  1. Well, we picked up some money, not as much as we were expecting though. £850 helps us a lot though, and we are still making applications all over the place to secure enough funding to ensure we can continue with our work. I memory of Mark, we have decided to have a PISCES match in August for the Mark Bland Memorial Trophy. Entry will be the usuall £7, prizes are dependant on other peoples generosity! Again, thanks to all who have helped us, we are growing by the day!
  2. For anyone interested in the PISCES group, you may have read the the Country Land and Business association gave PISCES a grant for £500 over a month ago. Since then, we applied for the Yorkshire Evening Post Community Cash Giveaway, and got it! We are going to the presentation event in just over a week, and thats when we find out how much we are getting. We are hopeful, as we applied for £5000. This means that PISCES will be developing very quickly over the coming months. Exciting and scary, with a load more work to do. Also, after Mark's funeral on Friday, we were given the collection from the funeral, totalling an impressive £100. We will use this to ensure that we have the right equipment to get as many people fishing as possible. One problem we do have, as we are looking to be a registered charity by the next financial year, we need a qualified accountant to look over our books every year before we submit them to the Charities Commission. If there is anyone willing and able to fill this roll, please let me know, your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again to everyone who has helped and encouraged us, PISCES is finally getting some of the recognition and support it needs to continue. There are more ideas being looked at and discussed, I will keep you informed of any further developments.
  3. I don't know if anyone saw the PISCES report on tv back in July, but the young man who was speaking for us, Mark, passed away recently. He was found at home last weekend. We don't yet know the cause, or when he died. He will be sadly missed by many. He was aged just 27.
  4. I used to do a lot more shooting, mainly air rifle. The only thing that put me off it was the members of the club I was in. Had a good few rabbits for the table, and it was an enjoyable form of pest control for local farmers. I've only ever done catch and release fishing, as I'm not keen on fish! I still have a sometimes unpopular view that chasing around in a pack on horses with a hundred dogs is rightly illegal. To shoot an animal as a pest or for food, a quick and relatively painless death. To chase it for hours kind of seems pointless to me. We invented guns etc so that we don't have to do it anymore! But each to their own, slavery had a lot of support when it was banned!
  5. PISCES has just recieved its first grant, the Country Land and Business association have just given us £500 to continue with our fishing! A big thanks to them!! This means that we can continue to grow, and we can get some decent equipment. Hopefully this is just the first!
  6. Just to let people know, the PISCES fishing group is expanding. For those who don't know, PISCES is a fishing group for people with mental health problems. We have found that going fishing reduces stress, (Surprise!!) and relieves tension. We've had one member reducing his medication through fishing with us! We are shortly going to be opening 2 further branches, one in Wakefield and one in Castleford. For further info, visit our website here.
  7. In all honesty, I can't see this doing much for the majority. I have not been affected by any of these organisations while I've been fishing. I think the majority of pleasure anglers never see much from the political wing.

    Hi from me!

The website is www.piscesfishing.org.uk. Link to the news piece is http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7525768.stm I didn't put the address here originally, as I was warned on another site, accused of spamming. Such is!
  9. I'm hoping to try a bit of beach casting from Minehead in a couple of weeks, anyone got any tips? Never tried salt water before, so anything you don't find on the general info sites would help!
  10. I'd never go fishing without sweetcorn, maggot feeders work too. I pulled a couple of 5lb bream out of the Aire using it. Spam works well for tench and carp in my experience, had a couple over 10lb on that. I also never use a meat punch, I've found they prefer the rougher chunks. Only my experience, and that isn't vast!!

    Hi from me!

Yes, I found the anti's site a few weeks after I'd got our site and paperwork sorted! Still, at least we are closer to sane! There's always the chance that people looking for the anti's site might stumble across ours and see that angling does a lot of good! No harm in hoping!

    Hi from me!

Hi, I've just arrived! I live in Wakefield, and work in Leeds in a mental health day centre. People local to here may have seen me introducing the PISCES group on Look North on Friday. We have found that fishing helps all sorts of mental health problems, it also means that I get paid to go fishing!! Anyway, hope there's a few nutters here, someone to keep this one company!
