  1. That's ok if you use a rod with no reel attached
  2. I'd go for some shimano 8010's or 8000gte's . You could pick up a trio for a reasnable price off the bay. If I wanted bigger I'd go for the shimano 10000. I used to have the Daiwa pit reels and there just to monsterous unless as budgie says your casting to the moon. You can fit more than enough line on the others also. These 360246393226 are very good and sort of inbetween the 8000 and the big silly pit reels.
  3. Yeah your right, i've just measured them and there 21 inch long. I thought they where two foot, never mind. I might get some more steel barr and make some longer one's. There's not a lot to them and the PTFE is only cheap on ebay. Hey Brian.....don't we all m8
  4. Here's a couple of pic's of my monkey climbers, the barrs are stainless steel and very strong. Mine are a couple of foot long but even three foot ones wouldn't be bothered by the strongest of winds. The climbers are PTFE and very, very free running with virtually no friction whatsoever. I'm thinkin of getting some smaller diameter PTFE to make some smaller/lighter climbers.
  5. I actually have a set of monkey climbers I stick in the ground and they're far more stable than any bobbin in windy conditions. I suppose the draw back is if I was to fish off a platform. I need to make some type of adaptor to enable me to use them on a platform or hard ground really. I can't see the obsession for using a bobbin when monkey climbers work just as well. I can position mine near the back or front rest or anywhere inbetween if I like....no strings or interference from the wind either.
  6. Yeah your right Brian, they probably won't be as useful in some venues.
  7. First you need to be fishing in a water you know contains tench then look for a good spot/swim to target them. My favourite bait for tench is maggot and sweetcorn either seperate or as a cocktail. The method of fishing you use will depend on the water, depth, weed, snags etc. If I can I prefer to float fish useing 6lb line straight through to a size 12's to 18's hook with a decent float rod. I'd say it's a bit on the cold side for tincas up here but maybe things are different in your area. good luck.....and don't let Mr Dales beat you lol !
  8. I reckon useing back leads will also stop line bites. I might start to use both flying back leads combined with captive back leads to keep the line well and truly pinned down all the way to the hook.
  9. A lot of messing about for a bobbin lol. To be honest surely a set of good monkey climbers would be better....more stable in wind and much less hasstle to make. It'll be interesting to see if your inventions work on the bank....good luck with em !
  10. Mmm...it looks a bit, no a lot dissapointing to me. Those tackle bags arn't exactly cheap, for that kind of money you may as well add on an extra few ripp's and get a korum. The one's i've seen people with from last year where only 8 squid and look much better......very unimpressed with everything they've got up for sale. Thank's for posting it thought Chavender.
  11. I've had no problems with mine, they all work spot on. It's just a case of buying a good working model that's been looked after.
  12. It looks like it's been used to me, I can see marks on the foot showing it's been on a rod.
  13. That's the kind of place that could be full of specimine fish. Obviously it's got choked up with weed but I bet it's full of insect life/ fish food. I'd clear a swim and get a float in there asap....and keep it to yourself.
  14. Total nonsense, there's no way it could survive and definatly no way that it would continue to grow. It seems they talked even more shite back then than they do now lol.
  15. Better with traps, with poison they'll die in a place you can't get to them and stink the place out. Plus if you catch one by it's foot you can torture it to death
  16. Oh Yeah I doubt Steve will tolerate that sort of thing
  17. Funny enough i'm not a lover of the new drennan tench/bream rods or their barbel rods come to that. I have a pair of shimano diaflash rods in 2lb test and in my opinion they're a superiour rod being the ultimate in casting and fishplaying tools.
  18. I think most expensive boxes are aimed at the match pole anglers. If I was you i'd either get a cheap shakespear box with octoplus legs or invest in a decent chair. I prefer a chair without arms as they just seem to get in the way and catch when you get up quickly knocking it over, also obstruct stricking etc. The type of chair also depends on the waters you will be fishing.
  19. There where some polish camping out on a nature reserve several miles from me and they where eating Swans and fish so it's not a new thing. Swans are supposed to be very good to eat and old cook books have recipies for them amongst others like blackbirds, songthrushes, lapwings etc but are now protected as they have been for quite some time. Obviously some people don't give a monkeys about what the polish eat and just take the mick out of people who have seen it. By the way the polish I spoke of vanished pretty sharp when a few locals realised what they where doing.
  20. I'd have thought this on e was more up your street bbamboo... 200452253978
  21. I thought that was what a fist was for
  22. They certainly do Funny that, I got those same Gardner bobbins and thought the chain could do with being longer. To attach extra weight to the bobbin I've tied a short peice of mono to the split ring on the bottom of the bobbin so you can add split shot etc.
  23. I agree if the lines spent it's time to change it but not just as an annual event for the start of a new season. If the lines not been hammerd it's just a pointless exercise whatever the price.
  24. I have a couple of those and there good rods but better for small to madium rivers. If your fishing larger type rivers with more tow then I'd opt for the stepped up 1.5 version.
  25. Just a thought regarding bobbin string/wire etc. I've been looking at sink/ bath plug chain as it's pretty much tangle free, a good weight and suppl'ish and is very cheap at B&Q and other hardwear shops. You can buy it in whatever lengths you want, you cut your own.
