  1. Sounds much better.....i have always wondered why someone had not invented a net with a block like the one you mention...do you have a link for the net you mention ? I have a similar keenets net and i find that its easiest to wedge the the block against my foot with it resting on my unhooking mat then bend the arms into the other side of the block...if that helps !! good luck

  7. Hi i have been observing carp in a bay area in the city of london ... there are not many anglers that fish the canal there and those that do had no idea that there were carp there...very little is caught of any size and most people i see are piking and there are pike there. the quandry i have is what baits to use...i have tried bread paste and as a floater..with no joy. loads of bread goes in the canal !! I cant beleive that these fish are rig shy or anything like that..(they are never fished for !)..so any suggestions...the banks are all concrete and i reckon the only natural bait that goes in there are flies and insects !! So any ideas ? always appreciated [ 24 April 2002, 12:56 PM: Message edited by: John 'BLOCK' ]

  9. Cheers Gaffer Only one more question...20lb whiplash which as you know i very very thin for its B/S what is the best knot to tie to attach it to the line... the 40lb shock leader will be very thick in comparison how many turn should even up the distribution on the line ? again sorry about all these questions but i am doing a whole day of feature finding this weekend and last time was cut a bit short after the "crack off" Cheers

  11. Hi Gaffer Cheers for the link..my main question is what types of braid to use...i recently had some snap on me.(berkley whiplash 20lb)..and to be honest the line lay did not look to healthy. It was very thin for its breaking strain and i wanted to use the marker as a way of spodding out too. Do you think i should go up in B/S and also diameter of braid ? Just how far can a marker float be cast ? I wondered what you used braid wise ? I have already lost a marker float and don't want to lose another or a spod. Sorry loads of questions

  13. Dear All Wondered what set up people use...B/S of braid used, weight used and do you use a shocklead to stop the float tangling over the line / as a back up for the weight. cheers

  15. Cheers for the input...i get the ideas of the line clips they sound cool may well experiment as i use them usually fishing at range.... my idea which i was not sure of was leaving a little bit of slack line on the running rig so there is some play and then using the tension on the baitrunner as a way of pulling the hook home.....i mainly use ESP (with microbarb)in sizes matched with bait size. Do you think that would work as well ? the running rig would indicate bites upto the point of the slack line being taken up and the fish hitting the baitrunner's tension...if it were a smallish bream then i would still know i had a bite...a carp obviously would tear away in the usual manner !! let me know as i am keen to develop this idea and put it into practice...and any pros or cons you can think of would be geatly appreciated !! Cheers

  17. Anyone used running rigs and find that they miss or lose fish either through not a solid hook hold or that they strike too hard....a bit of a quandry i like the rigs as it lets me know when the bream are on as they don't seem to be able to shift heavy leads that well.I have experimented with a running rig with a bolt rig in the form of a stop bead further up the line usually about a foot or so..this seems to work quite well...i was wondering if any of you out there use running rigs and have any usefull tips...my main concern is the penetration of the hook which is not as good as a bolt rig !!I ahve always wondered how best to strike at runs...is it best to just shut off the baitrunner and let the tension of the line pull the hook home...or is best to actually strike at these runs ?! I have a few theorys on this but i will wait to see everyones advice and experiences of this rige before delving into them

  21. These thing do happen.....i have a tub of maggotts approaching a month old and its warmed up a bit recently...not looking forward to opening that too soon Anyway i have a plan...i've written pandoras box on the tub and do not open.....which by laws of human curiosity means one of my cousins will open it...!! lets hope when they do i am not in the area !!
  22. i always take an unhooking mat whatever i am fishing for... If i do keep fish in a keepnet then i usually take two ie one for perch (keeping them away from the others) and the other for bream silvers,carp...but if a was to land anything i thought too big i would simply put it back... i agree with the guy who said that they are not good for the fish.....also some brands of keepnet are considerably better than others. I very valid point is how you get them out of the net at the end of the day.....if done incorrectly it is this point that the fish suffer...it is always best done carefully and if poss in the cover of water or right next too it !! having said that at the end of most of my fishing trips i could usually rent out the space left in my keepnets !!
