  1. ha ha, that was my first thought.... ditch the veg, use that valuable space with some more beer...! Great result though, nice one!
  2. Sounds like a nice idea, I've only fished it twice and its only 10 mins from me!
  3. How did you get on Motherhen? I'd be interested to know as I'll be heading to Heyford Fisheries soon. Cheers, Stu...
  4. I was out on a smallish lake on Wednesday, sun was shining, I was all set up, anglers on the opposite bank catching the odd fish.... Anyway, I wasnt really having much luck, but I knew there was a tench there as I could see the reeds moving now and again just by the bank, but it just wasnt taking my bait. I had 2 rods out, one quiver and one float.... the float was in the Tench swim but it just wasnt biting. Anyway, I decided to put my quiver in the Tench swim instead (thought a different presentaion of bait etc might entice it) and I moved my float else where... as I cast the float and settled both rods on my rod pod I sat down, only to find that my Quiver was going nuts! It got pulled off the rod pod and neally went in the lake, I just caught the end of it before losing it, the float rod fell off the pod and into the lake, I then kicked the rod pod in the lake whilst trying to grab my quiver..... I could tell the other anglers were laughing but I couldnt bring myself to look, I was too busy controlling the fish! I had the last laugh in the end when I pulled in a 4.5lb Tench, first of the sason.... Lovely!!! :-) However, it was very embarrassing when I then had to get on my hands and knees to pull out my float rod and my rod pod from the lake! Cheers, Stu...
  5. Some nice looking fish! - I dont think I'll have any more time to get out before the close.... :-(
  6. Off topic but, one more post from you Chesters1 and you have hit the magical 25,000 posts! :-)
  7. Morning all on AN, I know many of you have a lot of experience as to what effect sudden climate and weather changes influences fish feeding patterns. Will the oncoming increase in temperature this week (into high teens at points!) affect peoples approach to fishing? Will this cause more species of fish to come on the feed? Do you expect your catch rates to increase? Do you see the possibility of getting a species of fish that you might not expect to get, for example a very early Tench with the warmer weather? Or does the weather need to consistently be warmer for a longer period of time before the feeding patterns change for the fish? As you can tell, I dont really know if the slightly warmer weather will affect the fish, if any of you could offer your knowledge or experience it would be good to hear.... Cheers, Stu...
  8. In my household a tackle shop is one of those places where the wife would prefer to wait outside, or even if she did come into the shop wouldnt say a word as she would not be able to comment on ANYTHING.... these moments are magical and far and few between.... its like our garage, thats very much my domain and I think the wife has been in there a handful of times in 3 years! :-) its a safe haven of calm and tranquility.... much as a tackle shop... :-) Cheers, Stu...
  9. On the section of river I am thinking about, targetting the margins could be the best place and can be some of the deeper areas. I think I will give it a go and let you all know the results! good or bad... :-) thanks for all your help/opinions, all noted and taken on board as always. Cheers, Stu...
  10. BUDGIE, do you have any kind of trace on it, as I'm thinking the pike would bite through the line? the set ups I have seen dont have a trace, but is this risky with Pike in the water? ATS, Cheers for the tips! I might give it a go with some lobs and some worm like lures, see which one works better if it all! Is there specific terminal tackle required for this or can I use any weight as a bomb? Cheers, Stu...
  11. Hi all, I have heard of a few people drop shotting for perch, it seemed an interesting technique that I have not tried before, and I know of a few good places where Perch might be lurking where I could use this. I just wondered if anyone had much experience using this technique for Perch and if the results were as impressive as Ive heard? Cheers, Stu...
  12. Nice one Elton, All local waters to me, and I've spoken to that chap before from Carpin Capers, helpful guy! his shop is my local tackle shop in Northampton. I shall also be at the Wolverton Ouse this weekend, but I'll be lure fishing for both Perch and Pike... Maybe I should change to Chub after reading that!!!! Cheers, Stu...
  13. Thank you to you all who posted on this thread, there are some great links and also some excellent advice! 14. Morning all! Last year I didnt really do much river fishing, and when I did I wasnt too successful and as a result I got frustrated and returned to the still water.... However, I want to expand my fishing techniques and venues and want to give River fishing a more successful attempt this year. I know that a key part of any river fishing is to understand the environement below the water, and watercraft can give you much of this detail if you know what you are looking and what it all means. So my question is, other than first hand information and personal hand on research at the river in question, where could I learn such skill and techniques? Are there any good books/dvd's/websites that would be a good start for me to pick up some very useful tips? I know there are some excellent river anglers on here and no doubt are masters in watercraft too so any help would be very much appreciated Many thanks, Stu...
