  1. Its strange how in different regions people call fish by different nick names. EG bream get called Slabs Snoties, Slimers etc. As for sunbarines. Maybe pike could be called that. Their stealthy and deadly.
  2. Use red maggots or small worms. They are very similar to perch as habitat goes. Look for the sort of swims where you would expect perch and its very likely you will catch ruffe.
  3. I will have a go at the pike fight. I my experience there's two types. The jack. A quick jigga jag of the head and a quick surrender to the surface. On the other hand when you hook a bigger one there's a few moments of solid resistance then the head and shoulders start say leave me alone, Or what the hells going on. Very similar to the jacks fight but more deliberate and stronger they tend to kite a few times left to right until they finally are wallowing in front of you and seem done. Then they find a second breath and explode on the surface like a rabid alligator. After a couple of tail walks. If your John Wilson. lol you should have them safely in the net. Gracefully incarcerated docile and ready for unhooking in a quick no fuss manner.
  4. I always think the best approach with smaller species is to take the picture holding them as a profile of yourself with the fish the same distance from the lens as your head. Then you get a true perspective on the dimensions of the fish. I really dont like some of these in your face kinda pictures. They always seem kind of over excited kiddy look at my fish daddy.
  5. Autumn is by far my favourite season, Not just for the fishing but for its shear beauty. All the colours of the leaves changing just makes being by the river more enjoyable. September will see me out with a bit of perching. And i will be hoping towards the end of the month we get a good drop of rain to give the rivers a good flush through, And i will continue my not to successful so far barbel campaign. Then come the frosts, If we get any i will get back onto my pikeing. Trouble with me is i love having a go for most species and the autumn does cause me a lot of confusion.
  6. Some nice looking fish there boldbear. I have been working the last few nights and notice a distinct autumnal feel in the air.
  7. Nobody's admitting it. OK I will put my hand up. Im in Essex
  8. http://www.bigfreeguide.com/camping/browse...sbury-55-1.html
  9. Big tub of lobs. Nice late August evening. The stream sounds like a good bet.
  10. Its a sad state of affairs really. Even if we had river bailiffs i really cant see how one man would stand a chance against organised gangs of thieves. As anglers its very frustrating as we really cant do a lot. OK we can keep our eyes open and report any potential problems but its really down to the EA and the police to deal with the issues. But most of the time they havent got the man power or the time to worry about a few fish. We have seen fish stocks destroyed in some areas by thieving EUs and no body does anything about it. Maybe its time to start some sort of campaign to try and educate the above rather than just keep moaning about it. My thoughts on education may differ from yours mind
  11. Cracking session Andy. Love the pic of the one in the water
  12. Thats a blast from the past. There wasnt many. From the same stable as carp world if im not mistaken. I will have to go round me old dears and get up the attic. Theres tons of early carpworlds and im sure theres some of those thrown in. Wasnt kevin clifford the editorr?
  13. I recently started playing the electric again after a bit of a break. I have only been playing the acoustic for the last few years. Depending on how much you wannt to spend on a electric. Theres plenty of cheap deals around, Even argos do some good little starter kits. My personel choice would be a les paul copy. But thats just my preferance. Fender now do the starcaster, Which is a cheaper version of the strat. Theres plenty of videos on you tube to watch for the bigginer and the more advanced. Heres another helpful sight http://www.chordbook.com/guitarchords.php
  14. Good to see someone making an effort for one of our truly beautiful fish.
  15. My favourite big roach bait is flake. With small worms a close second. Even if you are catching smaller ones the onset of dusk often improves your chance of a better one. As for line i really wouldnt feel the need to go any higher than say 4ib Theres something really special about a big roach, A real specimen hunters fish.
  16. I am very envious. I wish i could go down my local stretch of river and find the barbel so obliging. My local stretch of the Suffolk stour holds a nice shoal of barbel. But they are testing and elusive most of the time. But i know where there are plenty of nice tench. Wanna swap? Nice report. Well done
  17. Start with the links from moonlight angler. Once you got the jist of setting up a float etc. Just get out there and have a go. You will soon meet people that will give you advice and help most of us are a friendy bunch. Depending on what you local tackle shops are like you might be able to get some pointers and helpful advice. But like budgie said these days they are not always as helpful as they use to be, Unless you are buying the latest super dooper carp rods and three obcence beach fishing coarse reels.
  18. Invest in a powerspike like Davy said its a lot quiter than a mallet and you will get your brolly in nice and secure. Even in the hardest gravel.
  19. Its a shame you had your evening spoilt Gary. Also a shame for your sons first trip fishing, Not a good intruduction to the sport.
  20. Only really boillys. if i go carp fishing. I tend to hair rig pellets and meat for barbel only if i feel they may be finicky. But most of my barbeling is done on quite a low pressured stretch of river. So i done really need to be to subtle. A lot of guys these days use plastics and there great for hair rigging. Providing the hook lenghs stays good order and the hook stays sharp you can use it all day.
  21. I would agree with budgie. i have tended to find sizable bream are mainly nocturnal feeders. Though you can catch them during the daylight hours. I am not a fan of bright conditions though, Much prefer a bit of cloud cover. September and october can be a good time for serious breaming. I have always found the most important thing with bream is location. Once you find them and get to know there patrol routes they can be very predictable. Especially on large pits and lakes
  22. My local river has a head of carp but they are few and far between. And i don't feel that there presence is detrimental to the other species. I know there's a lot of rivers that have a larger head of carp and quite sure the other fish suffer. As for killing them personally i wouldn't unless it was made law. Like in Australia where they are considered a pest. It would be interesting just to see just how many carp there are in the uk now, Compared to say 50 years ago
