  1. 16lb 4oz But landed on 3.5lb line with a very old float rod right under the tip of the rod !! 16 mins to land..i think WATCH IT BEND...AND BEND SOME MORE !! carp caught in this way are worth quite a few caught with strong rods and buzzers !! this season though...allcyprinids WATCH IT ! my PB will be bettered this season !!
  2. My cousin has a fear of handling fish which annoys him alot. We have to go fishing together most of the time. But now he can unhook the bigger ones in the net on the mat...the smaller the fish generally the more you have to handle it. Barbless hooks are good they come out easier !! My cousin is going to, as suggested get a dead trout and practice....then we will eat it !! If you ever go pike fishing then take someone with you who has experience.....I was spooked when i first caught a pike as i did not know quite how to handle it..but got it sorted.... After the first pike i caught, i got on the Angler's net and read some of the superb articles (of which there many)on how to play, land and unhook pike. (the Leon Roskilly articles are good you can search by author for articles) Now i take pleasure in using that knowledge to see just how hassel free i can land and unhook the pike before releasing it. Also the quicker you get that done the more time you have for photo without distressing the fish. Never be afraid to ask for help 99% of Angler's will be more than gald to help eveen if that means bring their rods out of the water...I know i would and have ! Good luck i'm sure you will crack it !!

  4. Food for thought...i'm full !! Nice one there enjoyed reading people's comments I agree with amny the whole rod and line thing is much more appealing....i think i would use a cheap pole to bait up mainly or as one post said Quote.. "I fished a match on Saturday, which was float only with no poles. Many others and I lost a whole assortment of floats and rigs against the island vegetation that ran down the middle of the pool, as this was where the fish patrol and are caught. If I had been able to fish the pole I would guarantee that I would have lost no tackle and caught far more fish. More importantly we would not have left the bushes opposite looking like Christmas trees! One definite advantage on that front no one likes to leave stuff like that in the enviroment !!`

  10. A food for thought post. I wondered having never used a pole what the pros and cons were and what people's experience is of pole fishing. Cheers

  15. What a great weekend !! I can still hear the birds singing !! A massive thank you to Steve for inviting us down to fish this wonderful place and for all his hospitality. Thanks also to Elton for making it possible and in general for all the hard work on the Angler’s net. Thanks to Lyn and Steve for the BBQ on Saturday…..lovely food ! It was great to put faces to names just a shame that we did not realise about the second BBQ on Sunday. We both thought it was for the arrivals on the Sunday. We had planned to come up towards the end anyway to say hello. But a pike for cousin on the retrieve and some wet feet when we released it meant by the tine I had dried off and walked up everyone had disappeared. Shame, as we did not get to meet everyone…my only regret. Our journey was ok as we left so late……just as well as I had another hour to get back to London !! Congratulations to Mally for his PB and to Singy for his carp captures…..3 in four hours !! Look forward to the pics and article. I am sitting at work now but my mind is still at Wingham. After we tracked Steve down in his bivvy to thank him personally for the weekend one of the last things I saw was a sizeable Tench roll 30 yards out in front of his swim. Very hard to leave such a stunning setting. A very special place…I’m sure you all agree !! Would leap at the chance to meet again at Wingham. John & Steve

  23. the rules are so confusing its about time things were brought into line ie an easy to follow rules...the grey areas are just too open Lets face it there are plenty of places to fish.. if river only clubs feel their time is less than the still water cousins then maybe some heads should get together for some discretionary days at still waters which stay open.... communication is the key and when you read the rules communication and clear cut info it is not ! About the zander well i could not comment i guess really that is an issue that the EA and some experts to look into ! Do they really muller the fishing that much ?
