  1. the local byelaws pdf won't open on the EA website...nuts...i'm getting conflicting reports now that the river in question has provision for fishing from 25th march to 10th october for trout seasoon, fishing is suspended only from 10 - 25 th march inclusive!!!! whats bloody going on? the EA don't know for sure because i've rang them back...too much bloody red tape and rules me thinks...why not just say everything is banned or nothing is banned...don't make any sense to me. so the bottom line is deffo no maggots, feeder etc...only fly/spin if it's permitted....correct?
  2. right..i rang the number i posted up in the earlier post, the very nice lady 'believes' that it is banned until 15th of june, local authorities tend to follow the national close season with regard to byelaws on non-migratory rainbow trout, obviously stillwaters is fine. thanks for advice given.
  3. cut and paste from EA website Close season for non-migratory trout (rod and line) (a) Rainbow Trout Close Season There is no annual close season for fishing for rainbow trout by rod and line in all reservoirs, lakes and ponds. In other waters the close season will be determined by local byelaws - contact your local office for these (tel - 08708 506 506). ( Brown trout close season A close season for brown trout applies to all waters, although dates vary according to local byelaws, which you can obtain from your local office (tel - 08708 506 506). i'll check....
  4. i've been invited out for a spot of fishing in a local river Sunday... now my understanding of fishing in the close season is that it's banned in all but canals or privates lakes etc. he wants to fish for "non-migratory trout" and says this is fine...? i 'm not sure, i've only been coarse fishing for a couple of months, so not entirely sure, is this a small loophole in the system? or am i being fed a tall one? would rather avoid the fine and possible confiscation of gear.
  5. cheers mate, i think i'll slow down with the buying frenzy until i actually 'know' what i need.
  6. mmmm? what better rods to have? i've bought a shimano beastmaster 9/11ft, a 'barbel' rod, a 12ft feeder rod, a tf gear float red/reel. already possess a 2.5lb t/c carp rod which is also in the bag. just like to cover all the bases with my choices of rods, i am a bit of a tart when it comes down to it. as said earlier the rod was cheap at £36, so it's not the end of the world if i don't use it that much..... i've fished the local river on a day ticket, trout(rainbow and sea) grayling and a little chub are the only things i've tempted to the bank so far with a feeder set-up, tried the stick floats and wagglers but i need more practice with that, i possess sausage fingers so it's all a bit fiddly at the moment. i'm waiting on a more experienced 'friend' to take me to the local lake/pond facility to talk me through it all...the etiquette of fishing a private lake etc. what are the essentials?
  7. specialist? why's that? i intend to have it in my bag should i need it for something.... as said i didn't have one so i bought it, it was cheap and 'seemed' like a bargain, even if i only use it occasionally. i'm just buying gear at the moment, im an experienced sea angler but there just seems so many choices in the coarse side that i'm probably buying too much of what i don't need but 'have' to have.
  8. i bought one, only for the simple reason that i didn't have one. i've only over the last couple of months got into the course fishing side of the sport so i'm just buying up 'stuff' at the moment. my question is are these rods any good? it arrived yesterday and ticks all the looks/feels boxes but is it any good?
  9. fish the cardiff bay barrage with live shrimp/prawn or ragworm see here http://www.cardiffharbour.com/barrage/info.htm bait shops are Ely Angling Supplies Ltd 572 Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff. 029-20555133 Garry Evans, 105 Whitchurch Road, Cardiff CF4 3JE 02920 619828 http://www.garryevans.co.uk/index.asp?func...PAGE&page=1
  10. are you boasting that you watch illegal/pirate copies of films at home?
  11. i'm not in the least bit jealous.
  12. i've been out on the head with the water 30ft below me and got soaked when a couple of big waves came and hit the base of the rocks. we watched them coming in from about 1/2 mile out, didn't realise how big they were until it was too late. tis very good for wrasse here up to 5lbs, just where you walk down the'path' at the side of the fence, near the lighthouse. don't fish here with an onshore wind with a big tide, you will get wet or even worse. fish around the corner in the bay(mother ivys) sheltered from the wind and a tidy bass mark.
  13. from another convert to freshwater and from wsf, congrats on the fish and the report.
  14. sounds like you had a cracking day out.
  15. my fault, should have mentioned i'm living a couple of miles north of Cardiff. 500 yards from the river taff, i know this part is day ticket - £4, from M4 bridge into cardiff bay, (for the locals).updated profile a bit now, well, as much as it will let me. bought h.t.i. coarse fishing today, gulp!! lots more to it than i thought. sea fishing is a big bait and hit and hope kind of thing. don't really mind catching anything, apart from trout and salmon they're under enough pressure without my feeble attempts at catching them. lol. i have some lighter gear, the TF matt hayes float fishing kit is on order, i possess a 2 1/2lb test curve carp rod, an 11ft bass/estuary rod and a couple of small spinning rods, so i think i'm pretty covered to start with there, i think !!! match/quiver type rod required ??? local tackle shop it is then, bend their ears with some sensible and no doubt, some stupid questions. thanks all. especially for the invite
