The reason would be to prevent the predation problem on our club water, we are situated adjacent to the coast and in the past couple of years we have been heavily bombarded by the birds. We have been actively deterring the predation problem by making fish safe havens and stringing ropes with reflectors across the water and placing scarecrow type devices. Therefore as a small club with limited funds we can ill afford for the problem to remain. I am fully aware that shooting the bird will not stop the problem but it will go a long way toward assisting our previous efforts.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone on here can help. I was talking to several anglers with reference to the shooting of cormorants and someone mentioned that the birds are now classed as 2 different types costal and inland. Allegedly if it is classed as a costal bird you can legally dispatch it without a special licence. My questions would be: 1 Is there any truth in this? 2 If it is true how do you classify what is a costal bird? Your help on this matter would be very interesting indeed. Many thanks,

Hi all, I am wondering if any one can help. Basically I am trying to raise funds for the Scottish Disabled Fly Fishing Association so that they can attend the home nations in June. I have sent the following letter to several companies with no response. I would ask that you take the time to read the letter and if you have any small odds and ends of tackle that you would consider kindly donating as prizes for a raffle i would love to hear from you. We are currently organising a charity day where we are supporting the "Scottish Disabled Fly Fishing Association" they are currently trying to raise funds so that they can attend the home internationals. The day is to serve two purposes firstly to raise money for the charity and secondly to promote coarse angling in Scotland which is currently a minnow in the angling world. The planned events are for the junior members and non match fishermen to partake in a match with coaching and tuition from the more advanced/ experienced members of the club. We currently have 20 plus members interested in the event and hope it will be a successful day. The club fund is looking to match the entry fees for the day therefore doubling the funds toward the charity and to that end I was wondering if there was in any way possible that you could donate some items of coarse tackle (no matter how small) to be raffled off on the day to boost the monies. Hopefully we will have a photographer there for the event and we will mention any company manes that can provide assistance in the local press and possibly the RAF News. Hi Lyn, Troon is beside ayr and for me is easier to get there travelling from fife, it is accessed by better roads ie motorway / duals almost all the way so it might be worth checking it out. The only issue with it is that i is a seasonal ferry with one sailing a day. hope that this helps...

Hi again, I have just booked our fishing holiday for 2009 and would just like to: 1: Let you know how cheap a trip to Ireland can be! and 2: Ask regular Irish anglers or anyone for top tips and locations for fishing in and arround Enniskillen. (Carrybridge) 1: I pricred the holiday 7 nights in fermanagh for 3x car and 2 men per car through anglers world holidays which came in at over £270.00 , I then set myself a challenge to beat that price. Firstly i contacted he guesthouse and the quoted £25/ night 3175 for the 7 nights and a friend off mine told me that you could buy ferry tickets using your tesco clubcard vouchers so i priced the ferry from troone to larne and it came in at £210 for a car and 2 passengers. With the tesco dal you currently get 4 times face value so i ended up getting the ferry for £27.50 per head. Which i think is a complete bargain. £202.50 per person saving £ 70 on anglers world holidays. The credit crunch is being felt everywhere but you must have your fishing to keep you sane. 2: I have fished in and arround enniskillen before but I would like to hear from anyone that knows the area to give us some hints and tips reguarding bait, tackle, hotspots and any fishing stories/ experiences in and arround this area.

Hi, I am trying to locate any companies that produce expanding pellets, one of the guys i was fishing with today mentioned that he managed to find a producer of expanding pellet and he was able to buy in bulk. I was silly enough not to ask for more details and i doubt that ill ever see the guy again as i was at a fishery 70 miles from my home. I would like to buy in bulk as i can then pass the savings onto the fellow members of my club as good quality bait is hard to come by in Fife and Angus. All help is greatly appreaciated

skeetshoot, as has been suggested allready check out www.magiscroft.co.uk when you go see ronnie and he will try his best to help you, there is also a fishery near newmills i belive that is also a trout place. then you have several places that i fish in fife and angus. only one of these used to allow regulars to have a pop at the bigger carp on the fly. are you chasing specimen fish or are you content catching match size carp? if you put some more info on your post i'll try and direct you closer to your quarry.

I have fished my local still water for 10 years now even in the depths of scotish winter, i believe what is being said here is all true, on cold dull days i will stick to the depths and on a brighter day i will try to find, not a margin but a shallower part of the lake, (say about 4 feet) on a silt ridge etc. the reason for this is due to water having a -ve temperature co-eficent which means that when the surface has ice on it the water temp @ 4' is approx +4 deg cel. at these lower temps i like to use chopped worm for the perch but chop it till there is only juice left as i dont want to feed them off and i'll fish a small worm tail over the top. an other tactic adopted by the locals is to make minature worm bombs (about the size of a wallnut) these work especially well when you are fishing in deeper water as the ground bait can be skinned to get the worm scent to the bottom of the lake (13' in our case), quickly.

hi fished at staunton last september and had a few good days on it apart from match day. the balif is spot on if not a little mad. (i think he has spent too much time in the company of his japaneese fighting dog) but they are booth harmless. when the water reopens he would advise you to fish pegs in the 170's at the back of the farm and not to use fishmeal as for some reason the bream shoals etc are put off by it. he prefers braseam and i had good bags on practice useing molassis. hope this is of some hlp to you. he would also tell you that pegs 1 through to 20 get fished most often so they are worth a throw.
