....£2.00:D

  17. The "Anti" lobby is far better organised and financed than the various Groups they are opposed to. As has been stated previously, they have a professional salaried machine to carry out their lobbying and publicity campaigns. I find it hard to accept that they will stop and disband, if they are successful in getting hunting with dogs banned. Do you remember the poster of the labrador with the hook in its mouth?
