  1. Ok fair enough on very narrow, very shallow stretches as per those photos a large number of canoes coming through would be disruptive but i would be surprised if that would happen often enough to be more than a once in a blue moon occurrence. I just think that if canoists and anglers show a bit of consideration for each other there's no need to make an issue out of it
  2. I have no problem at all with canoes/kayaks being able to use every stretch of river as long as they are safe to do so, ive fished on a part of the river that gets quite a bit of traffic at certain times of year and it was never a much of a problem. Some people just like to moan and be divisive in my opinion.
  3. The first method i was taught was float fishing, first on the basingstoke canal and then trotting on the wey, it was then that i was shown how to use a feeder set up and got my first quivertip Ive never been a carp fisherman firstly because it seemed too expensive and also very boring. That being said I would like to try it properly at some point but i much prefer being mobile by the river than stationary beside a lake (at least in this weather!) come winter i might be happy to wrap up in realtree and get back in the bivvy lol
  4. £3.60 a pint here but i use a two pint box and they are usually pretty generous pints lol
  5. I should have said it in my previous post but the question is flawed in the first place as we didnt evolve from chimpanzees but we did share a common ancestor with them. At some point our shared ancestors were divided and some evolved along the path that lead to humans and some along the path that lead to chimps.
  6. There is most likely a number of reasons for the change, at a guess a change in habitat most likely being one. Many primates are tree dwelling for food and safety from predators when our ancestors moved to the ground our upper body strength was less important. The use of tools also probably had some influence down the line i would have thought. Don't forget chimps are just as evolved for their natural habitat as we are
  7. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161061527141 Just saw this and was going to bid but it is collection only from derby :/ could be a bargain if you're local!
  8. Im not sure exactly which hooks they are, i think they are drennans i have a mix of 22's up to 12's they have a straight eye and are barbless.
  9. Im going to pick up some new line and a different hook pattern today as the line i have is pretty old, any suggestions in this area would be very welcome the fish in the pond go into mid-doubles max most are more in the 5-10lb range. When it comes to the hook pattern i was thinking of getting one withh a wider gape and an angled eye but any advice on that would also be welcome
  10. I do think it was a lot to do with the heat because it did pick up little from about 7:30, I think i might try chubbing on the wey If i go fishing again this week because it really is a waste of time at the ponds, thanks for the tips though they will definitely be used again!
  11. Well im back here with a tiny pre-loaded float andalternating between flake and corn started of slow so i scaled down and im now catching nothing but lkttle roach lol
  12. yeah i think thats what i'll try and do this evening, hopefully this morning would have been worthwhile just to pre-bait the swim
  13. I know, i know but that was my second blank there in a row, which didnt help when a young lad fishing there with his dad kept running up the bank to tell me about the 20+ fish he had caught from the other end of the pond I think i might need fishing lessons lol what REALLY rubbed the salt in though was just as i was packing up a big carp started swimming around in front of my peg hoovering up the freebies i had thrown out... I am tempted to head back over for a couple of hours this evening to see if i can snag the same spot...
  14. I did think that as well but i walked around a couple of times and havent seen a single fish on the top except the odd little roach fl y catching
  15. Im using a flat back method feeder with a hair rig. Fake corn on the hair with a no.6 shot to sink it im using a mixture of method mix and 2mm pellets on the feeder and offering the odd few bits of corn/pellets in between casts. Any suggestions would be very gratefully recieved i did think about fishing off the top but its only aboyt 4-5 feet deep and i thought my bait would tempt them down that far
  16. The swim might also be popular because of the fish holding features under water, if for example its a silty lake but there is a nice patch of gravel in front of that swim its likely to hold fish and be better for bait presentation maybe
  17. Thanks ayjay if the ducks aren't being a pain i'll give that a whirl! maybe slacken off the drag so they dont steal my rod lol The fish there look like they go to maybe mid-doubles is a 6lb line to light for that or just about ok if I let them tire out enough?
  18. Cool I'll give it a whirl at the weekend, how long should I give it between casting and checking the bait and recasting? I know that its likely to be longer than my usual method would every 30 mins be ok? obviously providing there's been no activity.
  19. Thanks for the reply I think we have crossed wires, I used to be more successful on the river but now im fishing a local pond Im trying to avoid the roach and attract the bigger fish small carp/tench/bream.
  20. (Sorry this is a long post ) Hi, I've recently dusted off the fishing tackle and been heading back out regularly to the local spots and im having difficulty catching anything of note. The trouble is, when i was taught how to fish on the river wey, I was shown how to trot, and how to fish from the bottom with a feeder and almost exclusively fished with red maggots! So when it came to fishing some new(ish) ponds nearer to home I tried to adapt what i knew to float fish with the bait on the bottom and feeding regular free offerrings all i got was small roach pestering me. HAving approached other anglers i was urged to switch to corn/bread as there are some carp and bream in there so i took some corn and bread and headed down there for the day. I had been watching plenty of youtube videos so already thought i was going to give matt hayes a run for his money lol. First of all before setting up i walked around to see if i could spot any activity and in the middle of the lake there were black shadows of carp just under the surface, the weather was warm but overcast and the sun was still lowish. There was also plenty of activity near the reeds and yellow flags around the margins So i picked a spot with some good cover but with a decent spot to land any fish i might catch and a point from which i could pretty much access all of the active spots i had seen from my recce. First off i thought the conditions might be right to try and get some breadflake taken off of the surface so i sent out some freebies and they were instantly by about 20 roach. I set up my rod with a small float and breadflake on the hook. cast out and the roach devoured the bread leaving the hook dangling uselessly. I reeled in and sent out another cast with some crust on and the same thing happened only it took a little longer. I sent out more freebies and this time it brought in the ducks! I decided eventually to move to a swim on the opposite side between an overhanging tree branch and some rushes and from this vantage point i could see at least a half-dozen decent sized fish milling around. I sent out some more freebies and lots were taken by roach again but the occasional carp took the offerings as well. Having been bothered by the ducks already i didnt want to sent out too many flakes I i sent out a mixture of a little flake with some rolled up bread boilies and corn hoping to make a slow-falling column of bait that would tempt them down and use a leger to fish off the bottom. I tried corn on the hook, bread, corn and bread and I did get a few nibble but nothing positive enough to strike. The times i did strike i had nothing and the bait had gone. I must admit i dont feel confident fishing with bread and corn I know the fish love it (especially the bread) but im not confident in presenting it right. I try to disguise the hook and leave the point exposed usually using 2 corn kernels or pinching some flake around it but I had my first blank and went home thinking that i hadnt really learned anything that day lol It was so frustrating seeing the fish there and eating but not being able to present my bait to them correctly. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
  21. any that are big and really, really stupid! stupid enough to be caught with my inept tactics lol
