  2. Thought some of you would like to know about this. British rivers stripped of fish by East European poachers FEARS that Eastern European poachers are decimating Britain’s freshwater fish stocks have forced conservationists to start a nationwide poster campaign – in five languages. By: Anil Dawar Published: Sat, March 23, 2013 41Comments Fears are mounting that Eastern European poaches are destroying Britain's freshwater fish stocks Fishing in rivers, canals and some lakes is illegal during the close season to allow the fish to breed. But experts say migrants are eating and selling catches, including those pregnant, instead of returning them to the water. The Angling Trust is so concerned about the diminishing numbers of salmon, trout, barbel, pike, bream, carp and eel, it has printed details of the ban in Polish, Romanian, Lithuanian, Slovakian and English. Kent councillor Tony Harwood yesterday said serious damage was being done to eel and trout stocks near his home in Maidstone to satisfy the migrants’ love of smoked fish. Conservationists have launched a nationwide poster campaign in five languages to combat the issue Migrants are eating and selling catches, including those pregnant, instead of returning them to the water Conservationists have warned the number of wild salmon in the River Wye has plummeted by 57 per cent. Now the Angling Trust voluntary bailiff service has launched Operation Clamp Down with the Environment Agency to target illegal angling during the coarse fishing close season. Martin Salter, of the Angling Trust, said: “Fishing for coarse fish between March 15 and June 15 on rivers and some still waters and canals is illegal.” Fishing out of season carries a maximum penalty of £50,000. I meant to show this --OOPS
  3. I use the PowaWalker 3 Wheel Cargo XT Electric Powered Trolleyon which I carry my tackle and chair, which is the Nash Daddy Long Legs. because I have leg / walking problems, and they work perfectly together.
  4. You can feed them, if no veg waste is available, with porridge oats made only with water, no milk, salt, sugar or honey though.
  5. My bins have lids on but I also have a layer of underfelt on top of the waste, I suppose you could use a bit of carpet - without any foam on the back by the way. Also when you put veg waste - NOT ONION- it has enough water content. My bins are constantly in the shade of my shed, outside on concrete, and are renewed every year. The soil is brilliant for the garden , my Dahlia's love it.
  6. Why make a wormery when you have access to any amount of reds?? As for making one that will supply enough worms to use even once a week will need to be much bigger than just one Tank.I use 4 short dustbins. And with the problems of repeating what is happening in the heap will be hard to copy. Of course you could GOOGLE it !!

  8. Simple by the time that species show any indications of a problem the whole chain below it would have collapsed. As for an indicator species WHY do we need one that wasn't there before. And we DID NOT ask for them to be brought back !! Was we asked NO we wasn't. An APEX predator was brought back without thought of what would happen. Why because they look pretty - we never see the bloody things !! Hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on stock fish , GONE ! WHERE ?? Why must we keep being told that we must prove without any doubt that these bloody animals are at fault ! When we did not have the losses before the release of otters and now have losses that are costing thousands of pounds not just to Anglers ,Fisheries and Farmers ( That used to rent rivers to angling clubs that because of massive fish losses they no longer want) with fisheries closing because its to expensive to replace the lost stock. Accept it Otters are at fault !! You prove to me it ain't OTTERS. END OF RANT and I'm not coming back to this thread.
  9. Now that is one offer I could take up, Thanks for the offer Jerry. When I had my boat at the back of Canvey, near the yacht club I used to float fish for them in the Ray Gut near the bridge, good memories !!
  10. http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/21534742 Surely the problem of using an apex predator as an 'indicator species' is that by the time that species show any indications of a problem the whole chain below it has collapsed. The short-sightedness of toy-town conservationists is breathtaking.
  11. In still waters fishing with a semi fixed heavy weight with a slack line laid along the bottom then you could point your rod at the moon as long as the line run across some form of indicator to show that your bait had been taken. In still waters fishing with a free running rig then pointing your rod with a buzzer set up would help with indication due to less friction. We used to call it pointing your rod down your line. With a still water set up using a quiver tip or spring tip or swing tip then the rod would need to be set at an angle to help show bites. The thing to remember is that line travels easier through water along its length than across it, Another thing is that where your spool is makes a difference as well, with the spool at the rearmost point it will give line easier than having the spool forward so the line has to come back towards you before it goes round the bail arm then up your rod.
  12. I fancy fishing for Gurnard /Pollack/ Wrasse/Mullet with small baits /float and small plugs/spinners/ plastics, off rocks would be nice but have trouble with my knees and right arm. Big ask I know but you do not get anywhere without trying. I have my old Abu 484c with a 7000, which I can no longer compress also another beachcaster which is much easier to compress for a 70 yard chuck also several other rods for chucking floats and or bits of rubber etc. Just want to get away from piers and groynes.
