Terrific report Chris. You are indeed back in business by the sounds of things, very glad to hear it! Cracking Chub, even more special when it's caught trotting.

Fantastic Rusty, well done! Love the pre-baiting device! Never caught a Barbel on the pin, I will have to give it a go soon. N
-
Sounds like a good days fishing! That ST looks really fresh, real bar of silver. Lovely Barbel too! N
-
Sounds like a great opening day Chris! Interesting to hear that you caught 2 Grayling so far down. I would be very surprised if they have been stocked. More likely something to do with the opening of the Lambourn perhaps? Certainly hope they manage to establish themselves.

A great write up as always Chris. Really evoked the magic of the opening of the season. I'm guessing that's a nice sized Chub lurking in the water in your pic?

Terrific write up Rusty and WHAT a Tench!!! A fine reward and a real beauty too. Well done, that is a fish of a lifetime! N

Well done Chris, a great result! The Carp you caught is a fine specimen, exactly the shape and colour you want all Carp to be! Nick

Lovely write up Chris, and some lovely pics - that last one is a beauty. Sounds like a really enjoyable days fishing. Looking forward to catching up with you and Steve on Sat!

Cheers guys! Hadn't noticed the beauty spots - lovely!

Definitely think you have come to the right decision with regards to Newbury AA vs. Wasing. In my opinion Newbury and Thatcham have much nicer waters. The price of the Wasing ticket immediately makes you think that the fishing must be superb but in actual fact it's no different to many other cheaper and more accessible stretches of the Kennet. I think you are mainly paying for the reduced fishing pressure. Looking forward to the 12th!

Another cracking report Rusty, well done for braving the elements! The Trout looks very much like a Sea Trout to me although it could be the flash making it appear silvery? N
-
A lovely write up as usual Chris. Great to have you back. N

Yes well done Chris! Sounds like a very enjoyable day.

Most of the silver fish fish were pretty small - i.e less than 0.5lb. I've never managed to catch any specimen size silver fish from the Thames (with the possible exception of Dace which I've probably caught to around 7oz max) although I'm sure they are there.

Many thanks for the kind comments guys, it was an amazing few days fishing. Alan, I think you're right, a few of the fish had red vent syndrome. Sometimes it is hard to tell because they can get an inflamed vent when they are digging their redds but I think the final fish I caught did have it. Rusty, haven't been to the River Glass but it's not too far from the Alness, the scenery up there really is stunning as you say. If I were you I would try and squeeze in a few days fishing on your next business trip!

Cheers Rusty. The Monnow is a lovely river. I also enjoy trotting for Grayling but I have to say in my opinion it's more enjoyable catching them on the fly, the fight is certainly more exciting.

Nicely done Chris, would like to see a pic of those big Dace! N

Nice fishing Rusty, very glad to see you are catching some decent fish! Also glad to hear you are getting on with the PowerPro, I think it's excellent, different league to fireline and most other braids. Brilliant for feeder fishing too.
No need to promise the next report won't be from Speen, really enjoying your blogs wherever the location! N

Stick at it John, it will all come together and make all those blanks worthwhile (kind of)! N
-
Well done Chris, sounds like a great evenings fishing. Barbel looks in fantastic condition and clearly has been munching! N

Wow, a 3.5lb Crucian is more than something special, that's a fish of a lifetime! You sure it wasn't a Brown Goldfish or anything like that? I think Chris Plumb may be jealous when he reads this after his Crucian campaign! N
-
Great stuff Rusty, been enjoying reading how you got on although you are making me very jealous too! Think the fish you caught yesterday was definitely a Dace. N
-
Stick at it, time spent fishing is never wasted

Thanks Chris, I've been devouring your blog and enjoying every minute! N
