  1. What sort of an idiot is this guy, spouting fantasy figures that he knows nothing about? I've been sea angling now for nearly 40 years and have never paid anything like £100 for a day out on a charter, I can ring a local skipper even now, and get a day's fishing for £35. And as for the phalacy that he represents the angling fraternity, he really needs to do some serious research/homework and get his facts half right before spouting his drivel. But on the same note, wasn't it Alan Yates of Sea Angler that thought the Sea License was a good idea? Talk about a stealth tax, Thanks guy's for the post, it keeps us in the loop when it comes to sustaining our sport. Regards Micky.
  2. I think I'm fishing in the wrong PLAICE!!!!!
  3. It sounds like I could have a complete combo that is ideal for you here, and it's brand new too. The only thing is, it might be out of your price range, I have a 16' Greys Triplex rod and a Penn Surfmaster 850 fixed spool reel with spare spool. Both new and unused and I am looking at £200 the pair. If these are any good to you you can contact me on: mickyfinn007@yahoo.co.uk The longer rods are great for longer casting but I stick with my Century and Daiwa 13'6" rods, as I am not a lover of long rods, even though they can help people cast better distances. I use more specialist rods, as that is what I have been used too for a long time. I am currently using the Century Tip Tornado Sport and a Daiwa TDZS match, these rods are both matched up with Daiwa 7HT Mag multiplier reels. As you previously mentioned, sometimes you have to cast well to reach the fish, but my best Bass have always been caught within 60m of the shore. It has taken me over 30yrs to gather lots of gear, and it can be expensive to replace, especially when somebody breaks into your shed. Always make sure your gear is insured. As mentioned before, Ebay can be a very useful tool when purchasing second hand kit.
  4. I totally agree, I think that the price of plugs is getting beyond a joke, I would certainly not pay £25 for a lure, and I think that the mark up is geting rediculous. I go to places like Poundland and get lures for a £1, and the tackle shops are selling the same lures for £6 for 3. We have to shop around, and this produces the best bargains. In my local tackle shop, we have lures that have been around for a while, and they go for £3.99, in the magazines they are still going for £12.00 The bargains are out there, we just have to look for them. .Good Luck searching, Regards Micky.
  5. Well done on getting out there and grabbing some Plaice. I was just wondering where to go fishing next week, it looks like Horton could be the Plaice then. Regards Micky (loughor).
  6. I've been using a 7HT for about 18 yrs now, and I wouldn't be without one. I've just bought 2 7HT Mags, and find the reels absolutely outstanding. Don't have any doubts about these reels, ujust buy one and ENJOY !!! Good Luck, Micky.
  7. Hi there, I used to live in Ayrshire but I now live in South Wales. At the moment our Peeler Crab moult hasn't started yet, but I would expect it to be in the next couple of weeks. We tend to find that once our moult starts down here, then it will start at your end 3/4 weeks later. Most rocky beaches are ideal for searching out peelers. Hope this helps, Regards Micky.
  8. Well, after looking through my shed the other day, I came across a few old beachcasters'. So with my findings, I am going to build a Hybrid Rod? I found a butt section from an old Century G5 Supersport, then I found a tip section from an old Conoflex NG1. So now comes the part where I order all fittings needed (fuji rings, etc) then get on with it. When inished the rod will be 13'11", with a stiff butt section and a tip section that will have a 'C' curve action, I'm actually looking forward tbuilding this rod, just so I can see what it will do. Will update in a few weeks. Regards Micky.
