  1. Hi, I'm off to Majorca in July for a family holiday, but hoping to get out for a bit of early morning lure fishing - has anyone got any tips on the best sorts of lures and kit I'd need. I'm going to the Puerto Pollensa area. Thanks in advance John
  2. Hi, After a year without fishing (new baby and extension etc) I decided this year rather than pay for my licenses and not use them I'd get out as and when i could. So after a sober Sunday night before a before a bank holiday Monday, I was up at 4am and on the bank by 4:20am. A stunning sunrise and mist coming off the lake made me realise I won't leave it as long again, although I forgot how cold it can be that early in the morning! I only fished for about 3 hours using exclusively sweetcorn and had around 20 nice roach up to around 1lb and in amongst them all a decent perch, though I'm not sure how big it was? any ideas? But thoroughly enjoyable and I'll make it a more regular trip in the future.
  3. Cheers for all the advice, i think i'll get them all a bit of gear for Christmas and the give it a go once it warms up in the spring! Thanks
  4. Hi, I'm looking for a venue to take my daughters and nephew fishing next spring - their ages are 7, 5 and 3 - so i'm looking for somewhere near the Dorking/Reigate area where i can show them the basics and hopefully they will catch, without disturbing any other anglers? Any suggestions? Thanks
  5. Hi, I'm going out on a friends boat that is moored in the estuary of the river Hamble - just looking for a bit of fun sport for a couple of hours, can anyone suggests what areas, methods and baits to use? Ta John
  6. Cheers for the reply. Had a go Saturday morning, spinnign off the beach and around the estuary without any luck - i'll give it a go again in a few weeks. Have you got any tips for which sort of lures, plugs, spoons or jellies might work best for bass there? Ta john
  7. Hi, My Dad has just moved to Budleigh, so i can see a lot of family holidays being based there and i'm after a bit of fishing advice. I'd like to know the best tactics from the beach and baits etc. Also be interested in fishing trips organised from there or surrounding area. Ta john
  8. Tench, Lucky you, I took the family there as year and it was a cracking holiday! We stayed about 2 miles south of St Giles, i took my fishing gear but didn't get a chance to use it - however i saw quite a few locals fishing south of there. The first place was a town called Bretignolles-sur-mer on the rockier parts of the beach. The second was about 6 miles ish further south, there is a forrested park area before you reach les sables. I'm not a great French speaker so from what i could understand and see they were either spinning with lures/jellies or beach casting with strips of mackerel or squid. Hope this helps and i'd be interested to hear how you get on, as we may go there again next year.
  9. Hi all, Its been a while since I was on here or indeed fishing! I'm going through all my old tackle etc and it's time up change my line - any advice on the best lines on the market? I usually fish small to medium sized lakes on fairly light tackle for Roach, Perch, Tench and small carp etc - I have 2 spools for my match reel - one which I would load with around 3-4lb line for float fishing and one with 6-8lb line for feeder fishing etc. I also have a bait runner which I use for the occasional larger carp session and piking, I was thinking 15lb ish for this. Any advice about which lines are worth considering from the vast array would be appreciated. Also if anyone has any advice on where the best place to get this online is that would be great. Ta john
  10. Good to hear it is also not just me! I was fishing a while ago when something made me turn round, only to be confronted by a bank of about 30 cows above my swim watching me! thankfully they moved off after a few minutes but there was no way out upwards and i didn't fancy a swim! I've taken to only fishing this stretch when it is cow free.
  11. Hi all, I'm finally looking to invest in a decent fishing chair, after years of using a old garden chair! I generally float/light ledger fish for around 4-6 hours around local lakes/rivers which have fairly uneven banks, don't often fish the perfect platform commercials. Also I'd be interested if anyone has a chair with rod rest etc built in. Thanks John
  12. JK, Those looks a good selection of light road - what reels would you use with them? Ta John
  13. Dales, Would you say 3lb is about fair for that fish?
  14. Hi, I'm on a quest to catch a Barbel from the River Mole near Dorking, I know there are a few in there - the problem is Crayfish!, my preferred method would be luncheon meat but the little clawed buggers love this - so what would people recommend both groundbait/loose feed wise and also hook baits. Ta John
  15. I've been reading this thread with interest and though I'd give it a go first thing Sunday morning. I persuaded the missus to let me use the food processor to blend up some luncheon meat and then threw in a few hand full of honey pellets, when she wasn't looking! I got down to the river early and filled a PVC bag full of the mixture and fished it with hair-rigged luncheon meat, within about 15mins I had this nice chub, not sure of the size as I left the scales at home, but I reckon about 3lb?! After that though I was plagued by Crayfish for a hour so must have been attracted to the oily slick the bags were making, so I switched to a bit of spinning for the other hour I had and had 2 small jack pike. However great method that I'll be using again
