  1. If I'm lucky enough to get a place this year I was thinking of having a crack at the eels. A couple of seasons ago me and a friend targeted tench on Pan lake in Canterbury after seeing a lot rolling during a really warm spell in February. We used inline leads with short rigs and maggots as bait. We caught half a dozen eels up to 3.5lb during a couple of sessions and a couple of high single tench. Conventional wisdom seems to concentrate on as little resistance as possible but the runs that we got with the semi fixed rigs were very positive and most of the fish were lip hooked. Has anybody had similar experiences or would you advocate sticking to low resistance rigs?
  2. Thanks to Steve the bailiffs and Paul, (Tinca Tinca) my swim neighbour for a enjoyable weekend. I reckon the Top Bay should be renamed Jack Corner! I had the 'Perchiest' looking swim which threw up ten Jacks. Good fun on a light float rod though! Looking forward to it next year, fingers crossed I get a place! Ben
  3. I can lend two GFx alarms and a Trakker sleeping bag(one side zip is knackered) I havn't got a spare bivvy but I can also lend a 50" Korum Stormshield brolly. You can get a bedchair underneath it but not much else. Ben
  4. Would it be a faux pas to target the carp on the coarse lake? I've read on the Wingham website that there are four known forties.
  5. I've got a pair of Korum KXi 60 reels under the tree. I had a play in the tackle shop. Nice drag, seem robust. I'll do a little review in the new year. Budgie in answer to your post earlier in the thread regarding rear drag Shimano's I've owned 6010 aero and GTE models. The drags were fine for a season then became sticky. A friend of mine has the XTEAs and now suffers from a similar problem. Don't get me wrong front drag shimanos are very good I've owned Navi Pit reels and used a stradic front drag and they were excellent but the raer drags jsut don't do it for me. I generally use Daiwa front drags in smaller sizes.
  6. I've just aquired a pair of 2lb Korum rods and am looking to purchase two reels to pair them. My quarry will be quite varied from drain and canal piking, feeder fishing for tench and bream and small estate lake/pond carping. I'm not interested in rear drag shimano tat (awful sticky drags) although their 5000 sized reels seem to the perfect size I'm after. Any ideas anybody? Thanks in advance! Ben
  7. I'm in Canterbury and heard some fine things about the fish in Wingham! I would love to join in!
