  1. Probably because if you have licenced sea fishermen there is a responsibility to 100000 licenced sea fishermen as stakeholders?
  2. Theres no conservation goin on here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7104120.stm Just some well paid adults behaving like pre schoolers over a bag of boilies. You can have 5% of the original population left, trawl half of it and fool the public thats theres enough for another spawn only to see a Cod crash. We could drop that to 20000 tonnes but I dont think thats goin to help the Cod.
  3. Rather than using a USB stick especially 4Gig, nice, maybe use a crossover cable as stated above or if its possible a USB data cable between the two? Maybe keep the 4 Gig stick as a back up medium? And of course you have backed up onto a DVD as wells o you dont rip your hair out when that vital data goes down?
  4. That explains why the representatives were very careful about what they said? Given the technology on boats like sounders, GPS you would think that they know its a waste of time before putting the net down and driving through schools of fish dragging the net along the bottom destroying all the habitat then tipping the obvious tonne of fish and 4 prawns on the deck? The fish were obviously more alive when he dumped on the fish on the deck? For 6 prawns wouldn't it be just smarter to dump the net straight back in the water? This obviously points to , A. 6 prawns stop the prawn season and there will be more fish for the public? B. Redistribute the total allowable catch? C. Take what they like and the government takes the consequences from the public when theres no chippy because the place ends up a desert? Personally I cant believe the arrogance of the commercial operator? Personally Id like to thank the commercial operator demonstrating how destructive this type of fishing is. He however didnt show the dead fish that doesn't go to market that he has been throwing back in the water for years.
  5. I thought trawlers had been redesigned to allow fish escape? Does this demonstrate how much damage trawlers do? What about the fish they don't want to send to market? So little prawns so much fish? Have they caught them all?
  6. This sounds great. Does anyone produce literature on handling of Pike?
  7. Just been reading the article. http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/News/dorset_st...rbel_boost.html Fantastic stuff. Great to see people doing work to improve environmental stability of fish stocks. Does anyone have a link to the colour tag technology?
  8. I recall reading about camera phones changing the world in a technology magazine. If you see something fishy like people netting your local lake then take photos of the incident and more importantly photos of the vehicles with emphasis on the number plates. Report the incident to people who can take it further. With the dramatic reduction in the cost of technology I'm surprised more clubs and associations haven't taken on CCTV technology to apprehend poachers? Some cameras can utilise both infrared and day colour sending the footage wireless back to a recorder, even viewed in a web browser from any computer. Taking fish is one thing, selling it is another.
  9. This guy rocks http://www.cudafly.co.uk/acatalog/FlyTyingKits.html You probably can see what comes with it. He shows some proved flies on the site including competition winners. There is some fly tying instructions on the site. He also deserved of some attention. Beware of purchasing fly materials. Theres different grades and quantities of materials. You can also purchase 60 flies cheap as on E-bay but the hooks can be less than desirable not to mention some of the flies. If you find a supplier that intends long term business its in their best interest that they provide value for money. Something about the owner of the store that you see less of these days. He actually fishes.
  10. So Russia is on the verge of collapse and anarchy with imminent collapse of the country within 10 years?
  11. Tools >> add ons >> find updates Not all add ons work with new versions or are playing catch up
  12. One fish notably the Western Australian Jewfish or Dhufish in the immediate metro area has declined a lot in populations. Studies show that average size of capture has dropped also significantly. The commercial sector is very small in this area as the fishery is not profitable for them due to overfishing from both sectors. Really its not a massive sacrifice for whats already stuffed. Have a look at the sacrifices the recreationals have taken on board over the past decade compared to the commercial sector. This decision has taken a decade to implement. Many people still report good captures though in many cases a Biomass shrinks with all seeming quite well then it crashes. The Jewfish is a very slow growing fish with a high mortality rate especially as depth increases. It suffers high rate of air embolisms and doesn't recover unless sent to its precapture depth with say a release weight. Dont worry the commercial sector basically runs/dictates the WA fishery. Recreationals have taken massive concessions over the past 15 years to improve their fishery. Next is a saltwater license for demersal species. A full license for fresh/abalone/lobster and demersal will be around 80 quid and more quota limits of say 1 Dhufish per person an already minimum size limit of 550mm.
