  1. I've been thinking about getting a new carp rod lately and noticed this rod, for £49.99 the rod looks good and the fact you get a second completely free is great but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these? I was looking at the 2.5lb rods. Here is the link by the way: Banshee Carp Rod Thanks
  2. Sounds like an albino grass carp surely? Im guessing it was from a lake? The grassies i have caught often act pretty calm until they reach the net then go crazy!
  3. So yesterday i finally had a chance to fish for some bullheads, rain had stayed away for a week so my local ford should of return to normal flow. I left home at around 4 in the afternoon as i was only planning to fish for a maximum of 2 hours. This was my chosen swim and pleasingly it looked normal which was good: Tackle was as simple as it goes, small section of whip with 1.1lb line straight through to a size 20 hook (currently dont have anything smaller) with a bb to keep steady in the flow a couple of centimetres from the hook. For bait i brought along brandling worms and red wool. I snipped off a tiny section of worm and began placing it by likely looking rocks to no avail. I decided to get into the water and carefully lift rocks up to have a look for my fish, after awhile i found a lovely big bullhead under a breeze block, just as i was to lower my bait a motor biker needed me to move my bag which i stupidly left obstructing the bridge. Returning back to the water i found the fish gone but after a short while i came across another smaller specimen, i lowered the bait in right next to its mouth and got an instant take, FISH ON! the fight was pathetic (no disrespect to the fish) merely because of its size and the fact all i had to do was lift it clear and it was landed. On the bank it didnt look huge but none the less it was a new rod and line caught species for me! On the scales (my mums kitchen scales) it went 6g, a lovely little fish indeed. He was swiftly returned to the water and back under his same rock making sure to put it back into its correct position, shortly after i lost a smaller fish when lifting it clear of the water and it didnt help the fish being more interested in the shot than the bait. With home time drawing near i opted to try the breeze block again where i had spotted the leviathan earlier on. Under inspection a smaller fish lay in residence and after snaffling the worm a pb equalling 6g millers thumb was released to fight another day. All in all a thouroghly enjoyable session of just over an hour, next week may see me after 3 spined sticklebacks or maybe a stone loach which eluded me yesterday, hope you enjoyed reading the catch report! thanks.
  4. Whilst in Chemistry yesterday i was using the very fine detail scales and thought about these smaller species, doesnt Dennis Flack use very sensitive chemistry scales for his mini species? The majority are really expensive but a quick search on ebay brought these up for less than a tenner from hong kong, granted not as sensitive as most but for that price not bad: Chemistry Scales These could serve well for this style of fishing surely?
  5. Now just to save 4500 dollars, i wonder how many weeks of EMA and working a shift a week as a potwasher will that take me conditions are alot better today and if i can i might get down to the stream to take a look, hopefully it wont be too high from the recent rain and snow.
  6. I was hoping to have a walk down to the stream today after school but the snow is falling pretty heavily so that wont be happening. I have this Sunday off work as the Saturday is my 18th and i thought i might be a bit hungover so decided to have it off. If im feeling fine then i might go and give the sticklebacks a go. If that fails i can think of a small pool in some fields not too far from home which could house something small. Good luck on your trip to Kenya, one day i want to visit the Amazon to catch my dream fish, a Piraiba! Wanted to cach one for years!
  7. Thanks Vagabond i was hoping you would post here seeing as you seem to be the master at catching those most forget about. The only thing like the pole you mention that i have is a small whip, would use 1 or 2 sections of that do? Also what time of year would you recommend? I know a stream within half a mile of my house with sticklebacks in it, and i know a ford about a mile from that with bullheads housed there. Hopefully i can have a little adventure one weekend and add to the species list! Hi Elton, I really appreciate the offer if your sure then i would love to take you up on it, cheers!
  8. Thanks for all the replies! I had noticed that thread, that ten spined stickleback is lovely that sort of fish would make my day! Hopefully i will be able to catch some tiddlers. Also if anyone else is interested in the smaller species then i would recommend "The Little Book of Little Fishes" its a lovely book with great illustrations!
  9. Hiya thanks for that, i knew that method worked but can really count it as properly caught on rod and line? im guessing you can but say you caught a record fish in this way would it count when no hook is actually used?
  10. Hello I have decided that once it warms up a bit I fancy adding 2 or 3 fish to my list of captures. Instead of my usually Chub and Perch I would like to try some local streams for 3 spined Sticklebacks, Bullheads and possibly Stone Loaches. My question is what size hooks do you suggests? I thought I might use squats, pieces of redworm and bloodworm so would i need hooks around the 24 size? I fancy getting a pen fishing rod for messing about with little fish and would fill the reel with 1lb line and simply freeline the baits past rocks were the bullheads will be lying up and through the shoals of sticklebacks. If anyone has any tips then they will be gratefully received. Thank you.
  11. i will deffinately sign it, i think it should be kept to give the fish a rest and let them breed in peace.
  12. Well it honestly isnt as rude as it can sound . Basically when i was probably around 10-11 my cousin took a picture of me and for some reason drew onto it making me into a pirate, he gave me the name of Captain Pelvis and it just sort of stuck. Im 17 now so i dont greet people as it i much prefer to be called Pete. Thanks for the kind words, i couldnt find the fish easily that day so decided on a new feature to try so i guess you can say it worked . I have been fishing since i was about 3 and i have been brought up fishing some what traditionally, ive never used a boilie in my life so when i fish for carp its usually bread, meat or corn. I also dont use pellets that much but have began using them more and more. My dad doesnt use such things so i never did too yet i still get decent catches so until the day i stop having fish on more traditional baits im leaving the boilies in the tackle shop .
  13. dont worry i dont mind you fishing it on the 16th. come to think of it i think i have my AS exams around then so your welcome to it, if you want any info on what works best for me then pm me as i would like to keep the spot fairly quite if you know what i mean
  14. cheers for the kind words, we met at peatling lakes once. i reckon however that the swim at the very top of the fishery may hold fish bigger than these, i believe there have been 5lb chub and 3lb perch from it. Well if you really want to fish it June 16th then it will just be you as it really is too small for two people to fish at once, looks like i may have competition for the chub thanks for everyones kind words also.
  15. i wouldnt usually want to but the fact that it was the last day i wanted to fish two rods and using the bite alarm allowed me to fish the swim next to it with a float.
