  1. Hi,Im from swansea and paddle an Ocean Kayak Trident 15. The gower coast line is my usual haunt.
  2. Hi,It was a shame about the wind today.did you try the far end of the beach, near the docks. The two breakwaters create a sheltered bay ideal for practicing. Theres also a free car park to boot.Im 54 and live in Aberavon. There are a number of clips on you tube, demonstating re-entry techniques, they might be of some help. I launch at Aberavon a few days a week, no doubt I will see you there some day. regards Martin
  3. Hi Tim, Are you weighing up the pro,s and cons,or have you taken the plunge ? I would be glad to share any advice or meet up for a paddle,if you want to trey out an ocean kayak. My E mail is.....martinphillips007@sky.com. regards Martin.
  4. Ive seen the same thing done to a blond ray.I nearly ended up with a fight with the idiot that did it. No im refering to kill the fish, then de-wing it and dispose of the body.
  5. Thanks guys, I will give it a try, even if its only the once.I believe there is an old folk law, that you remove the wings at sea ,and allways leave the body at sea ! regards Martin.
  6. Hi Guys, Ive been catching a lot of thornbacks recently, and returned all of them. Im tempted to take one for the pot. However I dont know enough about preparing the wings. I wont take a fish untill i am sure that im going to eat it. So does anyone have any advice, about cutting and preparing the wings of a thornback ? Thanks Martin.
  7. Hi Tim, Dont worry about size mate ,it sounds like im larger than you. There are several good kayaks which are designed for big guys and all the gear you wish to carry. Ive chosen the ocean kayak trident 15. Its load capacity is great at around250Kgs .Its nearly 16 Ft long so its fast, for a sit on top. Its very stable, wich allows you to concentrate on the fishing. It has several hatches,to stow gear below deck,ie tent etc. I could go on and on,the best thing would be to call around and have a look for yourself,or better still, try it out. I live very close to the beach at Aberavon and use a trolley to take the kayak to the water. During the summer im normally on the water 4 or5 times a week ,so any time you like your more than welcome to give me a call, and we will sort something out. My E MAIL.........martinphillips007@sky.com regards martin.
  8. Hi mate, I went down too, about the same time, sorry I missed you. Maybe a chance over the bank holiday.
  9. Hi martinmoanna, What time tomorrow and where are you launching from. I might be able to join you,are you fishing or just paddling ?
  10. Ive been off aberavon a few times, but so far the fishing has been lousey. Its great just to be out there ,but a few fish would be nice. Have any other swansea area kayakers been out yet,and if so have you had any luck. Im still hoping when the weather improves. We can arrange a meet at aberavon or gower, until then tight lines. Martin
  11. Hi There, I did suggest a meet at aberavon a few weeks ago,but it seems people are holding out for the warmer weather. Im hoping the weather will pick up for the may bank holiday. With any luck it will tempt a few people to take the plunge. Martin
  12. Hi there, I suggested a meet at aberavon a few weeks ago,but it seems most people are waiting for the warmer weather.Im hoping for a good spell over the may bank holiday.with any luck it will tempt a few people out. regards Martin
  13. Hello mate, Having tried a few.Ive opted for the Ocean kayak Trident 15.Im very happy with it, its long line gives a good glide and there is plenty of room for any amount of gear. Its previous owner however .Sold it to me because he found the Tarpons more stable. I would be interested if you have any ideas on that. cheers Martin
  14. Would anyone fancy an outing, either fishing or just paddling off aberavon beach on sunday. The weather looks ok at the moment. If it cuts up,there is always the breakwater areas or river to practice on. High tide is at 1600 hrs,so im thinking of launching at 1300hrs. Any newcomers to the sport most welcome. cheers Martin
  15. Hi Dawsie,I am definately interested in a session soon. I notice there are others showing interest ,im sure we can get a group together for a great day out.looking forward to it. Martin (aberavon)
