  1. That's the whole point..in the last shot it is turning, I took the shot to show it turns true with no wobbles. Steve...
  2. Hi Budgie, I'm fine thanks...hope you are too. Yes someone will be delighted if it sells here, else it will be sold at higher price elsewhere. AN members get first oppurtunity though. Steve...

  4. Yes just posting on a topic was how I initially started the comps or challenges as they where back then when I asked Elton for a Photo area, I then handed this over to Mr Wiggly as my life had changed. After Mr Wiggly sadly passed away I came back and sorted out an easier way to manage the comps as posting in topics is all that is required for members who enter, for the person collating the results it involved far more work. With the gallery I have currently in use there is little work to be done at all, for example to post the results page is simply copy and paste from the gallery to a post here...it does not get any simpler than that. I know there has been some discussion in the past about themed challenges (and it was rejected I believe) as it was when I first instgated them...there is no doubt to my mind that back then we had more entries than we currently do...it might be something for you all to reconsider for August onwards....challenge yourselves I'll still be popping in and out of here as I'm able to or as our health dictates, I just cannot reliably run the comps any more so wish you all luck with whatever you decide to do. Steve...
  5. June and July will be the last months in its present format, hosted and maintained by myself. My time requirements are rapidly changing and I need to reorganise my own life. At the end of July it will be 18 months of comps and I will leave the gallery active and untouched untill the end of August 2010. If you have photos uploaded on the competition space that you would like to keep I advise you go and grab a copy of it before the end of August. And I remind people that grabbing any photo is not allowed if it is not your own work, you could always ask the photos owner if you can have a copy...most photographers are more than happy to let you have one. On the first of September, the whole gallery will be deleted and will cease to exist, I will also delete all backups of the gallery I hold so that I do not hold anywhere either on my pc or backed up...any photo's that belong to members here. If general opinion here is to continue competitions I am more than willing to provide the current software used in the gallery and the code I have written to facilitate its running and posting to anyone who has the hosting space to do it. You would need FTP access to upload the files and an sql database..if you have these...you will know what they are and that you have them. PM me for this. You may decide to go back to how we first started and just use forum postings for comps, discuss it amongst yourselves. I'm sorry I can no longer run this for you, if I can help further...please shout. Steve...

  8. I suspect its Coniston then...its not Rydal or Grassmere...and it looks too large to be Esthwaite or Elter..I'll stick with Coniston, I've not been there for years ...I find it difficult to get too as I would have to travel past the likes of Buttermere, Crummock, Derwentwater, Thirlmere, Ullswater, Brothers etc etc...so little time...so much to see.. Where about in Cumbria are you? Steve...
  9. It be Windermere.. Steve...
  10. Seems a good price for what it offers but with Photoshop being so wide ranging in its use, I think there would be little to interest the Photographers here as its aimed at "Artworks". Besides, Photoshop is so popular there are literally millions of FREE tutorials online, its impossible to not find free info on anything photoshop related. Steve...

  12. I've had a quick look Fred...everything looks okay to me. Try again mate and let me know if you get any errors. Steve...
  13. Your probably right Rob, my answer was to your quoted words..... In that respect my reply is most definately on topic and valid. Photographing in Public places is most definately a right we have now, and should be kept...and probably will be for the reasons mentioned. The part that I am more concerned with (and everyone else should be) is the "orphaned" photos part. This is where I can see problems arising of photo use and theft thats supported by the government and where unscrupulous sorts will make money of the back of others work..without the original 'togs knowledge....and if if the 'tog does find out and makes a claim..an agency and the goverment will get to line their pockets and the 'tog will get a pittance. Steve...
  14. I'm not a Pro John and I dont earn money from my photos, its more the erosion of Photographers rights that the issue. And your work being allowed under goverment law to be used by anyone...for any purpose including financial gain. So in essence they could use your work to earn money you will not see at all unless you find out and chase it.....This will of course lead to other or further restrictions...no doubt. Den, under present law you could approach where the photo was published and ask for a fee or have it removed. Steve...
  15. John, what they are saying is that if a photo does not have any traceable info with it, then it can be used by anyone..for any purpose which includes commercial use. If you find out one of your photos has been used for advertising you will be able to contact an agency and then providing you can prove the photo is yours then they will chase the photo user for recompense, of course the agency will get their cut of that..as will the government so you would be left with a pittance...providing you know your photo was used in the first place! Now, we can digitally mark photographs in many programmes from irfanview through to Photoshop using IPTC...which is similar to the exif info our camera mark our photos with, we can easily add our name address, phone numbers email and web addresses to help protect our photos from this use. But just as easily as we can add, so it can be removed. I can see in the future that some bad people will harvest photos from the net, use a programme to quickly remove this info...then sell them on..then its down to us to find if our photos have been used to start the reclaim process for the pittance the goverment and agency will leave us. So imagine this scenario John, your going to Australia this year...lets say you take a jaw dropping photo of the Sydney Harbour bridge and you show your friends the shot when your back in Britain. Some bad sort types in Sydney harbour bridge into an image search engine and they find your photo. Its taken, your copyright info and digital signing is removed and its sold to a company in Autralia, on the back of which it doubles a magazines circulation...making that company hundreds of thousands of AU$. You wont know, and you get nothing yet half of Oz have seen your photo...maybe even paid the magazine for a blown up version of it and its hanging on their wall now!! Steve...

  17. Scary stuff, more eroding of photographers rights. http://www.copyrightaction.com/forum/uk-go...n-public?page=1 Steve
  18. And what about North Cumbria? I'll give you a tour you wont regret/forget. For myself, I want to practise/hone my skills with portraits, both posed and candid with people and animals. I also want to photograph some of the very large formal gardens around Cumbria. From my landscape point of view, I want to increase the ammount of panorama shots I have (multi-shot combos) and break into full spherical panos too if I can devote the time to it and actually use the pano head for my tripod that I bought 3 years ago, this will hopefully and eventually lead onto gigapixel 'tography. I have another project in mind but its weather dependant, so willl be spur of the moment. Steve...
