  3. What ever happened to Jack Hargreaves? I remember watching him with my dad on TV years and years ago. He used to get on a kids programme called "HOW" and he also had a more adult programme in the evening. I can remember he once made a rod in his shed out of an old tennis raquet and some bamboo. Do any of you remember Jack? or did I dream it?

  5. Does anyone else suffer from this affliction? I've not gotten my rod out for only two weeks now and I can't stand it any more. I have to go fishing!! Moving house has been the main cause, you would think I could find time to go, you're wrong i can find time but my wife starts filling that time with house jobs. Short of murder and a new patio (see Brookside?) what can i do?

  7. I asked the same question about six weeks ago and got the same responce here and in other sites. I went out the very next day and bought the epix 30. It is a fantastic reel not enough can be said about them. My advise to you is go out and buy one now before Okuma see what's going on and hike the prices

  9. Hello me again, As some of you know I'm a born again angler who has started drowning maggots again after about ten years break. While fishing yesterday morning(while most of you where at work! Ha!) for the usual..........anything that swims past..........I had a bit of a bonus, a common carp of about 6-7lbs.....ah the joy of fishing! Now I'm by no means a specimen fisherman like our carping buddies in their sleeping bags so I don't actually own an unhooking mat and while landing my 8-9lb carp i was being watched by a passer by who told me "shouldn't do that mate!" when i unhooked the 10-11lb carp on the bank. I totally agree with said passer by but what should I do? The next 12-13lbs bonus I get while you're all at work nose to the grind I want to treat with a little more respect. Can any of you tell me the best way to unhook these 14-18lb bonuses or suggest an unhooking that would suit my style fishing, all the ones I've seen this morning have been very large and very expensive. At a guess my carp yesterday was (really!) about 5-6lbs I was fishing a 2lb hook length size 16 hook two red maggots and I was made up! thanks guys

  11. I have to say I'm happy being me, but as some have mentioned the're angling heros ican can add to this thread. My ultimate angling hero has to be my dad. Without him taking me out, teaching and encorouging me to fish i wouldn't be having half as much fun as i do today. thanks dad

  13. Earliest memory of fishing......Has to be my old man waking me up at 3am telling me we have to get there early. On down to Henly park in Pirbright(anyone fished there,1980's, love to hear from you)To catch perch. Fantastic! My first ever fish caught on Rod and Line (old hollow fibre wieghed about four hundred wieght, line about 10lb borrowed from my dads sea faring Multiplier)after that it was hard to stop me going. I even bunked off school just to fish. [ 27 March 2002, 03:46 PM: Message edited by: Gary Foster ]

  19. Can anyone recomend a really good all round match reel. I've just spent quite a lot of money to get myself fishing again after a long time away from the ponds and lakes. I have bought a Shimano Catana 3000 (as well as a lot of other tackle)which does the job quite nicely but i would like to use it as a backup and have a decent match reel to use 90% of the time. I'm willing to spend upto about £90
