  1. Sorry Euan, I just couldn't let your statement go without comment: "farmers are not going to rear or buy a thousand pheasants to shoot and let the good old fox eat the lot!" Possibly not the best suggestion for a billboard caption.

  3. Are you able to fish from the tree-lined bank? Just swing the bait out with a single SSG, then put your rod in the rest while the bait rolls under the near bank. Alternatively, fish after dark. You will be able to catch them in mid river then.

  5. There is a lot of nonsense talked by the hunt supporters regarding the number of dogs that would have to be destroyed. It probably equates to about the same amount of unwanted animals that the RSPCA routinely destroy every week, and is infinitesimal compared to the number of animals put down in the F&M outbreak. Once they have been put down, they will no longer have to keep shooting comparitively young animals, just because they feel they have reached the end of their useful lives.

  7. Try adding about half a teaspoon full of betaine to a pint of sweetcorn. Shake it up in a plastic tub, and leave in the fridge overnight. Iy you are using frozen sweetcorn, add a pinch of salt as well.
  8. Superdrug sell a product called Clean+Dry antibacterial hand gel, which can remove the smell of mackerel, so must have at least a fair chance of making some sort of an impact on Secret Agent. Worth a try!
  9. Excellent! I wish I'd written that. The bloody stuff should be subject to the same regulations controlling nuclear waste and anthrax spores. A mate of mine borrows my rolling table, and brings it back covered in the stuff. I have to leave it out in the back yard for a week before I dare go anywhere near it, and after he's gone the whole house stinks of it, just from the smell of the stuff that's permeated his pores. It's enough to make you want to splash some N-Butyric Acid behind your ears in an effort to mask the revolting stench.
  10. I can assure you teepee that you are only breaking the law if you are a retailer, and you try to SELL anything in pounds and ounces. Match organisers can weigh in and publish their results in drammes, grams, bushels, pecks, pennyweights or even apples and oranges as far as the law is concerned. A good pair of scales should last you for years and years, so if it bothers you, buy two or three sets calibrated in imperial gradations, and you can use your preferred units for ever...well almost.

  12. The Countryside Alliance is purely and simply an anti-Labour organisation, run by fox hunters. They have no support for coarse anglers except for the resulting numbership boost that might help them to support their political machinations. Proof of this was shown during the televised anti fox hunting debates of the last few years. Without exception, CA representatives dragged angling into the debate by claiming it was far more cruel than fox hunting. This ingenuous defence was repeated with such regularity, that it was obviously part of the official CA crib sheet, designed to be regurgitated by their media spokesperson whenever the going got tough, and their argument was being successfully demolished. If you want to march with a crowd of horn blowing sadists and their equally pathetic hunt followers then so be it. I personally want nothing to do with them, and resent anyone attempting to align me with them in any way.
