  1. looking for a place to stay in Dingle then I would advise heatons Guest house see attached link. I have stayed there once or twice and it is (bar none) the best and friendliest place I have yet to come across.... Just tell them Lewis from Limerick sent you and if they are full they might be able to find a place for you. http://www.heatonsdingle.com/
  2. Will these lessons be for the people like me who are not fly fishing long and have never tied their own flies.....
  3. Has anyone got any new fishing screen savers as I am tired of the same old one on my system (free if possible).
  4. I agree, I don't think anyone intentionally leaves flies hanging from trees. I once left a fly wrapped around an electric fence, it was on and hopping and so I thought, better to lose a fly than the feeling in my arm.
  5. Very nice, 2 or 3 of us oftin thought about giving it a weekend up there at some stage, but never got around getting ourselves organised. There is a group of about 10 or 12 that go sea fishing with the 2 or 3 of us that dabble in a little fly fishing the others are always on to us to organise something so that they might have a go. Sometime fingers crossed.....
  6. Don't worry as soon as you have got enough practice............. another excuse will come along shortly afterwards LOL......
  7. Thanks for the information, I think its because the little river has so few fish in it that when I do get a take then I am a little to eager and strike to early. I am using 4lb line and as for the "hares ear nymph" I will give it a try... Are you from Galway ????
  8. I once saw a guy foul hooking a large basking shark in the tail from the top of a 50foot cliff and two other anglers had to hold on to him to prevent him going over the cliff.
  9. Thanks for the information...... I think at the end of the day I will have to spend a little time with some of the more experienced lads in the club..... Mind you since the original posting I have hooked two small brownies,so maybe something is working... May I say this is one of the best and most help website I have been on ( I only wish there was something similar for us Irish anglers) keep up the good work...
  10. a few more Arc-tic Gray-ling: (ark'tik gra'ling) n. a large fish usually found in Canada and Alaska. Time to fish for it -- 2 hours before you arrive at your fishing spot or shortly after you leave. Lures to use to fish for it: any thing not in your tackle box or in any of your fishing books Bucket: (bu-ket') n. a clumsy form of metallic footgear found on fishing boats Camera: (cam'-er-a) n. a small, but quite heavy object used by anglers to store small amounts of water and a canister of spoiled film. Habitat: (ha-bit-tat') n. a place where a particular species of fish was last week. Sinker: (sin'ker) n. a lead weight attached to a length of fishing line to facilitate the speedy disposal of unwanted lures.
  11. I have a go at both but the last day it was wet fly down stream.......
  12. Can someone please tell me....... what are the most common reasons in fly fishing for missing a take. I am not fly fishing very long and I normally go to the small river just over the back wall. The river isn't alive with fish, but does hold a nice stock of wild brownies........ The other night I popped down for an hour and to make a short story long.... I missed about 4 or 5 takes and I am wondering what I am doing wrong...... Can someone HELP..........
  13. Some fishing terms Ten common fishing terms explained Catch and Release - A conservation motion that happens most often right before the local Fish and Game officer pulls over a boat that has caught over it's limit. Hook - (1) A curved piece of metal used to catch fish. (2) A clever advertisement to entice a fisherman to spend his live savings on a new rod and reel. (3) The punch administered by said fisherman's wife after he spends their life savings (see also, Right Hook, Left Hook). Line - Something you give your co-workers when they ask on Monday how your fishing went the past weekend. Lure - An object that is semi-enticing to fish, but will drive an angler into such a frenzy that he will charge his credit card to the limit before exiting the tackle shop. Reel - A weighted object that causes a rod to sink quickly when dropped overboard. Rod - An attractively painted length of fiberglass that keeps an angler from ever getting too close to a fish. School - A grouping in which fish are taught to avoid your $29.99 lures and hold out for spam instead. Tackle - What your last catch did to you as you reeled him in, but just before he wrestled free and jumped back overboard. Tackle Box - A box shaped alarmingly like your comprehensive first aid kit. Only a tackle box contains many sharp objects, so that when you reach in the wrong box blindly to get a Band Aid, you soon find that you need more than one. Test - (1) The amount of strength a fishing line affords an angler when fighting fish in a specific weight range. (2) A measure of your creativity in blaming "that darn line" for once again losing the fish.
  14. Here are a few terms I came across are there any others out there........ see below [ 22 March 2002, 08:27 AM: Message edited by: Lewis from Limerick ]
  15. I had a chat with the father-in-law who is related to Rainsfords in Limerick, He said that there were a number of them keen fishermen (not to sure about the involvment in the making of Fishing Tackle) but that he would require names and/or dates to be sure if they were the same famly. I will go back to him if you have any more information.... Rgds Lewis
