  1. I'm looking for a good quality fishing large but not to heavy brolley. Any suggestions would be helpful.
  2. Fed up with the way that the TSB treat us I would like to move Banks. Does anyone have a Bank that they can recommend?
  3. Can anyone offer a recommendation for a set of good fishing scales, not digital.
  4. “Looks good on paper but his union links bring doubt on everything.” What Union links and what is the everything that will be doubted? “Doubt on everything.” Everything what? “Miliband a leftie union stooge. Give us some examples. “Referendum please, something the reds hate.” Please explain. “He is also spouting a lot of economically suicidal leftie twaddle.” “Give us some examples. Most of the above comments appear to have been written by the “Sun” which is little better than a comic so try offering some basic analysis. Over the last twenty years the right wing leadership of the Labour Party has destroyed any of the original ethos within the Party by destroying the democratically elected power of the NEC and the National Executive so that there was little difference between them and the Tories. Corbyn brings a breath of fresh air into politics.
  5. I'm a retired HR Manager from 1993 so its a few years since I dealt with this sort of thing so I did what I would have done all those years ago only this time instead of writing or telephoning contacts I let my fingers do the walking and found several examples of Risk Assessment and took the best of them to act as a template. Vagabond wrote, "Several pages in club notebooks are now concerned with "drugs policy" "risk assessment" "health and safety policy" "liability insurance" etc etc etc" Could you offer me an example of the alcohol and drugs policy because I see no point in re-inventing the wheel. When I have completed my total risk assessment I will be willing to share it.
  6. The insurer of the organisation our club rents a lake from has insisted that we draft a Risk Analysis and would like to know if anyone has come across this. I have been asked to include a policy on alcohol and drugs.
  7. I'm looking for any advice on setting up a toilet at a lake because I bet there are all sorts of laws we have to follow. Something like a building site toilet. The question is how to get rid of the you know what?
  8. I did have a Garbolino landing net until the mice chewed it and so I asked Garbolino if they sold replacement nets and of course they said no. Seems a bit wasteful to buy a new landing net head when all I need is the net bit. Does anyone know if such things are sold or are we forever going to be exploited?
  9. A local angling club wants to develop a lake it rents in an attempt to encourage interest in the sport. Has anyone come across anything like this?
  10. What if one was in a club that had a large lake and a small lake that could easily be defended against Cormorants. Would it make sense to buy a load of small Carp and if so how would one grow them on. Are there any publications, books or guides to help such a club?
  11. A couple of the members of our angling club have sugested that the club should join the Angling Trust and Fish Legal. Does anyone have any opinions on this organisation?

Does anyone know of an insurance broker that deals in club tropy insurance?
  15. I know that I may appear to be thick but the instructions with the FOX Rapid load PVA Bag System show everything apart from how to fit the bag to the line. Could you help?
  16. Many thanks for the answers. First thing I will do next time out is to shorten my hook length. I wondered why apart from the shy bites the fish that I did catch just took off.
  17. I recently bought a Method Feeder but as I used it for the first time the thought crossed my mind that it could not be as sensitive as a simple Swim Feeder. I set the Method Feeder up using a swivel that with a hook line coming out from the front end of the swivel through the Method Feeder. The reel line came out of the back end of the Method Feeder. For a bite to show the fish has to grab the hook line which is connected to the front Method Feeder and move the whole thing. If I had been using a Swim Feeder the hook line would have been connected to the reel line a few inches short of the Swim Feeder and be much more sensative or have I got it all wrong?
  18. I don’t normally use fisheries because I get the impression that they are stuffed so full of fish one could on occasions use a landing net to catch them and the fish are caught so often they get to know them by name. However, I have found fishery where it’s not quite like that and as well as a shoal of small Roach and other small stuff there are some large fish from three to twelve pounds and they are quite wary. Is it possible to say what Method Feeder one could use to give one a chance at that sort of fish?
  19. I am not a very successful fisherman but I do enjoy the Sunday Matches the Club I'm in have which are mostly on the River Thames. This year the Club Individual Match is on Panshill fishery and I have visited it to see what it’s like to fish. I used a swim feeder with maggot, then a Waggler Float with worm and found I was getting savage bites from what appeared to me to be three inch Carp and Roach. Then I hooked a Carp that was near enough 12 inches and it was quite an experience and later in the day I found that just using ledger weight and worm bait fetched the bites. As a result of my day out I have decided that I will go again for a day out to see if I can work out how I can do better than I usually do at matches and that is the purpose of this post. Would someone be so kind as to advise me as to what I need to do to catch Carp. I don't mean by siting there for five hours with a rod on its rest waiting for a Carp to pass by I mean what size hook, what ground bait, what bait? Should I use a float or a feeder? My apologies for possibly appearing simplistic but at my age I can’t afford to wait around.
  20. Is there any point in using a method feeder as aposed to a swim feeder?
  21. The lake/pit is a 23.8 acre lake/pit which Sutton Courtenay Angling Club call, "Phil's Lake" after a long time member, Phil Boyes. It is close to Abingdon Marina and I know that during the summer Tench were caught on a regular basis.
  22. Someone stated that although Tench had been reguarly caught on the lake that our Club rents near Abingdon none had been caught recently. Is that the same elswhere on the Thames?
  23. Many thanks for the flags. However, regrettably I paid little attention to geography at school and I do not know what flag fits what country. Can you help? As regards the other comments my recent experience is that the people that we come across are most likely from East Europe and they always start off by saying that they don’t speak English until I put a mobile telephone to my ear and say the word, "Police" then they wake up a bit. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and I can do this by showing them words in their own language that says they need a club ticket to fish our water.
  24. We quite often come across people fishing our waters near Abingdon who when asked for a Club Ticket state they don't speak English. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy cards written in different Eastern European languages setting out the "facts of life"?
  25. I heard that a club near me is having to pay VAT on a lake they rent. Does anyone know anything about this sort of thing?
