  1. often wodered if camo works ,we shop in aldershot and you could spot camo`d squaddies a mile away ,mind you there harder to see know ,is it better camo or less squaddies ,i think the later now the gurka`s have gone ,is there a surplus of matching green jackets , sleeping bags and thermos flasks (its what they all carried) maybe folkestone is now benefitting in increased sales
  2. when we were touring last year i bought a rod reel bundle for a very good price from a southcoast tackle shop (lots of people will disagree with it) but i served me all the year and is still working now (my brother uses it) just a cheap 12ft 4-6oz rod and a fixed spool for under £50 ,it will at least get you going whilst you upgrade to a more respectable set ,second hand is fine if you know what your getting so take a seasond angler with you if you go down this path ,best of luck
  3. just had a happy day after months (18)of playing with my broken metal detector i have finally repaired it (digital electronics not my forte ) but in the interval between breaking it and now, the land owner who`s land i used to detect on has died (old next door neighbour )and my son has upset the other one  by getting drunk with his son and borrowing the family car (my son was the passenger) and parking it "through" the back of the garage (luckily a wooden one) so best to let them cool down for a while are there any land owners in the hants/ surrey area that would let me play in their fields ( must be landowners not tenants for legal reasons) the usual 50/50 pact applies and i dont leave gates open nor holes big enough to notice . i am not the chesters you see here but a realy nice chap and i even wash
  4. Something you probably don't know Newt - it is illegal to have an electric wall socket in the bathroom in the UK (unless it's a special one for razors). My wife couldn't understand it when she moved over here, until I pointed out that 240 volts in the bathroom with all that water probably wasn't a good idea. so to use an electric fire that you balance on the side of the bath an extension lead is reconmended
  5. ah but ice displaces more water than water if it didnt it would sink, compare the displacement before and after its melted i said boudica ,but henry was "ok" he provided most of the building stone from waverly abbey in the area also note how many "coastal" forts etc are now miles inland ,the city that cleopatra was taken to (once a coastal city) is now miles from the sea , england is tilting anyway (look at reculver) and the vanished medievel villages on the east coast you might get wet feet on the east coast but it would be be "back to normal" on the west maybe weve had an unaturally cool spell and now are heading for the "norm" [ 25. 6. we go so peeved of with pier fishing we bought ourselves large kiddies inflateables and tootled about at variose south coast venues about 300 yards out (and further) much less hassle (untill you drop your fag) lots of fun most of it spoild when we went onto real boats and trailors etc then mooring fees winter refits ,public landing slips ,ah the nievety of the times
  7. used to fish at the breakwater 30 years ago (boat out in the morning back at night) lots of fish but LOADS of anglers ,lost plenty of tackle in tangles with other anglers ,went there a few times but found it very frustrating being shoulder to shoulder ,went to folkestone pier instead ,caught little but at least you could cast
  8. where does these facts come from. "Global warming" ? compared to the last ice age indeed we are warming up ,seeing as it was 10 thousand years ago how do we know it isnt cooler now than the period between the last ice ages  "ozone layer" seeing that the "hole" was only noticed recently (geologicly)how do we know it wasnt 10 times bigger in the past and now its small  "aging population" if the "age" increase is based on now and say victorian times is the child death rate taken into consideration ,in the bible it says "3 score years and 10" my mum died at 59 my dad at 69 none of them even reached the biblical criteria  "melting ice caps" seeing as ice displaces more water than water if all the "floating " ice melted the level would drop ,all the ice on land would cause a rise but the weight released from the land masses would cause it to rise allowing more room (seabed wise) for the water  "polution" seeing that a 100 years ago all fires ,power stations?? and other forms of energy provision (steam engines ,trains etc) were coal fired ,how is there more polution now than then (cars are more abundant but surly car = coal fire the car is cleaner)if there was a comparison how many cars would we have to own per household to equal the polution output of the coalfire in each household  and are volcanoes taken into concideration lots of volcanoes = lots of airborn polution "more choice" surely we can choose only whats for sale ,can i get tesco crisps in sainsbury ? no ,not so much choice then "inflation" if our council tax rises by 11% and rent rises by 14% ontop of the other "rises" why is the inflation rate quoted at less than 2% ,if i had a payrise of the rate of inflation i would be getting a pay cut in real terms (good luck to the firemen) shades of the seventies creeping in  at least i would only be officially unemployed 3 days a week [ 25. 9. Na i always have a "real" fire ,the chimney was built so even a chimmney brush couldnt go round it ,we swept it with a 2lb weight on a rope with a big bundle of holly tied in the middle ,i pulled up my mrs pulled down ,result a clean chimney and a sooty wife ,maybe he stopped for a sarnie the "new" house has a gas fire ,very old and very ugly "usual council back boiler type" we have just changed suppliers ,this morning had the final bill from the old firm ,had a shock on reading it £456 on looking at the meter realised it had been read wrongly (by a strange pointing machine) and it had added a 4 instead of a 3 in the thousand range how many other wrong readings are going on  [ 25. 12. there was a sighting about 100yds away from our old house , one night we heard a very large animal running across our roof (we lived in a large bungalow with several roofs and flat roofs) from one end to the one we were sitting in whatever it was jumped off and we distinctly heard it hit the ground ,there was nothing in the garden (the end it landed in) and whatever it was jumped a six foot wire fence ,on investigation there were several broken tiles and deep scratches on others
  13. I haven't been fishing for months. A little man appeared in our lives and I've been spending time with him and his mother. A future fishing buddy I hope! not napoleon (again) i thought i was charlie drake once

  19. i can record a movie in wmm using a usb connected camera but it defaults to audio only and i have to enable audio + vid on the record screen ,if it see`s your cam on the record page then it should work ,if not your probably using firewire or another connection and the answer lies with the card ,sorry i cant help further because mine works
  20. william wallace is a strange choice  did he do anything unfortunatly our hero`s of the second war are written out of history as it may offend our "friends" the germans (dont mention the war) it would have been easier to sub divide it into greatest scot, english ,welsh and ni person after all in royalist eyes cromwell was a traitor and in ireland a mass murderer its a sign of the times that a minor celebrity singer /promotist comes above someone like jethro tull which changed peoples lives (no not THAT jethro)
  21. if they are catching carp the best way to find out how is to talk to them leave your stuff at home and take a stroll round and have a chat ,if they bring in a bait have a peek at how its presented etc, as for the larger fish ,maybe your fishing to shallow or the bait is being intercepted before the bigguns can get it ,try putting the shot nearer the bait so it falls through the water quicker and plumb the swim and fish on the bottom ,use a bigger bait helps and chucking a handfull of freebies to one side of where your bait will be just before you cast should draw the greedy ones away so your bait gets to the bottom
  22. here where you should be http://www.fica.com/site/html/services/tro...bleshooting.asp
  23. cant find them on the web (is it a laptop),if not compare the psu to your modern machine ,for years the psu`s have been off the shelf units and seem to be the same shape ,if its a really old machine modern psu`s can be put inside the old psu boxes ,if its an unusuall shaped psu you could (with help ) turn a modern psu into an external one by lenghthening the leads , if it uses unusuall voltages then indeed a door step it is
