    Salmon lures

Thanks Nightwing, these salmon are a fair way up river so maybe the egg fly might be the best method. I will try this and the traditional fly patterns as suggested. I'll let you know how I get on.

    Salmon lures

Ok you've probably heard this one before but i'll ask it anyway. I've never been salmon fishing before and a river only 40 mins from where I live has over the last 5 years had good runs of salmon and sea trout. I'm a member of the water and fancy a go at catching a salmon (its a course fishery, nobody fish's for em). After talking to other anglers and reading various books what I can't get my head round is if salmon don't feed in rivers why are some flies, lures and baits better than others in different conditions. If someone can explain this I maybe able to make an informed guess at which method I should use.
  3. Does anyone know when the Chattsworth Country Fair is held this year?

    braided loops

Just another point, some of the lines I have already have loops attached to both ends(Climax made by Cortland) I used one many times last year with no probs. Anyone had experience with these? Not the Climax the line

    braided loops

Derwentbob, I can't cast for toffee either, but where casting for fish are concerened? Can't cast for them either. Anyway I'll keep going with the braided loops until one fails, when, or if one does I'll let you know, especially if its on that fish of a lifetime.

    braided loops

Derwentbob Thanks for the explaination it does make sense. Also I must admit one thing did puzzle me a bit was the fact that although the manufacturers, and a number of well known anglers, advocate a braided loop they also reckon that you req the butt end of the leader to be 60% of the tip of the fly line in order to get the ness turn-over. so in your opinion how does the limp braided loop affect casting?

    braided loops

I've been fly fishing about a year and use braided loops. I used to get a bit frustrated when I had just put on a loop only to pull it off again when I wound the line back onto the reel . I don't know if i'm missing the point or defeating the object but I found a tiny spot of super glue just before you pull the sleeve over does the trick.
