  1. it all depends on the type of feeder you are using, i have used the method feeder in the past and found it a spectacular style of fishing, especially if the fish have got their heads down. he best way i've found is to plumb up to get the correct depth, then i had 12-18 inches of line overdepth. then i attatched a small shot about 8 inches from the hook to keep the line down. when it was set up i had about 4-6 inches of line from the tip of the pole to the water, the bites were all fierce elastic stretchers. if you are set up correctly then there should be no need to strike as the relatively short length of line between pole tip and hook, plus the weight of the feeder, means the fish hook themselves when they bolt off. but you must remember to use strong elastics and line, i used, 10lb line with black hydro elastaic doubled up through a power top 3 and there were still some hairy moments!!!! personally i wouldn't fish this method in the winter but for late spring and summer its a real winner if you get it right. also i found a spray bar attached to my bok helped but at the end of the day its all down to practice.
  2. WHERE HAS THE DAILY QUIZ FROM FUNTRIVIA GONE? IT USED TO BE PINNED UNDER THE SETI TOPIC ON THIS PAGE.
  3. two words for you all if you surrefing from cold symptoms and can't sleep: NIGHT NURSE.
  4. I beleive the type of rod is all down to personal preference, i use a map matchtek number 2 for float fishing, good action but plenty of grunt should anything of a decent standard come along, this rod has handled carp up to 12 lbs with ease, the tip action might be to soft fpr some but i like it. For feeder fishing i chose the shimano beastmaster, 11-13 foot, it has a dolly section to extend it to its full length, it came with a 1oz, 2oz and 3oz tip, i bought 2 more a 4oz for lumping a method feeder and 1/2 oz for winter. Its more than capable of handling zoo creature type fish, the only moan about it is its a bit weighty but then you don't hold it when your feeder fishing. But as i said, its personal preference. mooserx
  5. the plec is a minature variety and will only grow to about 4 inches the rainbow cichlids are fully grown around 3 inches, the barbs have been moved to a seperate tank and the bullying parrot cichlid has been returned to whence he came with no problems.
  6. firstly, you need to be sure that the beam are present in the water you are fishing. let us know and i'm sure that advice will crop up
  7. Thought id chip in my two peneth so here goes: Motorcyclists……………….don’t you just love em??...- yes being a biker (and angler and car driver) i do make a nuisance of themselves and endanger regular road users with their silly behaviour - some do but that is a huge sweeping generalisation. motorcyclist with all the gear on weaving and ducking / diving in behind traffic - this man is a fool I decided to follow suit and not move over - why? he was gonna get past you anyway, better to let him past and have a donkey like that in front of you rather than sitting on you rear right quarter blinding you with his headlight. The mirror was smashed out of its mounting and hung down with the mirror itself cracked!!! - unlucky! The biker soon thought twice about his actions when I laid into him and consequently HIS mirrors were torn off and thrown into the adjacent farmers field and the biker parting with a bit of blood. - If that was me mr m, unfortunately you would have been wearing my helmet and not in a manner that the manufacturer had designed it for. the idiots who use them think that every other road user should move out of the way for them to pass at 100 mph!! - again anther sweeping generalisation by a car only user. I’m just waiting for the old bill to come a knocking on my door - to be honest mr m they probably won't, the biker more than likely has learnt the error of his ways. if they do , you only have yourself to blame as you did infact assault the biker and cause criminal damage to his bike, so that i'm afraid you will have to suck up. the fact he knocked off your mirror will become a moot point as you should have reported that to the police. i don't condone the actions of the said biker in this thread, in fact i think he is an ass. Bikers get a bad enough rap as it is without morons like him around, but in the same breath whatever happened to a little bit of courtesy on the road, if you can move over why not? what difference does it make to you? will it slow you down? the answer is it won;t matter to you in any way if a bike passes you in traffic. as i said i'm a biker, the bike i ride will do in excess of 180 mph, but it also does 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 mph which i believe are the speed limits on most of the roads in england. one of the joys of riding is the thrill of the speed, it is also a freedom, a feeling of being able to breakaway from sitting in queues of traffic behind old bill and mavis out for their sunday drive at 30mph, or from sitting behind farmer giles shiftting his hay from field to field for no apparent reason, this is why so many people ride bikes, it's also cheaper than running a car, better for the environment and doesn't clog up the highways and byways of the country. the closed mind and attitude of certain car drivers is the reason bikers are seen as roadway terrorists, just move over and let us get on with it.

  9. Hello to all, i am currrently running an established tropical freshwater tank of 180l. in said tank there is: 2x tinfoil barbs 2x rainbow cichlids 3x red eye tetras 1x plecostomus 1x catfish 3x blood red parrot cichlids. 1 of the parrot cichlids was added affter the other 2, (who have now become a breeding pair ) it is now trying to rule the roost and absolutely battering the female breeding parrot who is consistently hiding amongst the plants. does anyone have a suggestion as to sort out the problem of the bully????
  10. a chap called clive wright from wolverhampton won, he got through in the qualifier at the cudmore complex in newcastle under lyme.
  11. surely on the commercials there are hot pegs, especially hayfield where all the finalists of fishomania wanted a corner peg, and a corner peg won it the last 2 years, all the pundits refer to pegs 1, 5, 12 and 16 as the hot pegs on hayfield as the provide natural features that hold the fish, so surely if i am on say for example peg 7 and someone of equal ability is on peg 16, then surely he would have an advantage as he has access to a natural fish holding feature, where as muggins here is stuck facing a mass of open water
  12. try a black type of groundbait or the dynamite baits range frenzied crushed hemp. and anything fishmealy
  13. try using hemp loosefeed and casters and tares as hook baits, have the bait on a slow fall through the water by altering your shotting pattern, alternatively breadflake is a good hook bait as is small pellets.
  14. usually perch mess about with the bait before they take the float fully under, try shotting your float down as low as you are comfortable with. alternatively use a slammo type disgorger or a different bait which the little stripeys won't find as appealing
  15. thats exactly the point newt, i was wondering if due to the fact that 99.9% of the fishomania anglers fish on a commercial venue then how would they fare ona lake thats not stuffed to the gills with "f1s" or "pasties".
