  1. I woke this morning with so much pressure on my chest that I though my dog Mr Sam had laid on me, I had been feeling poorly for a week so a trip to the Drs and I have been diagnosed with a viral chest infection, It could last six weeks so No smoking and no fishing in the cold he says.
  2. I would use your 3.4lb line near to snags. A light match rod to pull them away would be suitable. adjust that clutch though and prepare for those sudden lunges, My allotment holds lots of lob worms so I bait heavily with chopped Lobs and use some worm juice as a cloud groundbait. You will probably be plagued by smaller Perch but be patient as the bigger fish will be lurking nearby.
  3. I love my optonics and love my single alarm. Depends on what u want to fish for, how often etc. When I buy new gear I have to justify it to the FPO that I will use it regular
  4. How about a bait dropper, Having never used a pole (Too traditional) I use chopped worm and caster on my local rivers with some success.
  5. Why dont we do Beccles Cut or the Waveney there?
  6. My Dad bought me a 5' toy rod with a reel of 1lb line attached, I had to learn the hard way by going fishing alone and reading books and magazines, no internet forums in the 1980's I would not give up until I caught a fish, I spent hours on my local river and learned how to fish. In all my fishing I have had to learn on my own and never regretted it
  7. Just returned from a grand day out on the beach near Lowestoft Suffolk. a few Dabs, albeit small, loads of throw back Whiting at dusk. No Cod as yet but a small Bass and a Doggie on the running leger with Peeler. It has got my taste buds going and another session is forthcoming this weekend
  8. Feral youths, drunks chavs and Druggies, all are attracted to the night angler on the town stretches of the Waveney
  9. I am entitled to an opinion and do not need any slack thank you very much.
  10. these reports come to from the anglers who report to me not me personally, Yes I was at a Suffolk Beach but no I dont witness "Terrible angling crimes" You suggest I do, Yes I have seen Good anglers but not the bad ones,
  11. Nope it's true on the river Peter and I live beside, the s called Pikers have ruined it by careless unhooking. From what I have seen on one Broad (Peter knows what I mean) most of the boat anglers are very good at treating their catches. Sadly on the banks anglers are using Sea tackle. hoofing out the pike and being too afraid to unhook them knock them on the head, No wonder we keep our sites secret.
  12. Never seen CEFAS who has it's HQ near me ever coming out with a fish stick. I believe as with Freshawter angling those who are serious about their sport will pay for a sea licence, I would gladly pay for one as long as we see fish size enforcement on the shoreline by CEFAS staff.
  13. Milliput does the same job at half the price
  14. I stand on the cliffs and look for sand bars then get the boat out and fish just at the very end as it drops into the depths. I use a size four aberdeen on a flowing trace with Ragworm cut at about and inch in length
  15. Well done, we dont get Barbel on the Waveney,
  16. Whilst enjoying some good sport at an undisclosed shore fishing venue in Suffolk an "extended family" of twelve decided to set up close to where I was fishing, soon the lines were tangled with mine and when I asked if they could move further along the beach the father told me to FO! or I would get a bunch of fives. Soon one of the six rods nodded and a pout was reeled in. suddenly the whole gang crowded the lucky angler (a lad of about 8 years old. and stood around wondering what to do next. The father stood on the fishes head and tried to rip the hook free and as that did not work the Mum ran down to the sea with a rag. The father covered the fish with a rag then tried again to rip the hook out, nope, that did not work so they cut the head off the live fish and ripped the hook from its mouth, They had no idea how to unhook a fish and after the threat of violence I ignored them further. Not really funny but just proves that even some silly Sea anglers can be irresponsible
  17. I will PM you as this is a popular beach, I dont think anyone will say anything on the forum
  18. Holiday and occasional anglers cause so much fish suffering that staff must be able to patrol the banks and advise the anglers to stop using dry rags to hold fish, fish with balanced tackle and safe unhooking.
  19. There has to be a big change in EA offices before we ever see regular Bailiffs on the banks. Years ago there was a river bailiff in charge of each stretch of river here in the Norfolk Broads. He was responsible for fish care, licence checks and confiscating tackle. Even getting hold of an EA officer when I see and report anglers fishing my local river in the closed season is impossible. Perhaps local anglers could be given an honorary bailiff job and paid a retainer to carry out river bailiff jobs. We have to blame the government and Police who think that angling crimes are not important. The only way forward is to re invent the river bailiff job and employ someone with a boat to patrol and deal with freshwater fish care all year round. EA staff need to get off their backsides and come and see the anglers
