  1. Didn't have any gear cutters at work so I made my own and set out to make the gear for the ratchet Can an admin possibly change the title of this for me please?
  2. Progress has been slow as I've sort of been promoted at work so I'm no longer working on the machining side of things as much but I got a couple of hours in this evening, going to redo the spokes as I'm not 100% happy with them
  3. I've shared the petition around various groups on Facebook and its gained a fair few extra people on it, I'm quite shocked that this would be allowed to happen
  4. My only guess is someone is getting a nice payment under the table! http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/news/all-districts/14338/EA-blow-to-River-Lambourn-campaign.html
  5. Yes, you will hold two separate licenses covering you for up to 4 rods while the 24 hour one is valid
  6. From personal experience I would look for a twin tip rod as they are very versatile, I have a maver twin tip barbel rod that is just at home quivertipping small maggot feeders for roach and Dace as it is fishing bigger feeders and leads for barbel and chub without losing any feel in the fight with smaller fish. With the Avon tip in it is my go to rod for surface fishing for carp too and have landed carp to just under 20lb on it
  7. I shall aim to make it as light as possible, I'm toying with the idea of making a second for someone else to try to get feedback on what could be better etc.
  8. Will weigh what I've got so far on Monday, hadn't thought much about weight but there is still quite a bit of material to come out of the spool. Looking forward to figuring out the release mechanism, tight tolerances and fiddly stuff are right up my street to be honest
  9. That's the one Chris, I have a list as long as my arm of jobs from her indoors for this weekend Managed to get a bit done yesterday and today, all the line lays have been cut and drilled ready to be tapped and both sides of the spool are roughed out and parted off. Hopefully be able to get it up on the mill to start drilling the holes for the line lays and spokes on Monday
  10. I'm over by the recency hotel? Completely forgot about that, didn't end up taking a rod to Ireland or Ukraine but got a few trips to Scotland and Ireland coming up so I may take a rod now it's warmer!
  11. Not in a position right now with space but if they are still available when I am then I would be very intrested Thanks Chris, I will have to take you up on that offer I think when I come to starting the hub just to get everything 100% in my head
  12. Will post some pictures when I do a bit more work on it, at the moment it's just a lump of Ali roughly the size of a centerpin lol! Cheers Steve, the thought has crossed my mind Will have to keep track of the time it takes and what material would cost to see if it's viable, hoping to move next year and one of my requirements will be a garage big enough for a lathe and possibly a mill She's up and down at the moment, got a nasty fever but no spots yet, I know the words to peppa pig off by heart now after it being on repeat for two days so far!
  13. Thanks Chris, the release mechanisms makes a bit more sense in my head now! I've got as far as roughing the general outside and inside diameters of the spool, was going to make the spool solid but I've still got the option at this point to have line lays instead. Got a goal of running a float down the Thames or Kennet with it on the 16th, think I've got my work cut out with family life and a heavy workload to work around! Missed out on a Hardy float rod still with tags for £112 yesterday but got my eye on a couple of normarks that are still in reasonable money
  14. As it's closed season and most of your 'pins will be off the rods for a yearly clean, could you be so kind as to post up some close up pictures of ratchet mechanisms and spool release mechanisms on spoked reels please?
  15. Short session on the kennet Sunday evening, whole day on the Thames or kennet Thursday and Saturday, all out last attempt for a big barbel
  16. Was thinking big maggot feeders would be a good shout on one rod to pick up whatever comes along and boilie on t'other
  17. Cracking chub I'm possibly off to the Thames Thursday depending on conditions, then the kennet next Saturday for a last minute spot of barbel hunting
  18. Will be dropshotting for stillwater perch and may have a tench session or two but mainly I will be exploring and getting to know the stretch on my new club ticket
  19. Why such a heavy test curve?
  20. I read it on my phone and it worked pretty well, not perfect but it wasn't a struggle
  21. I've had very cheap Ron Thompson digitals for 5+ years now and never had a problem with them, they've been dropped in the water, left out on my unhooking mat overnight in rain/frosty conditions and still going strong, weighed my suitcase with them last night and then checked it on our scales at work this morning and they are nigh on perfect
  22. I follow them on instagram and had a read if it when they released it, well written interesting articles and free as well. Well worth a look even if you don't lure fish
  23. In that case I would just keep it simple, cage feed with groundbait/bread mash, sweetcorn/breadflake on the hook or trot sweetcorn/breadflake. Surface fishing comes into its own in warmer weather IMO and not the depths of winter. Garlic spam or normal spam coated in chilli powder is a very good winter bait for chub and barbel (don't know the river so not sure if barbel are present)
  24. What are you aiming to fish for? Naming the river may help get some better responses too