  13. My girlfriend booked a ticket to Ireland. On Arrival Im slugged an extra 11 squids for my fishing rods each way. We queued politely for some time only to have the departure gate number changed and like panicked goats people climbed over barriers to another queue then after another delay we are told that we are in the priority queue and need to go to another gate isle. The arrival landing we were slammed down onto the runway and several people shook their heads at the spine tingling crunch that occurred. The worst landing Ive experienced. When I was stepping off the plane I noticed the luggage handler end bounce my 1000 squids of rods on the tarmac to another handler. Never have I seen such a disorganised company of such poor service. Never ever again with them. My girlfriend and I also made the mistake of combining our luggage which went over by 2 kilos even though our individual luggage weight was almost half the requirement. There is no discression just sting the customer as much as you can once they get there. I was disgusted. Getting close to another air ticket for a 1300mm x 65mm rod tube. Ive learnt my lesson. Cheap flights mean expensive crap service.
  14. The paralysis paradigm phenomenon of new navigation structure usually throws people especially the demographic of fishermen who now probably know more about true forum discussion than most being one of the most discussed sports on the Internet. I remember when my local website ditched their old pearl based forum which wasn't handling the visitor hits for a new one written in Dot Net based ASP. It was however an Key turn application. The users hated but its bread crumb navigation structure followed similar lines of the old and other fishing forum sites. Some left for a while but once the core visitors gained userbility knowledge it exploded with as many as "Most Community Members ever online at one time was 711" real users at one time. In one week 400000 hits occurred at one stage. That is good considering the target market is the size of liverpool. Given this site has gone to an out of the norm navigation system it will be interesting to see what happens. Keep in mind you can see all the Discussion Genre on one page. 2 things count in forums, todays/new posts and speed. BB2 PHP is ok but it ain't the best.
  15. Me too with the same result, however antiseptic washing must is easier and no yukkies absorbed into the material along with no knots to damage the fish. I was also a little disappointed that the rubber stops in the telescopic pop out when the pole is pushed back in and the end stop rolls down the bank and into the water. Still a good net and pole. It dries quick to put in the bag or car hence also less lingering bad stuff. Rinsing at home in a bucket rids the coating elft on the net from carp etc. A more feasible answer is barb crushing which stops barbs catching material making lure disentanglement lots lots easier!
  16. Whoops double post but yes your right pride shouldn't go out the window. I live in a good example of that. There is some old towns with no rubbish but nothing went to waste. Brown paper bags were expensive. Bring back a deposit on packaging and watch the cool drink cans disappear off the streets. We need a good depression to snap everyone back into realty?
  17. The good ol days where a working man couldn't afford fishing gear, there was little rubbish because there was little or no packaging. There was no social security. No NHS. No public housing. Imagine being sent to Australia for stealing a loaf of bread. Your point is taken about the rubbish but things are no different in other countries unless they chop your hand off or send you to jail for having chewing gum. Jail is just too easy these days. Take out the televisions and bring in smashing rocks and they'd be empty over night. Any country with a death penalty for drug dealing seems to have low drug usage. Imagine children in a depression today. I love it when you have fat people on television saying they have no money. Bring back the whip! Postcards don't exactly have rubbish in them. The law has gone soft. "Harden the f*** up Australia" ~ Chopper Read ~
  18. Grab some 60lb single strand wire, a barrel sinker and a treble Haywire twist treble onto wire then pass through the barrel sinker and haywire twist loop other end. shift barrel sinker to forward loop and smash barrel lead flat (within reason, not too much , should be just flat shiny sides) with hammer and use when shiny. Smash again if it goes shiny. Theres all sorts of variants on that such as red fur around hook or 5 pence spinner etc etc.. One baitfish casting lure for bass or jigging lure for Pollock etc.
  19. Depends on the line class, the fish you are fishing for and the ground you are fishing. If you are fishing for largish fish on light line then it pays to use a leader. ::Say 8lb line using 16lb leader for largish Pike in open water If your are fishing around grounds where say there are eg:zebra mussels or rock, reef on light line then maybe use a leader. ::say 10lb line and 20lb leader where there maybe mussel encrusted pylons or rugged rock drop offs If you are using heavy lure on light then you probably want to use a casting leader. ::say 8lb line and a 16lb casting leader for a heavy plug to absorb inertia If your trolling a lure in a boat and suing a wind on leader to gain control of the fish when it nears the boat preventing the line to snap ::Say ocean trolling with 20lb and a 100lb wind on to bring a Spanish mackerel to and in the boat by the leader Leaders can do a number of things: Prevent wear from fish (beaks, teeth), rocks, mussels, reef, structure Absorb shock from casting, fish strikes Gain control of fish with the same weight or larger than the breaking strain of the main line Using braid a leader in fluorocarbon can provide less visibility of the line to the fish and prevent cut injuries from the braid to angler and fish. Twisted leaders tend to provide much greater absorption, good for braid but can create unnecessary drag if used for deep water bottom fishing.
