  1. Getting back to the origional post, that is one impressive mullet. Have tried on a few occasions to catch mullet a quarter of that size with no success. I'm sure Matt did catch with rod & line but even so rod & line or net, record or not, that is a great fish. Good on you. The mullet was put back. No harm done. Nobody got hurt. Life goes on. The angry boat owner should just get over it, he was exploiting Matt anyway. £25 for 5hrs work. Has he heard of minimum wage?
  2. Finally did it. Of all the methods I found that pouring hot water on the female end then with two of us pulling & rocking at the same time, it eventually came out. Must have filled up 30 kettles though & have probably lost half a stone trying, which wasn't a bad thing in my case. Seriously though guys, thanks for all the advise. I'm sure I would have given up days ago if it hadn't have been for all your good ideas & then I would have had to put a hold on my beach fishing until I'd saved up for another rod, & suckered up to the wife.
  3. Tried with hot water over the female side of the spigot then pulling & I am slowly but surely getting it apart. Tried the knee method but kept falling over. Might be best done sober. Perhaps might have it done by the time I go on my planned beach session later this month, & slot it back together again. I've been told to rub the male end with pencil graphite or candle wax to stop it sticking next time. Don't know if thats good advice!
  4. Not tried the knee method. Will give it a go. Tried taking out the bottom bung but no good. Tried with a mate twisting, pulling, you name it. Describes on the booklet that comes with the rod that it has a " strong spigot joint. " You're not bloody joking. Still I'll try what suggested & look at the site mentioned, cheers.
  5. Not tried removing the bung. Will try it tomorrow, you know, give my sore hands a rest & let you know how it goes. As for the marigolds, any preference to colour, I hear the pink ones give a better grip!
  6. I was wandering if anyone could offer any advise. I have recently decided to try my hand at a bit of beach fishing. Having only fished off rock marks I thought I needed to get a bit of new gear so I bought an Imax 4 stroke 6, carbon 2 section 13ft 2in rod. Trouble is I put it together to get a feel for it & like a numpty pushed the sections together a little too firmly, although not to the mark, & now I just cannot pull the sections apart. I'm stuck with a full length rod which god knows how I'm supposed to transport around. I've never known rod sections to be so tight, or is that the deal with beachcasters. Don't know if I should have but I've tried WD down it & no good. 2 of us have tried twisting in opposite directions, pulling in opposite directions, but nothing. Please, any advise. My hands are red raw.
