  1. I have recently been given an Allcock 'Sapper' split cane fly rod by my father. Whilst most of my angling is of the saltwater variety, I am keen to try my hand at fly fishing in the reservoirs and small rivers of the Isle of Man where I live. I would like some advice on a reel to match the 'Sapper' in terms of its age, the rod type and the fishing I've mentioned. I should say that I am a complete novice at Fly Fishing, but as I said, I'd like to give it a try and this seems like a good opportunity. I wold welcome any thoughts / comments you have.
  2. Hi, I'm a Newbie and I wanted to pick this Thread up. I picked up 2 (well, actually 3, 1 for a fishing friend) Winfield Bass Fishers. They look absolutely gorgeous and run pretty well. Haven't caught anything on it the once I've used it, but plenty of time yet. Interestingly (or maybe not, depends on your view point) I stripped them down to see what was going on inside. I just so happened to have stripped a Penn Longbeach 60 at the same time and was astonished that the Winfield's were exactly the same inside. I would be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts on the Winfield Reels (or indeed other, Winfield tackle), especially what people have done to customise or just keep them going. Quite taken with them!
  3. Hi, I'm a new Poster and want to find out all I can about Oil Bath Bearing Scarborough Reels made by Edwin Peart of Eastborough in Scarborough in the 1970's and Bill Temple Special Rods. I am also interested in purchasing the same if anyone has any they would consider selling on. Does anyone have any information about them? I have spoken to David Storey of 'The Codling Crouch fame', he has been very informative, as was Dave Meads who appeared in last month's Sea Angler article on fishing Hawsker.