  20. The concept of circles is purely that the hook is designed to hook through the jaw hinge. Given circles are an automatic hook dead baiting is a perfect scenario because the fish hooks its self. The hardest part with circles is not to strike. If you strike with a true circle then you'll pull the hook out of the fishes mouth. Basically the fish swims off and if the circle is set up right probably best in hair rig type and you pick up the rod and gently lean into the fish with a solid hook up that wont pull. Less potential missed hook ups while your in the chair. You can also sight cast baits and let the fish hook its self. Setting up the right rig will be the key taking into consideration that the majority of baits will be eaten head first. So the fish are better off with reduced injury, easier to release and set up correctly more hook ups while seated. Just don't strike the fish, let it hook its self.
  21. No worries. So circles work well. Must be heaps easy to unhook them than trebles. How do you rig circles to a bait? One through the eye of a dead bait or through the gob? Braid loops to rig live baits?
  22. The next thing anglers do is go to larger breaking strain line which the fish have more of a tendency to see hence less bites especially when surface fishing in a fish educated pond. When you are surface casting to Carp or have dry fly on for trout the bloke next to you gets all the bites because the fish are less sceptical of the line. With thinner line you gain distance, higher accuracy and less chance the fish will see the line. Ideally 13lb line can knock over a 20lb carp with the drag/ clutch set at 40-60% of the breaking strain line. So at say 6-8lb the line will pull off the drag. You can step up to 20lb line if theres snags that Carp are going to drag you into but a greater chance you will lose casting distance and less chance an educated carp will eat you bait. I fish 10lb braid with a 5 metre 12lb fluorocarbon leader with the clutch set at 60% using lubed uni knots on a small rod and know over plenty of good 20lb Carp. 23. Uni Knot Grogs animated knots >> The Uni Knot Make sure use spit to lubricate mono or fluoro carbon as dry knots tying reduces line strength by half Hence 4lb line becomes 2lb breaking strain If tying a double uni say to a leader you need to say double the main line to the leader size. Say 2x6kilo equals a 15 kilo cast leader. You end up with 2 diameters the same by doubling the main line. Ultimately tying a double for a join to a casting leader you can use a spider hitch but anything serious you want a bimini which provides 100% knot strength. If you use a poor knot you are reducing your breaking strain by half say 20lb becomes 10lb. Im still committed that a uni supplies some of the best knot strength without line class breaking strain loss given its lubricated with spit. Check out knot breaking strengths as some have only 50% of the line strength So you tie a poor strength knot -50% no lubrication (spit) - 50% your in a bit of trouble. I noticed a "lot" of young anglers tie clinch knots but don't lock them as explain them as the improved or locked clinch. The clinch an easy knot but not locked is as good as pointless. It lets go really easy. It is important to lcok the knot. Thats why many see the big one get away.
  24. It would depend on the rating of the blank. If you over load the blank with the casting weight including the bait you will be snapping line. You will also attain less distance than a properly balanced outfit. If I'm not chasing fish over 5 kilos then 6 kilo line with a 30lb 15 foot casting leader will get distance with ample grunt and plenty of fun to get a fish in off a beach without too much reefy/rocky stuff. Even then the casting leader serves the purpose of avoiding a bust off via abrasion. Try bait casting with 20lb mono then 12lb mono and look at the extra distance you attain even without a casting leader. Obviously other factors like under spooling shortens casts. Over spooling forms those beautiful loops that make that wicked cracking sound as you send you sinker to Mars or killing someone in the park with a 110g hand grenade. 10 kilo makes you feel safer about catching a fish but it ain't half as much fun as 6 kilo. Having a rod blank out of balance is like putting a weight 10 fly line on a weight 4 fly rod. You end up fighting it rather than achieving the desired result. So 10 kilo is fine without a casting leader if you aren't casting hand grenades. Wash your line with freshwater when you get home and much less snap crack pop with mono. As for decent braid one tackle shop dealer left it on the roof of his shop in Australia for a year then retested with little change in breaking strain.
  25. Many anti vandal coatings consist of a protective hard coating and a wax based sacrificial coating. It may well be wax that rather than grease.
