  1. Guru Circle hooks go down to a size 18! Awesome hooks for Grayling
  2. Thanks Phil & other posters, I have bought the Youngs travel rod, I couldn't find any other info on the Greys and with the great reviews from you and others and half the price of the Greys the Youngs rod was the only choice! I'm hoping that a nice 2lb Grayling or a 3lb Crucian will put a healthy bend into this rod. Thanks for your help & guidance. Cheers Ben
  3. Thanks Phil. What do you fish for with your JW Youngs 13ft 5pc? I'm hoping that if the JW Young rod hooked into anything bigger than 5lb it would be a struggle to control it.
  4. Hi All, I am looking at buying a travel rod to put in the boot of the car to cover some light trotting work on the Itchen/Test to go after Grayling and which will also double up to use for float fishing a still water in the summer for Crucian Carp. This is for those "I wish I had a rod in the car" moments, so please don't advise I buy a 2 or 3 piece rod as I already do. There are two rods that I have found that look upto the job, but no reviews. 1. JW Youngs 13ft 5pc 2-4lb line (£60) 2. Greys Prodigy TX Rova 2-6lb line (£120) Links to each rod: 1. http://www.tackle2u.com/rods/float-rods/jw-young-sons-13ft-5-piece-trotter-travel-rod/flypage.tpl.html 2. http://www.tackletradingpost.co.uk/greys-prodigy-tx-12ft-rova-float-rod-4746-p.asp If you have either of these rods, I would be interested to hear: 1. Your thoughts on the rod (Good & Bad) 2. What reel you use with it (Centerpin or Fixed Spool)
  5. Hey Guys & Gals, I have been looking for a way of electronically recording my captures and all of the details that went with the capture, such as the moon phase, air/water temps, bait used, wind direction/strength all of the intel that you know is important to you as a fisherman, but unless you record this information you dont really know how it effects your fishing....until now! My Fishing Journal allows you to input all of the info on your catches (the app is designed to allow for different disciplines (INCLUDING FLY FISHING) of fishing so you can keep your sea shore fishing separate from your river bank fishing) and then get statistical information back. The info you put in is also specific to your fishing, so you have tide heights for sea fishing, but not for lake for example. My next project is to develop my website to allow you to generate more detailed analysis of your data. The app is FREE to start with.

  9. What a shame you couldnt release her back to the ocean to fight another day.
  10. With all this lovely warm weather I would assume that the tench fishing at Wingham is off the scale! Any reports to increase the excitement of this years Wingham fish-in??
  11. Been looking through the reports and now cant stop thinking about those tench! LET ME AT THEM!!! My Pineapple approach last year didnt work at all, although I was in a 'difficult' swim, as Steve said it was hardly ever fished. Steve - did you fish that back eddy as you said you were going to concentrate on it through the 2010 season? Are the tench still coming out favourably to the maggot feeder approach? I have booked the monday off work and the wife is happy to have me away for a few days 'rest'. Hahahaa
  12. Thanks for the great feedback guys, in second place, so need more votes to beat the guy from USA with what I can only call a good photo, as it is not 'fishing' related.
  13. Thanks for all your feedback and votes! Please keep on voting for my picture

  16. It was a great experience last year and a couple of excellent results, including a huge Bream, I hope I can come along again and try to get into those summer tench! My favourite picture from last year, taken at 4:00am from the swim I was fishing at Wingham.
  17. I use 10lb flourocarbon for my hooklength on the snaggy river I fish.
  18. This Sunday at 7am on C4 Catching the Impossible series will start! http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homea...ing/119293.aspx Record - Series repeat for those with Sky+ Ben.
  19. Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying with my thanks, I have been away for a few days and no where near a PC, heaven! So, thank you Steve and your band of helpers for such a wonderful opportunity to fish this amazing lake. I was completely taken by how special this venue is and even after all of the hype before the trip, nothing really prepared me for what lay in store when I was dropped off at my swim, talk about eyes on stalks and lost for words! The fishing as most have already said, was great to start with and then the sun popped out and all went quiet, well you cant have it both ways! I took some pictures during the 3 days, and have chosen a few of the best to share. Thanks again, and I hope to be lucky enough to be there again next year. Ben.
  20. I agree with the others who recommed bait elastic. It is mainly used my sea fishermen to keep soft shell crab on there hooks. I would also up the hook size, a size 12 is very small for such a bait, try an 8. I would also recommend using a long shank hook as you will then have a nice shank to whip your bait elastic to.
  21. Do you also need to borrow long bobbins? This is for the same reason. Yes please.
